Choose an industry sector in Australia (e.g., tourism, agriculture, mining, finance etc.) and explain why climate change does and / or may in the future pose a challenge to that sector .
Assessment details
This reflection is intended to help you identify what you currently understand about climate change, sustainability and business in Australia.
There are three parts to this assignment:
- a) Choose an industry sector in Australia (e.g., tourism, agriculture, mining, finance etc.) and explain why climate change does and / or may in the future pose a challenge to that sector (400 words);
- b) Choose a businessin that sector (= chose a single business within the Australian business sector you wrote about in section a, above). Within that business,identify one activity or operation presented by that business as sustainable (e.g., MSC certified sea food, energy production, waste or carbon reduction programmes). You are to ‘interrogate’ this claim to sustainability: what does this business mean by ‘sustainability’? Does it consider its financial / economic, social, cultural or environmental operating systems? Does this business spell out and justify its claims that the operation or activity is sustainable? Does it mention ‘climate change’? Evaluate what is good, bad, interesting or concerning about this activity or operation and its relationship to sustainability (500 words);
- c) What additional information or material do you think you would need to more fully investigate this issue with your chosen company and business sector (about 300 words)?
A marking guide will be provided
