Communications Nontraditional Students Paper

For the semester’s final paper, pick and write a research supported essay on one of the following topics as the heading, related to nontraditional and/or developmental students. You are reminded that a nontraditional student is NOT necessarily a developmental student, although some might need developmental studies, which would make them developmental students. Your paper must have at least 5 citations of recent (less than 10 years – 2013 or later) studies. The paper should be minimum 4 pages to maximum 6 pages, not counting the cover and reference pages. It should be double spaced, times new roman – 12 point font in APA format.Pick one topic below1. Effects of nontraditional students: Discuss 3 effects that have been experienced by the invasion of nontraditional students in Colleges/Universities. In your discussion, detail what characteristics of the students cause the individual effects.2. Adult Students: Select at least two (2) researchers who have written on adult learning or adult development. For each, describe his or her view of adult learning. Next, point out similarities and differences that exist between their work. Last, discuss what contribution(s) each has made to our general understanding of adult learning.3. Nontraditional Students Support: Assume you are the director of student services. Your college/university has an influx of new nontraditional students’ enrollment. The president wants you to provide a detailed report of how the college will support the barriers and/or limitations students experience. Pick 3 barriers/limitations and discuss how you intend to deal with them. 4. Self-efficacy and self-regulation: One of the greatest challenges for developmental educators is dealing with students’ low self-efficacy for academic performance. During this essay, do the following: 1) Define self-efficacy in a developmental education context, 2) Explain why so many students in developmental education classes have low self-efficacy, 3) Describe a series (three or more) of strategies that developmental educators and/or developmental education programs can implement to overcome students’ low self-efficacy, and 4) For each strategy described include an explanation as to why the particular strategy would improve student self-efficacy for academic performance.5. Nontraditional students accommodation: Assuming you are the director of student services, write about 3 strategies that your college/university has implemented for the nontraditional student population.
