Decriptive paragraph and summary exercise

You are required to submit the FINAL copy of this assignment, but you may first submit an
optional DRAFT. This will allow you to receive qualitative feedback that can inform your
revision. You should always avoid focusing solely on the grader’s DRAFT feedback; use the
feedback as a supplement to the course lessons and your own revision ideas. Always expect to
revise beyond what the DRAFT grader specifically notes.
Choose one photo from the Time Magazine website at this address:
http://lightbox.time.com/?iid=lf|tn
You will choose a photograph from the Time site and write a descriptive paragraph. Use all five
senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) to create vivid and tangible images in your own
paragraph. Be sure to address each sense in its physical form and avoid metaphors. See below:
Sight: “The green pine trees dotted the horizon.”
Hearing: “The last-minute buzzer echoed through the stadium.”
Smell: “The sweet aroma of jasmine filled my nose as I jogged past the flower garden.”
Taste: “The cookies taste sweet with a hint of salt.”
Touch: “The sand felt cold, wet, and gritty beneath my feet.”
A topic sentence for this assignment should introduce the main point or points in the
paragraph using key terms. In this case, you should touch upon the five senses because they are
the focus of this paragraph. For example, “Attending the basketball game opened up my
senses to vibrant lights, loud sounds, salty aromas, mouth-watering treats, and stinging
sensations from so much clapping.”
Finally, add directional transitions (above the fountain, next to the doorway, to the left of the
trees, etc.) to show the location and relationship of objects in the photo. This will help the
reader paint a picture by placing objects in the scene without seeing the image.
You can write this from a third person perspective (as a viewer from the outside) or from a first
person perspective (as if you were experiencing this scene firsthand).
Please copy-and-paste the photo image at the top of your paragraph (see sample assignment).
When you submit your paragraph for review, include the name of the photograph (if available)
and the exact URL where you accessed your chosen photograph. For this shorter assignment,
you need not include this information in a formal MLA Works Cited list. You may simply put the
photo title and URL at the bottom of the essay.

The secound assignment is Summary Exercise
For this assignment only, there is no draft option. You should simply submit your required final
copy whenever you are ready.1 This assignment is designed to inform your larger research
project.
Option #1: Investigate and Interview
You have already chosen a topic and created a working thesis statement for your research
paper topic. Find a non-profit organization (e.g., one that provides literacy instruction, a
support group for cancer patients, a shelter that provides refuge for battered women) in
your city that is connected to your topic. For example, if you are researching services for
blind people, you might interview someone at the National Federation of the Blind.
Explain your assignment and request an interview with a staff member who is considered an
expert in the field. Create 10 to 20 questions related to your thesis statement to ask the
interviewee. For the writing assignment:2
? Create an introduction that includes the interviewee’s background. What is his/ her
name? What is his/her position? How long has your interviewee worked at this
organization, and what is his/her role there? These are just some of the questions
that you can ask to help you build your introductory paragraph.
? Summarize the interviewee’s responses in approximately three cohesive body
paragraphs.
? Finish with a concluding paragraph that explains how this interview helped you better
understand your chosen research paper topic.
Option #2: Getting What you Need from Periodicals
Locate credible sources for your chosen topic of the research paper project. Find at least five
relevant sources from periodicals.3 From the sources that you find, choose one to
summarize. The source you choose should be a credible periodical and not merely a random
website. Also keep in mind that your chosen source should be research-based and nonfiction.
For example, you should not summarize a short story for this assignment. Choose a
source such as a journal article, an essay in an anthology, a magazine article, or a newspaper
article. For this option, you might use this as a guideline for crafting your thesis statement: John
Smith’s book The Guiding Light explained (add first paragraph focus), (add second paragraph focus),
and (add third paragraph focus).
1 To successfully complete this course, you must complete this assignment according to the guidelines presented
here. It is not acceptable to omit this assignment.
2 Note that you should be conducting this interview yourself. You should not be summarizing an interview that
someone else conducted.
3 Please do not use basic informative website such as ehow or Wikipedia. The source you choose will ideally be an
academic or research-based article

