It is important for ELL teachers to understand assessment issues as they affect the learning of ELLs from diverse backgrounds and at varying English proficiency levels. They also need to understand the clear relationship between assessment and instruction. The pre-service teacher will assess an English language learner’s oral and written performance using the Language Assessment Scale (LAS) placement test. They will then analyze the student’s results and make recommendations for instruction

They will then analyze the student’s results and make recommendations for instruction.
Description: The pre-service teacher will administer The LAS placement test, score, and interpret the data. Recommendations for instruction as well as remediation activities will be proposed.
Directions:
1. Introduce your task by explaining the implications of the Florida Consent Decree on assessment of ELLs. Be sure to discuss the purpose of different types of assessment and assessment issues as they relate to ELLs, including reliability, validity, limitations, and accommodations for students.
2. Introduce the LAS test and discuss its similarity to the WIDA Access test used in Florida.
3. Select one  ELLs in the 6th grade. One should be a fairly fluent English speaker (Levels 3, 4, or 5). The other ELL should be in the early stages of learning English (Levels 1 or 2).
4. Administer the LAS Placement Test to both students.
5. Score the results, analyze, and discuss the data. Describe the students’ strengths, weaknesses, and identified gaps in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
6. Address implications for instruction. Use the data from your assessments to plan for instruction (language objectives) by English language skill – listening, speaking, reading, and writing for each student. Align each objective to the NGSSS and current Florida Standards.
7. Propose other types of assessments that can be used subsequently to monitor student progress (formative), and to check for mastery (summative) including alternative, authentic assessments.

compare nursing research to current nursing practice.

Research Assignment: Changes in Professional Practice This activity is designed to help the student compare nursing research to current nursing practice.  In the classic research article, The Hazards of Immobility (1967), Download The Hazards of Immobility (1967),the effects of immobility on the functions of various body systems are discussed, as well as the nursing interventions utilized to prevent these effects. The student will read the article and select one of the “functions” to research.  The student will locate a minimum of two (2) current nursing research articles related to the selected “function” to compare and contrast to this classic nursing research article.

What other ethical dilemmas do healthcare professionals and public health officials face in dealing with pandemics such as influenza and COVID-19?

Pandemics pose many ethical dilemmas because the rights of the individual and the well-being of the population (public health) may be in conflict. For example, resources may become scarce, and rationing leads to ethical dilemmas and decisions on who has access to healthcare services. Requirements to wear masks, social distance, self-isolation and quarantine, and vaccination often lead to conflicts of personal rights and public health mandates, as well as personal and professional ethics. COVID-19 is the most recent pandemic, but the same ethical dilemmas were faced over the past 20 years with the pandemics of SARS, Ebola, Zika, and influenza.
Watch this video about stopping the spread of COVID-19.
Read the following articles:
Then, read the following case study.
Epidemics and pandemics pose ethical dilemmas to the community and to healthcare workers and healthcare institutions. Whether it is influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious disease outbreak, healthcare workers have professional and personal obligations to care for patients and are considered “essential personnel.” They have a duty to care for their patients but also responsibilities to care for themselves and their families. The healthcare organization also has a duty to care for its employees.
Consider Janet who is a 30-year-old medical assistant working in an urgent care center that is seeing many patients with respiratory illnesses and many are coming in for testing. The center has experienced shortages in its supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) and are short staffed at times.
Janet’s husband is concerned that she will develop the disease and bring it home to him, their children, and his mother who lives with them. He does not want her to go to work, but Janet does not want to abandon the patients or contribute to the stress of an already overworked healthcare team.
Based on the scenario, answer the following questions:

Janet must come to a decision and resolve her ethical dilemma. What is she likely to consider in making her decision? What personal values and morals and professional ethics contribute to the dilemma?
What other ethical dilemmas do healthcare professionals and public health officials face in dealing with pandemics such as influenza and COVID-19?

What is the inherent factor that causes employees in criminal justice organizations to implement such levels of personal loyalty at the expense of justice? What are the benefits and hazards of such a system of loyalty?

Long-term employees may find themselves motivated by loyalty to their superiors rather than the mission of the organization. This phenomenon seems to be more likely in criminal justice organizations than in private organizations.

What is the inherent factor that causes employees in criminal justice organizations to implement such levels of personal loyalty at the expense of justice? What are the benefits and hazards of such a system of loyalty?
In which arm of criminal justice is this loyalty to superiors most detrimental to the system? Why?
As a leader, what changes would you make to ensure that all officers collectively followed the law and remained true to the organization’s mission, instead of personally developing their individual system of improving their work environments?

In this section, you will describe the pathology (statistics about it, background information, etc.). Give as much information as you can about it but be sure it is relevant information and not just filler. It should be a comprehensive introductory section of the condition in one to two paragraphs.

Assigned topic PARKINSONS DISEASE
Description of Pathology:

In this section, you will describe the pathology (statistics about it, background information, etc.). Give as much information as you can about it but be sure it is relevant information and not just filler. It should be a comprehensive introductory section of the condition in one to two paragraphs.

Normal anatomy of the major body system affected: In this section, you will describe what is considered normal anatomy for your particular pathophysiology. For example, if you are discussing a disease related to the brain, explain what is normal for the brain from an anatomical standpoint. You should show comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental concepts and communicate information using scientific vocabulary. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section.
Normal physiology of the major body system affected: In this section, you will be discussing physiology. Keep in mind that when describing physiology, it isn’t enough to merely provide a list of functions of the body system (Ex: Neurons send signals throughout the body), instead, you need to be able to describe how it does it. The how is the physiology. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section
Mechanism of Pathophysiology: This section is likely going to be the most in-depth and longest section. In this section, you will explain your particular pathophysiology from a scientific standpoint. In the previous two sections, you explained what is considered normal, in this section, you should describe what the pathophysiology is doing that is causing these issues, how the normal anatomy & physiology is affected/different in a person with your condition. You should show a thorough understanding of the anatomical and physiological changes contributing to the disease.
Prevention: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology could be prevented. This should outline possible prevention protocols, or clearly indicate if none is available based on the current scientific literature.
Treatment: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology is commonly treated. Provide possible treatment protocols for the condition based on current scientific literature. Be sure to bring in nursing relevant information and how you might be involved in the treatment of the condition.
Conclusion: Finally you should summarize your findings.
