What kind of research do you want to conduct to learn more about your public health issue?

**please don’t just agree to post but add more to their post that can be discussed ***Classmate 1:Hedda: Imagine you are in an elevator with an important funder that wants to fund your public health research. What kind of research do you want to conduct to learn more about your public health issue? Share your elevator speech for a public health topic that you are passionate about and share why it is so important to address this public health issue. Feel free to use first person in your response. Here is my answer below:I am so pleased that you have expressed interest in funding my research on non-medical exemptions from school immunization requirements. I would like to conduct mixed method research ( that is both qualitative and quantitative research) to take a deep dive into the resurgence of measles in school-aged children. I know that your time is a premium so I wanted to briefly outline how I plan to approach this critical public health issue. This is the Problem: Non-medical exemptions from school immunization requirementsWhy is it important? It is important because of the resurgence of measles which is highly contagious. Non –medical exemptions have been shown to contribute to the the resurgence (Nimblett-Clarke, 2021)Why now? With the issue of vaccine hesitancy and public distrust in vaccines, this may result in an even greater increase of the hesitancy to have school –aged children vaccinated.Who is impacted and who cares? Children and their health as well as the health of their peers, school administrators, public health officials and the wider community would be impacted and would be interested in any recrudescence of communicable diseases which were previously eradicated. The impact of measles on unvaccinated children is devastating. In essence, it is the policy makers who influence the laws that impact children, their families and their schools and with my research in our state, it is important that they see the data supporting the need for vaccination and the experiences of Texas and California. They also need to see the difference in policies in turn influences difference in outcomes.I’d be happy to set up a time to discuss further and answer any questions you may have.References:Han, G., Batra, N., Vallejo, A., Schechter, R., Zipprich, J., & Harriman, K. With about 1 out of 8 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, it is important that we educate men on the risk factors and ensure they come in for early screening. I stress to everyone that prostate cancer although it may be the second leading cause of death in American men, it is one that can be prevented with timely screening. If we were able to catch more of these cases of prostate cancer at an earlier stage, we can work to decrease the mortality by initiating treatment before the cancer spreads. There are three main risk factors for prostate cancer: age, race, and family history. According to the American Cancer Society, 6 out of 10 prostate cancer cases are diagnosed after the age of 65 and it is more likely to develop in non-Hispanic Black men. At the Chicago Prostate Foundation our goal is to further promote public awareness, prevention, detection, and treatment for prostate cancer. I appreciate your interest in our organization and can assure you that your funding will help us expand our current research. We are currently working on a project that takes a closer look at prostate cancer screening and diagnosis amongst union workers including firefighters and policemen. Through our work at the foundation we have found that this subgroup of men have been associated with late diagnosis of prostate cancer with an associated poor prognosis. Our research that is underway focuses on revealing the barriers that keep these men from early screening. Once these are identified we intend to use this information to create a public health program that focuses on increasing education and awareness amongst union workers.References:American Cancer Society. How do these sources compare with information on the chosen topic as discussed in the U.S. History textbook?

IntroductionFor this week’s assignment students will be working with a collection of primary source documents. The link in the Resources section above leads to a Library of Congress collection of primary source documents related to the home front in the United States the Second World War.Examine at least a half-dozen text-based sources; take some time and find sources with a common theme that interests you.Activity InstructionsChoose at least three primary sources with a related theme for an essay that explores some particular aspect of life for Americans on the home front during the Second World War.You are free to select a topic that interests you, but be sure to directly work with the primary source materials.Briefly (in 1-2 sentences each) summarize the primary sources you selected (include the document titles). Be sure to identify the common theme you are exploring, and select a theme that is intellectually significant (for example, superficial themes like “Americans were really patriotic” or “times were really tough back then” do not exhibit much effort – dig deeper). What do each of these primary sources indicate about the chosen topic? In what specific ways do these sources complement each other, and in what specific ways do these sources conflict with each other? How do these sources compare with information on the chosen topic as discussed in the U.S. History textbook?Stronger essays will include specific short quotes as needed to support arguments and develop a cohesive essay, while weaker essays will not utilize the primary sources and will be overly general in coverage of the topic.Stronger essays will also find a narrow topic to cover, while weaker essays will be overly broad in their topics. An example of an overly broad topic would be something like “the American home front,” while an example of a sufficiently narrow topic might be “changes in American industry during the Second World War” or “changes in gender roles during the Second World War.”Include a Reference page at the end (follow APA format to the best of your ability) with URLs for the documents. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C72ISMF_D0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HofnGQwPgqs use them videos https://www.archives.gov/boston/exhibits/homefront https://library.tiffin.edu/home

Does the business setting put customers/clients to be in a situation where ineffective communication could result in a life-threatening situation?