Company Using the Internet to Access Their Subjective Data Discussion

Discussion1. Given the almost unfettered control and power of large internet companies (such as Google, Facebook and Microsoft) in our daily lives, what measures should governments around the world implement to ensure that ordinary individuals are not exploited by these companies? Reply:-Data is everything in this modern society and the impact is very huge as it is one of the major sources of income for most businesses. Many top companies are running businesses and generating a revenue by using the data as it drives the businesses. As we understand the value of it, data of any individual must be safeguarded from being exploited by any entity. There are many ways that our personal data is being exploited by the large size entities as many others.Data provisioning is a form of exploitation. It is because organization use data to generate value without giving the people with reasonable compensation. It is the oddly sympathetic truth of the supervised and vigilance society we posses that there are unknown companies out there that are collecting our data for mysterious intentions. However, organizations and governments also investigate the data streams that belongs to us by using more creative ways and track us wherever we go and whatever we do. There are several innovative ways invented and they are growing in the market to collect data streams of our lives and these methods are potentially increasing. These kinds of data exploitation methods are connected by the common obligation say a data imperative which runs many business entities and governments. This imperative appeals for the abstraction of all data, from various sources in every way that is possible. We are all trapped into the big monstrous web by posing a great threat to individual identity by losing our information to big corporate entities. However, the only way out of this is that for us to face the reality of being monitored of our every moment in this life. We need to rethink setup our accounts on any free service providers as they are the main suspects.Reply 2:Big internet companies have got a major influence on the lives of ordinary individuals based on their economic power and the ability to reach as many individuals as possible. Despite many of these being legitimate companies that are globally recognized, they are also leading in exploiting ordinary individuals in a number of ways (God shalk, 2018). For instance, search companies like Google display their ads on pages that post stolen content and other illegal activities. Though Google is a legitimate company, the act of sharing a revenue stream with the illegal website providers is a crime.Governments around the world should implement measures to curb the exploitation of ordinary citizens by these large internet firms. Just like the fight against cyber crime, measures should be implemented to regulate the operations of these large internet companies. Policies should be passed to hold the companies accountable of their internet activities that display illegalities or negative effects on the ordinary people. Some of the regulation measures that the government can initiate include monitoring closely the contents of various posts from different companies, introducing taxes on the websites of major companies and initiating strict actions against companies found operating illegally (Hilbert, 2016).In conclusion, large internet companies ought to operate within the limits of law and should focus on making the ordinary individual be comfortable and safe from all sorts of exploitation. Keeping the internet safe and free from exploitation is also a part they need to play. It is therefore important for these companies to be more focused on the legality of their operations in relation to the ordinary citizens’ safety.

