Essay Assignment Instructions
Overview
For each paper, you will write a 3–5-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on topics that are relevant to the course content. Each essay must include 5–7 citations in addition to the course textbook and the Bible.
Instructions
- Treat each paper as a research paper rather than an opinion piece.
- Papers must be 3-5 pages in length, using 1” margins and Times New Roman 12 font
- APA formatting must be used. Please refer to Liberty’s APA Reference Guide.
- Five to seven scholarly sources must be used. All sources used in the paper must be properly cited and referenced. This includes:
- In-text citations for all presentations of facts, statistics, information, and examples presented using the author/date (author date, page number) format.
- A Reference List or Bibliography, on a separate page, at the end of the paper is required.
- In addition to using assigned course content, use external scholarly sources. Acceptable sources include peer-reviewed journal articles and online sources with URLS that include .gov, .edu, or .org.
- Note: the integration of biblical material is warmly welcomed but is not to be used in place of course text material or external scholarly source requirements.
- When writing each paper, be sure to integrate material (cited and referenced) from all of the readings assigned for that Module: Week. This demonstrates that you read, understood, and are able to apply the materials. Moreover, it is a graded component for each paper.
- Refer to the grading rubric to ensure that all graded components are included in your paper.
Paper 1: Analyzing Theory and Grand Strategy
Complete the following instructions and note:
- In a single opening paragraph, briefly summarize the author’s argument. The short abstract provided at the beginning of each article already does this, but do not copy and paste it, since it must flow with the overall tenor of your own style and argument.
In the next section of the essay, offer a concise defense of the argument. Why is it at least plausible? There is always something rationally defensible about a peer-reviewed journal article on US foreign policy.
