For this week’s discussion post I chose to talk about the Cotton Eyed Joe dance.  The cotton eyed joe originated before the Civil War with the slaves.  It soon became a very popular southern square dance.  I personally danced to this song at every party growing up because it is very easy to learn and do.  There are only a few steps in the entire dance that are repeated through the whole song.  It is a fast tempo with lots of kicking and movement of the feet.  This dance uses a lot of space and energy as every time the chorus of the song comes on you move and face a different direction to do the dance.  I think this dance will move on to future generations because it is very fun and easy to dance to! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovq0YTMGk1A

I chose the cupid shuffle because this is a dance I’m very familiar and comfortable with and it goes way back to my elementary school days and even throughout middle school, I remember certain parties we had in the gym where this dance was very popular during those days. Some of the movements used in this dance are space and energy because your moving, turning different directions, kicking, swaying, and all that uses space and energy because you have to memorize this dance on what step you’re taking next. The cupid shuffle came out in 2007 and it originated in Lafayette, Louisiana. I personally used to dance this dance during any party when it came on and so did everyone else because it’s a freestyle solo dance and it’s fun. I think the cupid shuffle can be still danced today because the old is gold and the newer generations may enjoy it and the older generations will always jam to it whenever it comes on.

Additional Guidelines for Writing Essay Three

Below is information that can help you to think about who the essay is supposed to communicate with, how to do the Essay Three Assignment and what the assignment should look like.

Audience and Purpose

Your readers are people who hold standard views about ethnicity, identity, and culture.  Your goal is to move readers from what they already believe before they started reading your paper to what you want them to believe by the end of the paper.

Process

Important Note: Since this is the last paper of the semester, you will not be able to revise your paper for a better grade.

Structure (you must submit an outline with your essay)

Using one of the templates for “Introducing standard views” found on page 23 of They Say/I Say, your paper should also begin with an introduction that 1) describes the problem you see with the standard view and 2) ends with your thesis statement.

The next set of paragraphs should make your own case, supporting your thesis statement, using the moves from They Say, I Say. These paragraphs must have topic sentences and use specific ideas from all your reading.

The second-to-last paragraph is where you will present your naysayer — both explaining the naysayer’s position and your explaining your answer to the objection. See Chapter 7 of They Say. I Say for more on how to use the naysayer.

The paper will then end with a conclusion that makes clear an answer to the question “so what?”

What specific intervention strategies have you tried or plan to use to facilitate the desired changes or goal attainment based on the theories you have chosen?

General Instructions:

1. Use double line spacing and font size 12 for your paper.

2. The length of your paper is expected to be 10-12 pages.

3. Attached is the case study that is going to be needed to write this paper

FINAL PAPER

In this final paper, you are asked to apply all you have learned from the family systems theories in analyzing a case you have handled or are handling. It aims to help you to integrate the theoretical concepts in an actual case. The analyses and discussion of intervention should be drawn from you learning through the assigned reading, lectures, videos, discussions, etc. Address each of the following questions in your paper. You should give background information of the family, the agency setting, and the circumstance under which the family sought help or was referred for service.

1) State clearly and succinctly the presenting problem(s) of this family, that is, what caused them to come in for help or be referred by others for help.

2) Analyze the case and suggest some intervention strategies using concepts from at least two

schools of family therapy you have learned in this course addressing the following aspects:

a) The theoretical formulations of the “causes” of the presenting problem(s) or other problems you have noted in this family.

b) Describe the relational structure or other important dynamics of the family according to the theoretical orientations.

c) How may the flaws of the family dynamics/unmet needs/self-defeating narratives/negative interactional cycles/limited emotional repertoire/misguided attempted solutions/previous generational legacies, etc. relate to the presenting or other problems?

d) Based on the theoretical orientations, what are the treatment goals you have formulated accordingly, in addition to the reduction or eradication of the presenting problem(s)? Set specific and realistic goals as far as possible.

e) What specific intervention strategies have you tried or plan to use to facilitate the desired changes or goal attainment based on the theories you have chosen?

This section is the major bulk of the paper and should constitute at least 5-6 pages.

3) What are some of the strengths of the family that you have observed, which could be mobilized?

4) Address the impact of the ecological contexts or the larger systems on the family. What are some of its resources and limitations for this family?

5) How may diversity issues affect the functioning of the family, if applicable?

6) Do you see issues that warrant advocacy for the family, which otherwise would be a violation of the basic human rights of the client/family and social justice?

7) What are some of the interface issues, including your own background (cultural or otherwise, similar to or different from the family) and counter-transference that you have to face in working with this family? Are there ethical dilemmas you may have to face as well? How have you handled them or plan to do so?

Family Oriented Treatment

You may give the background information of your case by integrating it into your paper as you address the above questions. Or, you can write the case summary first, then analyze it according to the above guiding questions. The APA style of citation is expected if you cite references. Do not give detailed explanation of the concepts, the main point is to apply the concepts in analyzing your case. You can cite references if it is appropriate and helpful in advancing understanding of the point you are making in relation to the case situation. If you have not worked with a case with which you know enough about the family to address the above questions, you should request for a case summary provided by the instructor.

Discuss how the aspects of differentiation and positioning will impact the acceptance of this product by the desired target market.  What must the company consider in terms of its products and the competitor products when entering the market?

Fresh Dog Treats is a newly developed company that is focusing on catering to the premium pet market.  Specifically, the company is creating gourmet/organic grain-free fresh dog treats.  While these treats are similar to some treats offered on the market currently by such companies as FreshPet, one of the biggest differences is the packaging approach.  One of the limitations to FreshPet products is the product must be refrigerated in the store, which limits the number and types of retailers that will adopt the product.  Most stores do not want to put a refrigeration unit in the middle of their pet food aisle.

Fresh Dog uses aseptic packaging that only requires the product to be refrigerated after opening.  This will allow the product to be displayed in the normal pet aisle without the requirement of the refrigeration unit.  As the company progresses forward with this product, there are several marketing issues that have not been resolved.

Your task is to assist them in this decision-making process.  Please respond to the following decision points for the company:

a: Identify for this product a specific target market group they should focus on.  In your description of the target market, you also need to address where you believe this group of individuals would most likely purchase (type of retailer) this type of dog treat. Provide detail around their demographics, geographics and psychographics.

b: After calculating the cost of goods sold, the company has determined that the cost per 8-ounce bag of treats is approximately $2.97.  The company desires a 40 percent contribution margin on each package sold.  They also know that most wholesalers in this industry use a 32% mark-up and many retailers maintain a 25% mark-up as well.  Following this channel and based solely on the calculations, what will be the price that the normal retailer will charge for the product?  Reflecting on the psychological aspects of pricing and specific pricing tactics theories, what would your final price recommendation be?  Support your answer.

c: Design for the company an appropriate promotional campaign for this product based upon your described target market.  Be specific in your discussion.  Be sure to address the influence of the brand will have on this component of the marketing strategy. Discuss your message and the type of sales promotion and/or media you would use.

d: Discuss how the aspects of differentiation and positioning will impact the acceptance of this product by the desired target market.  What must the company consider in terms of its products and the competitor products when entering the market?

e: Create a slogan for the business, less than 20 words, which captures the essence of the brand. Explain your rationale for the slogan. Then show how it should be incorporated within the brand image and integrated marketing communication plan.