Organization Security Responses

Discussion Question: Discuss the pros and cons of security’s role of security in an organization (any type of organization will do). Based on the following key discussion points:How security should fit into the scope of a mission, be it war-fighting, profit making, etc? Security in the civilian world has undergone many changes in the years since 9/11. Prior to 9/11  many organization looked at Security Officers and  as necessary “expense” evil in the operation and often times  the departments were underfunded with low paying  jobs. Organizations many times contracted out to “guard “ companies.  The technology and mission of the departments were often limited by the amount of resources the organization was willing to make available. . Specifically discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Security Director or Chief Security Officer (CSO). The daily roles and responsibilities of these positions are very different from one industry to the next.  The Security Director in one company might only have over site over traditional services provided by security, while others might include several other service lines.  Large health care  organization that have a CSO , like the Cleveland Clinic ,  often times will include a Chief Security Officer that over sees, Parking services, background checks, ID badging , Key control, Technical security , the Police department, the security services department, VIP protection/ inspection department and global security services.  The size of the organization and the number of employees / contractor working for the organization play an important part in the organization chart. As the CSO, the leader is required and charged with ensuring the safety of the employees, contractors, patients and family members.  In addition to protecting human resources he or she, is responsible with providing protection to the organization infrastructure and its assets.CSO positions have become newer additions to the organizational charts in many industries. In the past, Security Directors were the top positions in this field. However, as safety and security have increase in importance across the board, senior leadership and administrator have seen the value of have Security at the table when discussions are held at the highest level. CSO does typically have a direct line on responsibility and communication with the CEO of the organization. In the past, Security Directors reported to operation Vice- Presidents or the COO, and relied heavily on them to communicate concerns to the CEO.  The change has provided the top security person to communicate directly with the top leader in the organization. Security (and the consideration of security) should always be at the forefront of planning any mission, be it in a military, business, or other situation. Whether the assets of an organization are structural, financial, or its personnel, the protection of those assets is paramount. From a military perspective, security is the most important element to a mission. As an Infantryman I was taught that not only should we always be considering security, but also that a security plan must be emplaced before other elements of the operation can go ahead. While Infantry operations are quite different to those in corporate America, similarities can be drawn. When considering security, risk management principles come into play. This happens in all aspects of our lives, albeit in different levels of importance and potential risk. By assessing risk we can implement the proper security measures to ensure that our organization’s assets are protected. I was reminded of the necessity of conducting risk assessments and always considering security while reading the Hammes piece on working with partner nations. Just recently two soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division were killed in an insider (or “green-on-blue”) attack while working with Afghan forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Hammes (2015) cites certain factors that can lead to potentially dangerous situations for our forces such as endemic corruption, infighting, and poor pay. Meanwhile, the author also seems to be of the mind that the Afghan forces need the assistance and mentoring of US and allied forces. It is situations like this that highlight the need for both security-mindedness and risk assessments if these types of operations are to go ahead in the future. The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is the executive level position that deals with security matters in a corporation. With his or her team of security professionals, the CSO is responsible for the safety and welfare of those in the organization. The ASIS Guideline (2004) states that the CSO should be at the executive level in order to have the “ability to influence business strategy and address matters of internal risk exposure” (p. 4). With the CSO operating at the executive level he or she should be able to relate security matters to the other decision makers in the organization. Without having the CSO at this level potential security measures could be overlooked or disregarded. The ASIS Guideline (2004) goes on to state that the main responsibilities of the CSO include functions such as strategy development, risk assessment, organization preparedness, incident prevention, incident response, and more. While the CSO may not be conducting all of these operations on their own, it is their responsibility to ensure that these functions are carried out properly and that the security operations that are emplaced throughout the organization are sufficient to mitigate risk and also fit into the plans and budget of the organization. The CSO should be able to nest the plans and objectives of the security program into the strategic goals of the organization in an effort to further its success.ReferencesASIS International. (2004). The Understanding of Media Psychology Discussion Responses

