This week discusses the challenges facing healthcare in the 21st century. It has been said that to understand where we are and where we should be heading that one must have a clear understanding of what has gone before. In this module you will explore the history of health care challenges, including the significant sociopolitical forces and policies, progression of leadership theories, and organizational development. As you explore these forces begin to conceptualize how each has contributed to the current state of affairs and what might be needed to overcome or move past real and perceived deficiencies. Furthermore, the focused learning will include the role of nursing leadership in both past and future challenges in healthcare. Objectives 1. The student will be able to assimilate the challenges in healthcare into nursing leadership decisions. 2. The student will be able to synthesize past and future challenges into the nursing leadership role. 3.
