Assignment 1: Case Study Assignment: Assessment Tools and Diagnostic Tests in Adults and Children
When seeking to identify a patient’s health condition, advanced practice nurses can use a diverse selection of diagnostic tests and assessment tools; however, different factors affect the validity and reliability of the results produced by these tests or tools. Nurses must be aware of these factors in order to select the most appropriate test or tool and to accurately interpret the results.
Not only do these diagnostic tests affect adults, body measurements can provide a general picture of whether a child is receiving adequate nutrition or is at risk for health issues. These data, however, are just one aspect to be considered. Lifestyle, family history, and culture—among other factors—are also relevant. That said, gathering and communicating this information can be a delicate process.

For this Assignment, you will consider the validity and reliability of different assessment tools and diagnostic tests. You will explore issues such as sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values. You will also consider examples of children with various weight issues. You will explore how you could effectively gather information and encourage parents and caregivers to be proactive about their children’s health and weight.
To Prepare

Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider factors that impact the validity and reliability of various assessment tools and diagnostic tests. You also will review examples of pediatric patients and their families as it relates to BMI.
By Day 1 of this week, you will be assigned to one of the following Assignment options by your Instructor: Adult Assessment Tools or Diagnostic Tests (option 1), or Child Health Case (Option 2). Note: Please see the “Course Announcements” section of the classroom for your assignments from your Instructor.
Search the Walden Library and credible sources for resources explaining the tool or test you were assigned. What is its purpose, how is it conducted, and what information does it gather?
Also, as you search the Walden library and credible sources, consider what the literature discusses regarding the validity, reliability, sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, ethical dilemmas, and controversies related to the test or tool.
If you are assigned Assignment Option 2 (Child), consider what health issues and risks may be relevant to the child in the health example.

Based on the risks you identified, consider what further information you would need to gain a full understanding of the child’s health. Think about how you could gather this information in a sensitive fashion.
Consider how you could encourage parents or caregivers to be proactive toward the child’s health.

Just like the fight against cyber crime, measures should be implemented to regulate the operations of these large internet companies. Policies should be passed to hold the companies accountable of their internet activities that display illegalities or negative effects on the ordinary people. Some of the regulation measures that the government can initiate include monitoring closely the contents of various posts from different companies, introducing taxes on the websites of major companies and initiating strict actions against companies found operating illegally (Hilbert, 2016).In conclusion, large internet companies ought to operate within the limits of law and should focus on making the ordinary individual be comfortable and safe from all sorts of exploitation. senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) to create vivid and tangible images in your own

person perspective (as if you were experiencing this scene firsthand).

your city that is connected to your topic. For example, if you are researching services for
blind people, you might interview someone at the National Federation of the Blind.
Explain your assignment and request an interview with a staff member who is considered an
expert in the field. Create 10 to 20 questions related to your thesis statement to ask the
interviewee. For the writing assignment:2
? Create an introduction that includes the interviewee’s background. What is his/ her
name? What is his/her position? How long has your interviewee worked at this
organization, and what is his/her role there? These are just some of the questions
that you can ask to help you build your introductory paragraph.

Locate credible sources for your chosen topic of the research paper project. Find at least five

summarize. The source you choose should be a credible periodical and not merely a random
website. Also keep in mind that your chosen source should be research-based and nonfiction.
For example, you should not summarize a short story for this assignment. Choose a
source such as a journal article, an essay in an anthology, a magazine article, or a newspaper
article. For this option, you might use this as a guideline for crafting your thesis statement: John
Smith’s book The Guiding Light explained (add first paragraph focus), (add second paragraph focus),

