In what ways could you contribute to building a climate of innovation in your organization?

“The success of an intervention depends on the interior condition of the Intervenor.” – William O’Brien, former CEO of Hanover Insurance Company (as cited in Giacomassi, 2017).

While you have spent time this week considering innovation and innovation barriers in your discussion posts, you have the opportunity to go deeper as you reflect on your personal experience and attitudes towards innovation.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

· Reflect on a personal time/process of innovation.

· Self-reflect on impact of values and virtues on investment in others.

· Reflect on personal preparation for leading change.

Background Information

Your preparation for this discussion forum begins by reviewing all of the material assigned in Workshop One, including  Assignment 1.3 (new tab)  – Scharmer’s Theory U.

Most organizational leaders agree that innovation is crucial to organizational success, yet not all leaders know how to encourage innovation within their organizations. Self-reflection on your inner life will help prepare you to lead others through this process.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. Review all of the materials assigned in Workshop One, including book chapters, articles, and videos (these are the same resources used for this week’s Workshop discussion forum).

3. Write a two-page reflection paper (500-600 words double-spaced in a Word document), addressing the following reflection prompts:

a. Reflect on innovation, innovation barriers, and Scharmer’s Theory U process and write a one-page reflection of a time you engaged in an innovation process.

b. Some scholars describe Scharmer’s concept of “presencing” as a transformative journey. Have you ever engaged in such transformative work? What happened? If you have not engaged in such work, how might you imagine yourself doing so?

c. How does your organization (past or present) prioritize (or not) innovation and change?

d. In what ways could you contribute to building a climate of innovation in your organization?

e. What are some potential benefits for your organization to prioritize innovation?

f. How do you foster innovation and change in others?

g. As a leader, are you prepared in your inner life to lead change? Why or why not?

h. What is the most significant insight on innovation you learned from the discussion, book, articles, and/or video this week? Discuss why did you found it significant. How might you apply it in the future?

4. Inasmuch as this is a reflection paper, first-person voice is acceptable. No additional sources are required, as well.

5. Feel free to utilize Academic Writer (APA formatting resource) and Grammarly (grammar and plagiarism check) on the  IWU Resources (new tab)  page.

a. All papers are to be written in accordance with  APA Guidelines (7th ed) (new tab)  including format guidelines. Papers must be logical, well organized, grammatically correct, and have correct spelling and sentence structure.  Write in complete paragraphs of at least three sentences in length.
