For your course project, imagine that your organization’s HR department or the top leader has asked you to develop an Ethic’s Guide for Leaders. You are not asked to develop a full ethics policy or policy statement but a simplified guide that explains the fundamentals for ethical thinking, decision-making, and conduct in the organization that supports a healthy and trust-based culture. In other words, the guide will help explain the key considerations, principles, practices, and perhaps even “why?”

Changes in culture and technology have resulted in patient populations that are often well informed and educated, even before consulting or considering a healthcare need delivered by a health professional. Fueled by this, health professionals are increasingly involving patients in treatment decisions. However, this often comes with challenges, as illnesses and treatments can become complex. What has your experience been with patient involvement in treatment or healthcare decisions?

Fueled by this, health professionals are increasingly involving patients in treatment decisions. However, this often comes with challenges, as illnesses and treatments can become complex.
What has your experience been with patient involvement in treatment or healthcare decisions?
In this Discussion, you will share your experiences and consider the impact of patient involvement (or lack of involvement). You will also consider the use of a patient decision aid to inform best practices for patient care and healthcare decision making.
To Prepare:

Review the Resources and reflect on a time when you experienced a patient being brought into (or not being brought into) a decision regarding their treatment plan.
Review the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute’s Decision Aids Inventory at https://decisionaid.ohri.ca/Links to an external site..

Choose “For Specific Conditions,” then Browse an alphabetical listing of decision aids by health topic.

After you have chosen a topic (or condition) and a decision aid, consider if social determinants of healthLinks to an external site. were considered in the treatment plan Social determinants of health can affect a patient’s decision as these are conditions in the patient’s environment, such as economic stability, education access, health care access and quality, neighborhood, and social and community context.
NOTE: To ensure compliance with HIPAA rules, please DO NOT use the patient’s real name or any information that might identify the patient or organization/practice.
Post a brief description of the situation you experienced and explain how incorporating or not incorporating patient preferences, social determinants of healthLinks to an external site., and values impacted the outcome of their treatment plan. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how including patient preferences, social determinants of health, and values might impact the trajectory of the situation and how these were reflected in the treatment plan. Finally, explain the value of the patient decision aid you selected and how it might contribute to effective decision making, both in general and in the experience you described. Describe how you might use this decision aid inventory in your professional practice or personal life.

  Discussion for week 5
Explain what is meant by the terms fluid balance, electrolyte balance, and acid-base balance, and discuss their importance for homeostasis. List the most frequent threats to acid-base balance, and explain how the body responds when the pH of body fluids varies outside normal limits.
Fluid balance:  Fluid balance is an important aspect of homeostatis which refers to the maintenance of correct amount of water in the body of an organism. The fluid balance relies on the principle that water lost from the body via respiration, urination, defection or sweating  should be equal to the water gained into the body via  drinking or eating (National Library of Medicine, n.d.).
electrolyte balance: this refers to the correct concentration of electrolytes such as sodium ion,, calcium ions, potassium ions, chloride ions, phosphate ions and magnesium ions in the blood, urine as well as body fluids.
Acid base balance: It refers to a balance between the acidity and alkalinity of the blood plasma by exchange of hydrogen ions.
Fluid balance, electrolyte balance and acid base balance are all important aspects for homeostatis. Homeostatis refers to the regulatory system of our body that maintains variable factors such as water, electrolyte and acid base composition of body fluids nearly constant. Fluid balance helps to maintain a balance of water in our body (Libretexts,2020). Osmolarity is regulated by intake and excretion of ions from the water. Acid base balance helps to maintain proper pH of body fluids. When the body fluids become acidic as a result of metabolic activities, exchange of hydrogen ions takes place such that a balance is maintained.
The most frequent threats to acid base balance are: Acidosis and Alkalosis. Acid base balance is evaluated by pH, carbon dioxide (acid) level and bicarbonate (base) level on the blood. Lungs, kidneys and buffer systems in our body help to maintain the acid base balance. Carbon dioxide level increases in the blood due to excretion of wastes of metabolic processes.  This leads to decrease in pH. The lungs  immediately remove carbon dioxide from the blood via signaling from the brain which increase the speed of breathing. This helps to restore the  correct pH of blood. The kidneys also excrete out excess acids or bases to maintain correct pH. Carbonic acid and bicarbonate ion is a buffer system that helps maintain correct pH of blood.

1. (Chelsea).  My professional development goal is to become a knowledgeable and ethical nurse practitioner who eliminates the gaps in care for patients and improves their health. This directly correlates with Walden?s emphasis on social change. Social change is the use of complex processes to ?promote the worth, dignity, and development of individuals, communities, organizations, institutions, cultures, and societies. Positive social change results in the improvement of human and social conditions.? (Walden University, 2023). To reach my professional developmental goal and develop my portfolio, I will use the following strategies: completing continued education courses, attending workshops and conferences, and getting certifications related to my area of practice. The continued development of a professional portfolio ?encourages application and integration of knowledge, helps students recognize performance gaps, fosters student development, and promotes a student’s responsibility for learning? (McMillan et al., 2014). A professional portfolio will truly represent the practitioner it belongs to. (Casey & Egan, 2013). To conclude, developing one?s professional portfolio will help one reach their professional development goals.