Organizations many times contracted out to “guard “ companies.  The technology and mission of the departments were often limited by the amount of resources the organization was willing to make available. . Specifically discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Security Director or Chief Security Officer (CSO). The daily roles and responsibilities of these positions are very different from one industry to the next.  The Security Director in one company might only have over site over traditional services provided by security, while others might include several other service lines.  Large health care  organization that have a CSO , like the Cleveland Clinic ,  often times will include a Chief Security Officer that over sees, Parking services, background checks, ID badging , Key control, Technical security , the Police department, the security services department, VIP protection/ inspection department and global security services.  The size of the organization and the number of employees / contractor working for the organization play an important part in the organization chart. As the CSO, the leader is required and charged with ensuring the safety of the employees, contractors, patients and family members.  In addition to protecting human resources he or she, is responsible with providing protection to the organization infrastructure and its assets.CSO positions have become newer additions to the organizational charts in many industries. In the past, Security Directors were the top positions in this field. However, as safety and security have increase in importance across the board, senior leadership and administrator have seen the value of have Security at the table when discussions are held at the highest level. CSO does typically have a direct line on responsibility and communication with the CEO of the organization. In the past, Security Directors reported to operation Vice- Presidents or the COO, and relied heavily on them to communicate concerns to the CEO.  The change has provided the top security person to communicate directly with the top leader in the organization. Security (and the consideration of security) should always be at the forefront of planning any mission, be it in a military, business, or other situation. Whether the assets of an organization are structural, financial, or its personnel, the protection of those assets is paramount. From a military perspective, security is the most important element to a mission. As an Infantryman I was taught that not only should we always be considering security, but also that a security plan must be emplaced before other elements of the operation can go ahead. While Infantry operations are quite different to those in corporate America, similarities can be drawn. When considering security, risk management principles come into play. This happens in all aspects of our lives, albeit in different levels of importance and potential risk. By assessing risk we can implement the proper security measures to ensure that our organization’s assets are protected. I was reminded of the necessity of conducting risk assessments and always considering security while reading the Hammes piece on working with partner nations. Just recently two soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division were killed in an insider (or “green-on-blue”) attack while working with Afghan forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Hammes (2015) cites certain factors that can lead to potentially dangerous situations for our forces such as endemic corruption, infighting, and poor pay. Meanwhile, the author also seems to be of the mind that the Afghan forces need the assistance and mentoring of US and allied forces. It is situations like this that highlight the need for both security-mindedness and risk assessments if these types of operations are to go ahead in the future.The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is the executive level position that deals with security matters in a corporation. With his or her team of security professionals, the CSO is responsible for the safety and welfare of those in the organization. The ASIS Guideline (2004) states that the CSO should be at the executive level in order to have the “ability to influence business strategy and address matters of internal risk exposure” (p. 4). With the CSO operating at the executive level he or she should be able to relate security matters to the other decision makers in the organization. Without having the CSO at this level potential security measures could be overlooked or disregarded. The ASIS Guideline (2004) goes on to state that the main responsibilities of the CSO include functions such as strategy development, risk assessment, organization preparedness, incident prevention, incident response, and more. While the CSO may not be conducting all of these operations on their own, it is their responsibility to ensure that these functions are carried out properly and that the security operations that are emplaced throughout the organization are sufficient to mitigate risk and also fit into the plans and budget of the organization. The CSO should be able to nest the plans and objectives of the security program into the strategic goals of the organization in an effort to further its success.ReferencesASIS International. (2004). I appreciated the author’s (Rutledge, 2019) explanation of a field that is rather inexplicable. I have chosen ‘Selfies/Positive Psychology’ for the first week’s paper topic because of the role online photographs play in modern society. Rutledge (2019) described how media psychology seeks to answer whether or not technology positively or negatively affects people, no matter what the person’s age. According to Rutledge (2019), media technology, and by association media psychology, have no beginning or end because both fields are in a constant state of flux. I had read reports concerning people who took selfies of everything they did and posted most of them online. I always thought that behavior pattern seemed just a bit vain, and although some empirical studies seem to support that thinking, researching scholarly journals for the Selfies paper has shown a very different trend. This is where the value of media psychology is most pronounced. Disproving outdated research into the effects of technology on human function, behaviors, and thinking provides clarity for all people, not merely psychologists. What are three examples of how media psychology impacts our society?Media is a broad term encompassing multiple technologies (Rutledge, 2019). Psychology is a broad term encompassing multiple theoretical perspectives (Rutledge, 2019). Each of these impacts society in profound ways. Technology changes rapidly. Psychological theorizing does, as well. Media psychology combines these and creates a new field of study into the connections, implications, and effects of technology on society. Nuwer (2019) discovered that few places remain untouched by internet technology globally. She (Nuwer, 2019) believes that signals reach many of the most remote wilderness areas today. Technology has firmly claimed its place in nearly all of society. Helping technology users understand change, holding journalists accountable when using sensationalist writing, and assuring new technology users that much of what they read is often inaccurate or embellished are ways in which media psychology impacts society (Rutledge, 2019). I am old school. I like hard-copy textbooks. It took a significant amount of time to adjust to courses with online only required reading materials. Sometimes I still feel inadequate without a book to hold for quick reference. The psychology of emotion could be affected because if a person is emotionally disturbed, they would not be able to interact in a media system. The media requires people being able to act normally rather than being psychologically Disturbed. In the media system, actors should be able to express feelings when required and when shoting movies. It is also important to be able to pay attention and know when someone supposed to act out as required. Forum post #3We live in an era where the media and technology influence nearly aspect of our lives. We have the world at our finger tips and the ability to learn or do anything almost instantly through the use of technology. As our society has an increased expectations of peoples ability to do things and learn things (because “everyone can watch a YouTube video on How To”). This expectation for people has already increased with the use of media. We see it all the time in the stories of “average Janes saves 30 orphans from burning building, and goes back to get 12 kittens”. These are expectations people learn to compare themselves to because that is was society and the media is showing them. One example I will give about the influence of media and it’s effect on people and psychology has to do with working with children in the foster care system. As a Guardian Ad Litem (Court Appointed Special Advocate) I learn about the most gruesome details of child abuse and neglect cases that lands them in the system. Unfortunately, many of these cases end up in the news. However, the cases that the news reports, never seem to quite match up with the factual case file I have in front of me. The media skews the story to attract more viewers and pull at the emotional heart strings of people. These cases end up entirely misrepresented because media took one fact and ran with it, making up the rest. While my example of the media may seem quite cynical and negative, I do believe that there is some value to the media. There are times when using psychology in media can help tailor advertising to find the right audience. Ultimately this can be a good thing because it helps show new products and things to people who might like them. I think having media psychology does bring value to society. When we are able to study the media and bring the perspective of a psychologist to the table it can help find a balance between a social science and the media. Being able to understand the psychology of people and the reasoning they choose can influence the way that the media goes about their publications. Sometimes people aren’t even aware of the insight they are using with the media. For example, when someone wants to evoke certain emotions in an advertisement, they might use certain colors, and show particular examples, even public figures that are popular at the time. By doing this people are able to more effectively influence others.My question to my classmates this week is: What are ways that you think media psychology might be influencing you and your family? If you are an individual in later adulthood or a caregiver for an older adult, what community resources might be important to you? What social challenges could be resolved through increased community support?
In this week’s Assignment, you evaluate the resources that your local community currently provides for its older members and propose improvements or additions to better meet older adults’ needs. 
To Prepare:

