Before starting field research you and your group will submit a research field proposal update which will include the following material updates to your research.
- Secondary Research: You will perform a literature review (academic) or secondary research report (industry) which gathers together current published knowledge or studies that help to illuminate your research topic. All sources must be cited using APA. A minimum of 20 sources should be referenced. If working with a client who has supplied secondary research or made statements in interviews please cite these as interviews or documents (see APA handbook). The approximate length should be between 8-10 pages double spaced.
- Survey Draft: Please include a survey draft including introduction, 10 questions as they will appear in order, and thank-you script. Specify the question type (multiple choice, true/false/, likert, word association, short answer etc.) followed by the answers as they will appear.
- Secondary Research Draft: This section will be different for everyone depending on the secondary research method you have selected. Similar to the survey section you will submit your field research plan.
- If you are conducting a focus group you will submit a facilitators guide. As well as # of participants and date(s) of your focus group(s).
- If you are doing in-depth interviews you will submit an interview guide and your list of prospective interview subjects (3-5 max) and target interview window.
- If you are doing an experiment you will submit a description of the experiment and the dates the experiment will take place. If you require NDA’s this should be included as well.
- If you are doing ethnographic research you will need to submit a plan on how you will observe your participants and dates for these events.
- If you are doing mystery shopper research you will need to submit a script for various scenarios and tests and the dates of these events.
- Outreach Plan: Specify your outreach plan, explain how you will achieve your sample and sample goals for each method. If planning to send e-mails or post on social media include the scripts or research poster you plan to use. Also specify if participants will be compensated for their time. (Note: the preference is no material gifts of any kind).
Format:
Word document, APA, include title page with all group members listed and the client or topic of research. Report should be double spaced, 12 pt font. No overall page max.