Two strategies I plan to implement for including my academic activities and accomplishments in my professional development goals is to start developing my portfolio early. I plan to start working on gathering all the pieces for it now. Burns (2018) encourages pieces and documents for the portfolio to be gathered as it becomes available. I plan to keep it updated and add new pieces to it at the start of each class to show my learning process through my MSN journey. I will keep it up to date as I go throughout the program so I do not have to go back through at the end to locate everything and just throw it together at once, which could cause me to skip important pieces to be included. Another strategy I plan to implement is by joining more associations and keeping up to date on those.  as it is a very important piece to include in my professional portfolio.  I will continue to work on my networking skills as another way to strengthen my portfolio. Hannans & Olivo (2017), state, ?Networking has alway+C110s been important to professional growth, and the digital world makes it easy (p. 49). These goals align with Walden University?s emphasis on social change because the goal of this portfolio will help me as I graduate and enter my FNP role. Walden (n.d.), states it, ?defines positive social change as a deliberate process of creating and applying ideas, strategies, and actions to promote the worth, dignity, and development of individuals, communities, organizations, institutions, cultures, and societies? (para. 4)

Describe your personal commitment to positive social change in your community as a health professional. Explain how your Walden experience might have strengthened your ability to advocate for social change in your community.

As noted in the Learning Resources this week, health professionals can be leaders of social change. Consider the story of Paul Amigh, a student and teaching assistant at Walden:
My name is Paul Amigh (pronounced Ah-me’), and I am a student in the PhD Public Health program at Walden University with a concentration in Epidemiology and a Teaching Assistant for the School of Health Sciences bachelor?s degree programs. I have obtained my entire college experience from Walden University, and it has changed my life and given me the desire to change the lives of others.
I am a U.S. Army veteran who graduated from the Academy of Health Sciences, attended vocational school in Central PA for my L.P.N. license, and hold a BS in Public Health with a concentration in Health Informatics from Walden University. I have spent my life in service of my country and others working as medic, a prison nurse, travel nurse, and as a charge nurse in an advanced Alzheimer?s unit. Feeling a greater need to do more for my community and improve the lives of others, it was my bachelor?s degree from Walden University that gave me the opportunity to work in education. I began teaching medical assisting, medical billing and coding, and health informatics classes at a local technical school in Central Pennsylvania, but I still felt I could do more.
I created a local chapter of SkillsUSA and began to train students in leadership and skills competitions related to their chosen vocational career path. It was here I discovered students just need someone to believe in them. Spending a few hours each day training and working with these students to improve upon the soft skills employers are looking for in communication, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and fundraising the entire cost of membership and travel, I created Champions at Work. Over the last six years, I have personally trained and mentored more than 50 Pennsylvania State Gold Medalists and trained fifteen National Medalists, with five of them becoming national champions!
This October I stepped down from teaching and have been appointed as the new Public Health Program Administrator of Western Pennsylvania for the PA Department of Health?s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. This special Supplemental Nutrition Program provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, healthcare referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. Established as a permanent program in 1974, WIC is considered the premiere public health program for the Department of Agriculture.
My dream is to not only complete my PhD from Walden University, but to someday call Walden University my employer and continue to work with some of the most amazing professors and mentors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from, getting to know them on a personal level, and changing the lives of more people just as Walden University changed mine.

Select a B-2-B firm such as FedEx, Apple, IBM, Boeing, GE, or Caterpillar and assess its business model. Develop a list of particular skills, resources, and strategies that are especially important to the selected firm’s strategic position. Give particular attention to those skills, resources, or characteristics that competitors would have the most difficulty in matching. Then comment on how smart, connected products/services might be particularly useful for providing value for customers and differentiating the chosen company from its competitors.

Explain the different ways that the data science team at Nutri Mondo could deploy what they have found in the data?

If the decision were yours to decide, explain how you would deploy the data. You may combine or edit the options presented Nutri Mondo for you answer. Explain your reasoning.

Summarize the feedback the data science team are receiving from others in the organization. Include how the feedback is providing insights for the data science team to refine their model.

Your report should be 4–6 paragraphs in length.

Now imagine you are leading your own group session. How would you go about handling a difficult situation with a disruptive group member? How would you elicit participation in your group? What would you anticipate finding in the different phases of group therapy? What do you see as the benefits and challenges of group therapy?

In a 3- to 4-page paper, identify the video you selected and address the following:

What group therapy techniques were demonstrated? How well do you believe these techniques were demonstrated?
What evidence from the literature supports the techniques demonstrated?
What did you notice that the therapist did well?
Explain something that you would have handled differently.
What is an insight that you gained from watching the therapist handle the group therapy?
