Description
– Professional Decision Making for Educators and Leadership. Teach Middle School 6th grade Math in an Urban City. Also taught at a charter school for 3 years of 5th grade math. Classroom management is vital in learning and relationships with students. Develop a Professional Development Plan (and corresponding PDP PowerPoint presentation –with title slide and References slide) aligned with NBPTS core propositions and based on data gathered from assignments completed throughout the course including: • Research on factors that affect teaching and learning • Knowing Self and Students • Course Reading, Prompts, and Assignments Your plan may also be based on your teaching practice or assignments completed for other courses and professional development activities. As you follow the NBPTS propositions: • Identify your individual strengths related to that proposition and the specific evidence you used to identify each. • Identify areas for improvement in your individual teaching practice related to that proposition and the specific evidence you used to identify each area for improvement. • Describe specific actions you will take (courses to take, research topics to pursue, other avenues for professional development) to address your individual needs and explain why they are worthwhile to you. Describe the anticipated impact on your competence as a teacher and on student learning. You may include continuing activities you already do as well as new, intended actions. In either case, provide the rationale, describing why it is important and how it impacts students. Additionally, to demonstrate your research into this assignment, provide details for each element of your plan. For example, if you intend to take a course on multiculturalism, research the availability of the course, cost of the course and a timeline for completion. • Follow a narrative lens that should include your dispositions and the ethics components developed earlier in the course. Everything should have ‘an eye’ on your dispositions and how you develop(ed) an understanding and philosophy towards ethics and diversity. You need to be lucid on how you ‘see’ education and how this may affect your practices Summary • Your Professional Development Plan is a culminating activity for this course and should demonstrate depth of understanding and insight • Your PDP PowerPoint assignment will highlight steps or activities taken in implementing new learning (include a title slide and References slide) • These assignments are designed to require description, analysis and reflection. • The paper should be written as a narrative, using elaboration for descriptions, evidence for analysis, and rationale for reflective claims. VSU students: This assignment will be submitted within the course. This assignment must be scored satisfactory (70% overall) for you to receive a grade for this course. Completion of ALL the LiveText assignments include uploading the assignments to your LiveText account. Non-VSU students: You must submit this assignment in the course assignment Dropbox. Additionally, you are required to consult your institution’s advisor for instructions on submitting this assignment to your electronic portfolio.