Review the      Learning Resources on sociological aspects of later adulthood.
Using the      Internet and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services link in the      resources, research agencies in your local community (Miami, Florida,      USA) that support the issues and concerns of the older population.
Note the      services provided by these agencies and any gaps you see. Consider what      improvements might be made to existing services as well as opportunities      for new services to be added.

LO 1 Summarize the specific problems faced by older people and the causes of these problems. People 65 and older now make up more than one-tenth of the U.S. population and are the fastest-growing age group in our society. Older people tend to encounter a number of problems in our society: low status, lack of a meaningful role, an emphasis on youth, health problems, inadequate income, in-adequate housing, transportation problems, elder abuse, malnutrition, crime victimization, emotional problems (particularly depression), and concern with circumstances surrounding dying. Most older people depend on the Social Security system as their major source of income, but monthly payments are inadequate.
LO 2 Describe the current services to meet these problems and identify gaps in these services. Programs for older adults include Old Age, Survi-vors, Disability, and Health Insurance; Supplemen-tal Security Income; Medicare; Prescription Drug Assistance for Seniors; Medicaid; food stamps; Adult Protective Services; Meals on Wheels; senior citizen centers; day care centers; nursing homes; as-sisted-living facilities; group homes; and many addi-tional programs. There are a number of gaps in services. Some
older persons reside in substandard nursing homes, some have serious unmet health needs, and some are living in poverty.
LO 3 Understand the emergence of older people as a significant political force in our society. Older people are often politically active, and many have organized to work toward improving their sta-tus. As a result, many new programs have been cre-ated in recent years, and the rate of poverty among this age group has been decreasing in recent decades.
LO 4 Describe a proposal to provide older people with a meaningful, productive social role in our society. In order to provide older people with a produc-tive, meaningful role in our society, they should be encouraged to work (either in paid work or as vol-unteers) as long as they are productive and have an interest in working to maintain their standard of liv-ing. Older people benefit substantially from continu-ing to be productive, and society benefits also from their productivity.
