Identify at least two weaknesses that might get in the way of change.

Overview

You are a business development manager in a life sciences organization based in the Midwest. You report to the vice president (VP) of business development. While the organization has shown constant growth and profitability since its inception in 1999, the owners have decided that it is time to sell. The VP has called on you to join the strategic planning team to assess the organization’s exit strategy and make recommendations to the board of directors.

The proposed exit strategy means that the organization will be acquired by another one, which will be a major transformation for the organization and its employees. In order to support the employees through the upcoming acquisition, the planning team wants to understand how they are likely to respond to organizational change. To that end, they decide to ask employees to complete a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of their skills as they relate to change readiness. As a member of the planning team, you are one of the first people asked to complete a SWOT analysis and evaluate your change readiness.

Prompt

First, reflect on your own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) and how they help you accept or resist change. Then, perform a personal SWOT analysis and record the results in a Word document. Describe how you think this analysis impacts your change readiness skills to manage and lead the organizational change in the course scenario.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  1. Strengths: Identify at least two strengths that support your readiness for change.
    1. Explain how they support your readiness for change.
  2. Weaknesses: Identify at least two weaknesses that might get in the way of change.
    1. Explain how they can impact your response to change.
  3. Opportunities: Identify at least two opportunities you can use to leverage your strengths.
    1. Explain how you can use these opportunities to develop your skills.
  4. Threats: Identify at least two threats that you would like to minimize.
    1. Explain how you can minimize these threats and how this will help you develop your skills.
  5. Change Readiness: Explain what your SWOT analysis reveals regarding your change readiness for the proposed acquisition of the organization in the course scenario.
    1. Are you ready to accept organizational change that is likely to arise from the proposed acquisition?
    2. Are you ready to initiate and lead the change efforts for the organization in the scenario? Why or why not?

Predict an issue that will become problematic for law enforcement over the next 20 years that does not currently exist as a major problem in the area of cyber crime.

The Future of Cybercrime Investigation

Prior to beginning work on this discussion read pages 12-16 of the Cybercrime in the Year 2025 (Links to an external site.) online resource, as well as the Laws Need Updating to Combat Cyber Crime (Links to an external site.), officials testify and The Future of Cybercrime (Links to an external site.) online articles, and view the Marc Goodman: A Vision of Crimes in the Future (Links to an external site.)Ted Talk.

Throughout the course we have examined the truth that cyber crime is the next great vanguard for both law enforcement and military protections in the United States. As with anything new in society, law enforcement, courts, and the nation itself require some time to fully understand the threats posed through new technologies and practices. Not only are state and federal legislatures often slow to respond to new crimes and societal changes, creating effective tools and strategies to effectively combat new crimes often takes years to implement.

Fully explore all of the following elements in your 400 word minimum initial post:

  • Predict an issue that will become problematic for law enforcement over the next 20 years that does not currently exist as a major problem in the area of cyber crime.
  • Create a unique and effective way to investigate the issue identified.
  • Evaluate the challenges (both legal and factual) to the investigation methodology, tool, practice and/or issue identified in your issue.
  • Predict the effectiveness of the new ways to investigate the issue identified.

What is the message that you will consistently communicate to this target audience?
  • Briefly remind us about your hypothetical business (the one you have created for your four assignments) and your target audience.

What is the message that you will consistently communicate to this target audience?  How will you creatively deliver the message?  For example, will you have a celebrity spokesperson, a product demonstration, an emotional appeal, etc?

Where will you use traditional advertising (for examples see page 240 of the e-book), sales promotion (for examples see page 243 of the e-book), events and experiences, and public relations (for examples see pages 246-247 of the e-book) to promote your hypothetical business.  This is your chance to share your knowledge of each one of the four types of promotional strategies.  This should be a 300 – 500-word discussion.

Discuss whether you think the cast of characters in this book, episode, or movie is diverse. How many different diversity factors are shown via the cast? Is it minimally diverse or maximally diverse?

Examining Representations of Diversity
The Media Representations of Diversity final project in this course will have you analyze how media representations of diversity shape our understanding of groups that we may not be familiar with. This assignment will help you begin to narrow down your topic for that assignment and prepare you to do research on your topic of interest.
In your Week 1 Discussion, you reviewed Chimimanda Aidichie’s The Danger of a Single Story TEDTalk and identified some of the “single stories” that you learned from books, TV shows, and movies that you watched as you were growing up. As we discussed, media of various sorts can have a huge impact on how we understand our own identities and those of other people. This is true of the media we consumed as children and that which we consume as adults.
For this assignment, please choose a fiction book, episode of a TV show, or movie that you have viewed recently or that you found particularly memorable. You can love the source, hate it, or be indifferent to it, so long as you know it well enough.
Using at least two of the required resources from Week 1 and Week 2, please do the following in a brief essay:
Provide an introduction that includes the author and title of the fiction book, name of episode and name of TV show, or the title of the movie that you chose.
Provide a brief (1-paragraph, no more than 250 words) summary of the book, episode, or movie.
Discuss whether you think the cast of characters in this book, episode, or movie is diverse. How many different diversity factors are shown via the cast? Is it minimally diverse or maximally diverse?
How intersectional are the characters? In what ways do they have privilege and in what ways do they not have privilege?
Do you “see yourself” in any of the characters? How might this relate to how much you liked or didn’t like the work?
Conclude with your initial thoughts about whether the book, TV episode, or movie you chose provides a positive representation of diversity.
Essay Formatting:
The essay should be 750-1000 words long and double-spaced with 1-inch margins.
Use and cite at least two (2) of the required resources from Week 1 and/or Week 2 of this course. You may use additional scholarly or credible sources.
Use in-text citations in APA (American Psychological Association) style.
Record all source documents cited in a references list at the end of your paper, also in APA format. Follow bibliographic formatting as shown in UMGC’s Online Guide to Writing and Research (https://www.umgc.edu/current-students/learning-resources/writing-center/online-guide-to-writing/index.cfm)
Be sure to include a cover page with your name, the date, and the assignment topic on your paper.
