Healthcare reform is a constantly discussed topic in the U.S. healthcare system. Various influences, including political, societal, and real-time events (think COVID-19) all help to shape the discussion surrounding reform as it relates to the U.S. healthcare system. This link contains a tracker of all pending or introduced reform legislation currently. Among the biggest talking points relating to the healthcare reform discussion over the past decade has been the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and whether it should remain as it is, be improved upon, or be dismantled and a new system put in its place. Review the most current attempt at modifications to the ACA in this link. Do you feel that the ACA should be left alone as it is, be kept in place and improved upon, or be removed completely and a new set of legislation put in its place? Discuss your reasoning for your conclusion, and why or how it can be accomplished.

What did you learn about diversity and inclusion — how does this impact leadership?

Diversity Activity:

For this activity, you will consider your knowledge and experiences on diversity, equity and inclusion. This will be a way for you to understand where you are — right now. Once you have defined this and considered what you know, time will be spent considering other perspectives through a video and personal conversation. This activity is intended to broaden your perspective of diversity, equity and inclusion and underscore the importance of it at the individual level as well as the organizational level. Follow the steps of this assignment in the order they are presented to you. Be intentional in your efforts as a way to not only be successful on this assignment but also as a person of society.

1.
Define diversity – As an international student what does it mean to you and where do you fall on being aware of diversity and engaging an inclusive network? (Be HONEST with yourself about this….)

· Draft your definition in a Word document and save it — you will continue adding to this document and you will submit it at the end.
2.
Watch this short video (Ted Talk)

· Take notes on this video — what is she presenting that is new to you or maybe emphasizes a thought or experience you have already had at this point? You should have notes from this video.

3. What did you learn about diversity and inclusion — how does this impact leadership?
· Look at your definition and personal experiences. Think about what you read in the textbook and what you have learned from this video.
4. Talk to someone about diversity, equity and inclusion.
· Meet with someone in a class or at work. This could also be someone on a team or in a student organization that you don’t know very well. Have a conversation with them and learn more about their experiences, background, interests and thoughts on diversity. This will help you build a stronger understanding for the importance of respecting and appreciating different perspectives. Write down your thoughts on this conversation and what you talked about.

5.  Reflect on your initial definition, the video, your conversation from step 4, and what you read in the textbook and rewrite your definition of diversity. What does it mean to be inclusive? How much has your perspective changed or developed from this activity and the discovery of knowledge from the module?
· You should have the ability to extend your original definition and think about how you view diversity, equity, and inclusion differently. What can you do to have an impact on society or the organization you will work in someday soon?

Submission Instructions:

A 41-year-old obese male patient is diagnosed with congestive heart failure (CHF). He is told to begin a moderate exercise routine with a healthy diet and is prescribed several medications — including a diuretic. Based on your knowledge of the kidney and the disease of CHF, what factors would be important in selecting a specific diuretic? How would you explain to this patient how it works?

Based on your knowledge of the kidney and the disease of CHF, what factors would be important in selecting a specific diuretic? How would you explain to this patient how it works?
If this patient developed a disease that caused the renal blood flow to be diminished, how might this impact the medication he is taking for his congestive heart failure? As his health care provider, how would you change his treatment in this situation?

Describe how the human relationship to nature will be different from what it is at present. Examine how humans will cope differently with the ways that natural phenomena like hurricanes affect lives.

Imagine a future (probably a long time from now) in which human beings have achieved environmental sustainability on a global scale. That means that we as a species have figured out how to maintain a lifestyle that can go on indefinitely. Humans will exist in harmony with their environment, not needing more resources than can naturally be replenished. What would such a world be like? How might we get there from here?
In this final assignment, you will play the part of science-fiction writer, imagining and describing what a sustainable Earth, inhabited by humans, might look like in the distant future. You will need to provide examples throughout to support your descriptions. You should include all the terms that you have researched during Weeks 1 through 4 of this class, underlining each term as you include it. Be sure to expand on your terms and include other concepts that you learned in the course. Provide as detailed a picture as possible of how that future world might function on a day-to-day basis. In your paper, use grammar and spell-checking programs to insure clarity. Proofread carefully prior to submitting your work. Finally, you will submit the document to Waypoint.
Your paper will consist of seven paragraphs using the format below to address the elements with the assumption that environmental sustainability has been achieved:

Paragraph 1:

Describe how the human relationship to nature will be different from what it is at present.
Examine how humans will cope differently with the ways that natural phenomena like hurricanes affect lives.

Paragraph 2:

Describe what Earth’s biodiversity and ecosystems will look like in a sustainable future.
Explain what humans have done differently to enable biodiversity and ecosystems to function sustainably.

Paragraph 3:

Examine how agricultural production will be different in a sustainable future.

Paragraph 4:

Differentiate between how humans will manage water resources (fresh water and ocean) in the sustainable future compared to how it is done now.

Paragraph 5

Examine how humans will meet their energy needs in the future in a way that will enable maintenance of a sustainable, habitable atmosphere and climate.
Indicate the changes that humans have made that are enabling them to maintain a healthy atmosphere and climate for all.

Paragraph 6:

Describe how waste management will be different in a sustainable future.
Indicate the changes have been made to how humans think about and treat what is currently called “waste.”

Paragraph 7:

Summarize some of the major social, economic, political, and ecological choices and tradeoffs that will need to be overcome for this sustainable future to arrive. What are some of the major issues and challenges humans will have to face in order to achieve sustainability on a global scale?
