Let’s begin with what it is not.
-It is not merely to demonstrate knowledge of course material (we have exams for that).
-Nor is it simply to summarize, or reflect on, course material. (We do this during class exercises.)
What it is Rather, it is to present and defend your own philosophical argument in a way that engages that material — along with other readings — and advances the discussion.
The idea here is that there is some conversation going in the Ethics & Value Theory literature. Your job is to get involved and move that discussion forward with a sustained philosophical argument, after having undertaken some research.