In need of a response/discussion to each of the following forum posts. Agreement/disagreement/and/or continuing the discussion.Original forum discussion/topic post is as follows:This week we are learning about Media Psychology. Dr. Pamela Rutledge describes Media Psychology as “understanding the interaction of people and media technologies in the context of the current culture.”In this forum, discuss the following:Forum post #1What is the value of media psychology in our society? After reading Rutledge (2019) I am beginning to understand the concept of media psychology. I appreciated the author’s (Rutledge, 2019) explanation of a field that is rather inexplicable. I have chosen ‘Selfies/Positive Psychology’ for the first week’s paper topic because of the role online photographs play in modern society. Rutledge (2019) described how media psychology seeks to answer whether or not technology positively or negatively affects people, no matter what the person’s age. According to Rutledge (2019), media technology, and by association media psychology, have no beginning or end because both fields are in a constant state of flux. I had read reports concerning people who took selfies of everything they did and posted most of them online. I always thought that behavior pattern seemed just a bit vain, and although some empirical studies seem to support that thinking, researching scholarly journals for the Selfies paper has shown a very different trend. This is where the value of media psychology is most pronounced. Disproving outdated research into the effects of technology on human function, behaviors, and thinking provides clarity for all people, not merely psychologists. What are three examples of how media psychology impacts our society?Media is a broad term encompassing multiple technologies (Rutledge, 2019). Psychology is a broad term encompassing multiple theoretical perspectives (Rutledge, 2019). Each of these impacts society in profound ways. Technology changes rapidly. Psychological theorizing does, as well. Media psychology combines these and creates a new field of study into the connections, implications, and effects of technology on society. Nuwer (2019) discovered that few places remain untouched by internet technology globally. She (Nuwer, 2019) believes that signals reach many of the most remote wilderness areas today. Technology has firmly claimed its place in nearly all of society. Helping technology users understand change, holding journalists accountable when using sensationalist writing, and assuring new technology users that much of what they read is often inaccurate or embellished are ways in which media psychology impacts society (Rutledge, 2019). I am old school. I like hard-copy textbooks. It took a significant amount of time to adjust to courses with online only required reading materials. Sometimes I still feel inadequate without a book to hold for quick reference. Media psychology will help others like me make that adjustment, too.Forum post #2 Media psychology deals with comprehending the interactions between individuals, groups, society and Technology in such way that they would make senses out of them. Media psychology refers to a psychology that focuses on media and human behavior as a whole. For example: nowadays scientists are building up technologies that are really magically exciting to use. The new Computing system and the new technology have been taking over practical works and this is something outstanding. Media and human behavior is Interactive; either that it could relate relatively to each other because human builds technology and human uses technology. Media psychology impacts the psychology of emotion, expression and attention. The psychology of emotion could be affected because if a person is emotionally disturbed, they would not be able to interact in a media system. The media requires people being able to act normally rather than being psychologically Disturbed. In the media system, actors should be able to express feelings when required and when shoting movies. It is also important to be able to pay attention and know when someone supposed to act out as required. Forum post #3We live in an era where the media and technology influence nearly aspect of our lives. We have the world at our finger tips and the ability to learn or do anything almost instantly through the use of technology. As our society has an increased expectations of peoples ability to do things and learn things (because “everyone can watch a YouTube video on How To”). This expectation for people has already increased with the use of media. We see it all the time in the stories of “average Janes saves 30 orphans from burning building, and goes back to get 12 kittens”. These are expectations people learn to compare themselves to because that is was society and the media is showing them. One example I will give about the influence of media and it’s effect on people and psychology has to do with working with children in the foster care system. As a Guardian Ad Litem (Court Appointed Special Advocate) I learn about the most gruesome details of child abuse and neglect cases that lands them in the system. Unfortunately, many of these cases end up in the news. However, the cases that the news reports, never seem to quite match up with the factual case file I have in front of me. The media skews the story to attract more viewers and pull at the emotional heart strings of people. These cases end up entirely misrepresented because media took one fact and ran with it, making up the rest. While my example of the media may seem quite cynical and negative, I do believe that there is some value to the media. There are times when using psychology in media can help tailor advertising to find the right audience. Ultimately this can be a good thing because it helps show new products and things to people who might like them. I think having media psychology does bring value to society. When we are able to study the media and bring the perspective of a psychologist to the table it can help find a balance between a social science and the media. Being able to understand the psychology of people and the reasoning they choose can influence the way that the media goes about their publications. Sometimes people aren’t even aware of the insight they are using with the media. For example, when someone wants to evoke certain emotions in an advertisement, they might use certain colors, and show particular examples, even public figures that are popular at the time. By doing this people are able to more effectively influence others. My question to my classmates this week is: What are ways that you think media psychology might be influencing you and your family? How might this be different in another culture?I look forward to reading everyone’s post this week and getting started on another great semester!