Accessibility means that a space is always, 100% of the time, welcoming to people with disabilities. Accessibility means that “accommodations” are integrated into a space and are not simply made for only one particular individual — but rather created for our society as a whole. However, not all disabilities require the same supports and assistance. Some disabilities are “invisible”. Without interacting with the individual most people would not notice that the person even had a disability. But it isn’t just enough to acknowledge that a need exists or to even just be upset by the fact that a need isn’t being met. Change requires action and action requires purpose and an ultimate goal. So how do we begin to provide support for individuals with specific needs within the Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Communities in particular?Things to consider when formulating your questions:Find out what is needed. And not just the needs of 1 individual but by the majority within the group that that individual represents and identifies with.Find out what is already being provided, or what is already available.Find out if those already existing provisions are actually being used, and how regularly. If provisions are in place and they are not being used, find out why and what steps can be made to change that.If there are no provisions being used in a particular place but there are provisions available in close proximity, find out if they can be shared or borrowed. If there are no provisions being used then develop a request/plan that lays out the exact requirements and include suggestions for how it can be accomplished. Please Choose 1 from EACH Business Category:FOOD/BEVERAGE:Sit Down Restaurant (EX: Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc)Fast Food Restaurant with Drive-thru (EX: McDonald’s, Steak n’ Shake, etc)Cafeteria style fast-casual (EX:Hot Heads, Chipotle, Rise Pies, etc)Cafe (EX: Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc)HOTEL/TRAVEL:Rental Car (EX: Enterprise, Hertz, etc)Hotel (EX: Holiday Inn, Motel 6, etc)Transportation (EX: Greyhound, Amtrak, Airlines, etc)Gas StationEMERGENCY:Ambulance/EMTFire DepartmentPolice DepartmentHospitalDoctor/Medical OfficeRehabilitation FacilitiesPharmacyEDUCATION:UniversityCommunity CollegePublic School SystemTrade SchoolDriving SchoolGOVERNMENT:Post Office/PassportVotingCourtLibraryDepartment of Health & Human ServicesSocial WorkNow that you’ve chosen 5 (1 from each category) Let’s start contemplating what common interactions occur within that business setting.Does their business interaction with customers/clients require face-to-face communication or verbal communication? Does the business setting require customers/clients to hear their name or order being called when it is ready?Does the business setting put customers/clients to be in a situation where ineffective communication could result in a life-threatening situation?THE MAIN FOCUS IS:What specific accommodations are provided for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities that will both visit their business or work within their business?Complete the above questionnaire when contacting businesses. You are welcome to print the document and fill it out directly or complete the information on your own paper/document, as long as all of the same information is included

should the patients give consent to participate in the intensive interventions? Provide justification for your answer

Appalachian Medical is a multidisciplinary medical practice that has embraced thecommunity-of-practice concept of Accountable Care Organizations (ACO). This practice forms amulti-professional committee to identify services in order to improve clinical outcomes, maintainhealth in the population, and increase efficiency. There are over 50 physicians in the group practice, occupying 5 clinics spread over different locations. All five clinics are centrally emerged with aspecially-designed Electronic Health Record (EHR) system capable of presenting patient informationin a relevant, meaningful fashion. The patient population that Appalachian Medical serves is demographically diverse, and Type 2Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a common diagnosis among these patients. This population provides awide opportunity for the practice group to learn more about the disease. Specifically, since thepractice also focuses on disease management of complex chronic conditions, such as T2DM, not only can this high-risk population potentially advance the knowledge about the associations of T2DM, but also provide a target for intensive interventions aimed at lowering glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c)blood levels. However, due to limited financial resources, the committee has to devise a strategy toidentify those patients who are inherently more critical in order to use the resources at a much higher rate in these patients than other T2DM patients. The ultimate goal is to reduce HbA1c levels within 6 months for some patients.Appalachian’s committee concludes that by deploying literature-tested predictive models, a focusedstrategy could be employed to help the team to select patients who require interventions, such as life coaches and other intensive treatments. However, such models require analysis of several patientvariables obtained from the patient EHR, such as age, gender, race, prescription history, physicianvisits, family composition, occupation, benefit coverage, etc.Case Study Questions1. Some of the variables to be analyzed include personal and family factors. Present arguments for including patients and families in the initial team discussions.2. Although the patient information is readily accessible through the EHR system at Appalachian Medical, should the patients give consent to participate in the intensive interventions? Provide justification for your answer, citing relevant Federal regulations.
