Challenges and Strategies in Translating Humour; A Case Study of Rush Hour 2 movie

Humour forms the essence of human interaction and adds more value to their day-to-day life. Most people have found avenues to obtain humour in their daily lives. Besides, the inventive population has devised ways to capture the humour and convey them over the present-day digital platforms. However, different languages across the world affect the ability to comprehend humour. The creative community came up with a translation concept to convey the humour from one language to another. Nonetheless, the translation cannot carry the original humour aspect brought out in the target language. For instance, Lutviana and Mafulah (2017) claim that most translators lose humour as they transfer meaning from the different cultural terminologies. Therefore, this research intends to discover the challenges and strategies in translating humour using the movie Rush Hour 2 as a case study.

  1. Problem Statement.

Humour loses the humourous effect upon translation from one language to another. According to Kovács (2020), humour has different angles that obtain relevance from wordplay, double meaning, or cultural references. These aspects contain the frameworks upon which most inventive people structure their mood. It implies that most forms of humour are often relevant in their original conditions. However, the evolution of international communities has paved the way for translation to understand different forms of humour pertinent to the different cultures. Therefore, the appropriate research questions for the intended study are listed below.

  • What are the different forms of humour?
  • Which factors influence the framework on which facets of humour are established?
  • What are the challenges in translating humour?
  • What are the strategies involved in humour translation?

  1. Objectives.

The research’s long-term objective is to provide the challenges and strategies in translating Rush Hour 2 subtitles from English to Romanian. However, the sub-objectives include:

  • To outline the strategies used in the translation of humour.
  • To provide the challenges encountered in the process of humour translation.
  • To develop a comprehensive outline of the facets of humour.

  1. Preliminary Literature Review.

A preliminary literature review highlights that available studies emphasise the concept of humour and its different forms (Kovács, 2020). The studies are rich in explanations of the general challenges that arise from the translation of humour. Besides, the challenges are established from the case study of comedy translation from English to Spanish (Harrison, 2012). Thus, the studies have highlighted general strategies employed during humour translation. Therefore, the intended research will outline specific challenges and methods used to translate subtitles in Rush Hour 2 from English to Romanian.

The research methods relevant to the study include several case studies of English subtitles from the movie Rush Hour 2. Thus, the corresponding subtitled version in Romanian and a detailed analysis of the challenges and strategies used by translators will provide sufficient information on the research subject. Finally, the findings will outline the challenges and procedures during the translation of Rush Hour 2 from English into Romanian.

Choose ONE film from below to write about, basing the essay upon vis u al style primarily

Choose ONE film from below to write about, basing the essay upon vis u al style primarily (of course tying back the discussion to plot, narrative structure, etc., overall). But the primary focus this time is upon film as a visual narrative (everything from shots to lighting, setting and set design, even props) – everything that makes up a visual composition. 1. Blad e Ru n n e r (dir. Ridley Scott, 1982) The folder of stills on Blackboard gives a number of examples of the famous set design for Blade Runner; it’s the star of the picture in the establishing sequence and at a number of other points in the film. But we also have a “future noir” picture, a detective drama with Blade Runner Rick Deckard in pursuit of replicants led by the charismatic Roy Batty (played by Dutch actor Rutger Hauer). In these elaborate, 1930s-1940s retro L.A. style sets are human figures (a number of whom are, or may be replicants). In science fiction, there is always the danger of style over substance, but Blade Runner has a number of performances that seem to return us to the human narrative (and its central question of what it means to be human). Nonetheless, it is a visually stunning film. 2. Th e Ne w World (dir. Terrence Malick, 2005) As a period piece, a historical (but semi-fictionalized) drama-romance, Malick’s The New World, like his other films, is a poetically visual narrative, as if paintings had come to life. But at its heart is a very human, even tragically human, story. The dialogue is relatively spare, a good portion of it conveyed in voiceovers; so we are left, by and large, with visual storytelling. 3. Th e e b (dir. Naji Abu Nowar, 2014) The desert of Arabia clearly dominates essentially every composition of Theeb, just as it shapes the narrative and the characters’s lives. Its natural colors could produce a fairly drab, monochromatic look: but we feel in the film all the precious signs of life in the desert. And of death. 4. La b e lle e t la b ê te (dir. Jean Cocteau, 1946) And here, in a fairy tale come to life, the visual aspect has the unreal meet the real. This film may also be described as poetic in its visuals, a sort of “poetic realism” that requires a suspension

What Is Religion’s Role in Social Change and Same-Sex Marriage?

Discussion : Digging Deeper: What Is Religion’s Role in Social Change and Same-Sex Marriage?

Description

Please follow instructions for the order and read both attached document for better understand. Make sure to use your own words. Overview: Sociologists study religion to understand the relationship between religion and society, and the role it plays in people’s lives. The sociological study of religion is focused on macro-level issues related to how religions impact social stratification systems or affect societal change, and micro-level issues related to how a person’s religious beliefs and practices shape individual and group life. Sociologists are interested in the social organization of religion, as opposed to theologians and philosophers who evaluate the validity of the beliefs. Three early sociologists, Marx, Durkheim, and Weber, contributed key ideas to our understanding of the role and function of religion in society. You will use their perspectives to respond to this week’s discussion question examining the relationship between religion and recent social change in society. Instructions: In addition to the information on the Exploration page, check out Pew’s research on gay marriage and homosexuality. Then, in your post (minimum of 250 words) respond to the following questions: What were the key religious arguments for and against same-sex marriage? Which groups strongly supported gay rights and which groups opposed them? What factors led to the fundamentalist revival in the U.S.? Did this resurgence impact the debate over same-sex marriage? Using relevant ideas from Marx, explain how religion may have worked to prohibit same-sex marriage and equal rights for homosexuals. Touch on how the views of Marx are similar to and different from Durkheim and Weber when examining religion and social change. Support your ideas with information from at least two sources found in your readings and exploration materials, plus one outside resource. Cite your sources in APA Style.
