Explain how self-reflection impacts the role of a human resource leader.

Jack Welch, former CEO, General Electric Corp.

Jack Welch’s quote summarizes the key premise of the value of gathering information to inform ongoing self-awareness and self-assessment—that becoming a more effective leader entails a journey into yourself. This includes assessing your strengths, capabilities, how you influence others, your personal leadership vision, and how you see them impacting your role as a human resource leader.

Note: You will need to incorporate results from this assessment into Assessment 4. Therefore, it is recommended that you complete this assessment before Assessment 4.

It is important to be able to understand and articulate who you are as a leader. This not only assists during times of interviews for new positions and performance reviews but also for educating others on who you are as a leader and what they can expect from your leadership.

Obtaining an informed awareness and understanding of your leadership strengths and opportunities requires gathering relevant information rather than relying solely on your own experience, perception, and intuition. Relevant data can come from surveys, online assessments, feedback from others and performance reviews, just to name a few.

Articulating these ideas for ourselves is often a challenge. Spending time preparing the clarity of your message will be useful for future career activities, as well as validation for yourself.

For this assessment you will gather relevant data to inform your understanding of who you are as leader, including your strengths, opportunities, and leadership style and articulating that effectively.

Write a 5–7 page memo to your new leader in which you identify your strengths as a leader, how this impacts your role as a human resource leader, and your personal leadership statement. You are expected to provide relevant evidence to support your definition of who you are as a leader. Because you will be discussing your own leadership experiences, behaviors, and vision, identifying yourself in the first person would be appropriate. Your paper should be well organized and cover the following elements.

Introduction.

Summarize your personal leadership strengths and capabilities. Include the following:

A minimum of three relevant leadership self-assessment sources that inform and support your claims.

References and citations for the self-assessment sources you use.

Analyze how your personal strengths and capabilities align with leadership theories for effective human resource leadership. Address the following:

The concept of influence and how your strengths and capabilities support the need to influence as a human resource professional.

Influence strategies and examples of how you have or would use them.

References and citations from relevant sources to support your discussion.

Develop a personal leadership statement. Address the following:

A statement of who you are as a leader, based on your analysis from leadership self-assessments and knowledge of leadership theories.

A statement that is concise, personal, declarative, and connects important elements that are critical for you.

The Personal Leadership Statements activity provides clear steps and ideas for articulating your vision for yourself as a leader through a personal leadership statement.

Explain how self-reflection impacts the role of a human resource leader.

Conclusion.

How would you describe your career path, and how did you reach the position you are in now?

Each team member is required to conduct one interview with an individual currently working in the student’s career of interest. This individual cannot be a family member, classmate, or fellow student at KSU.
Interviews can be conducted in person, over the phone, or via email. The objective of this exercise is to expand your professional network and learn about your career of interest. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you contact individuals working at organizations that interest you or individuals working in a job you hope to have in the future (see question #3 below, for example).
Interviews must be structured and follow the questions provided below. This is to ensure consistency, to help ease the interview process (you don’t have to come up with questions on your own), and to help with writing the executive summary. Below are the questions that should be asked during the interview:
How would you describe your career path, and how did you reach the position you are in now?
What do you believe is the most important skill or type of knowledge that is needed to be successful in your job?
For someone looking to start a career in your field of work (or “to improve my career in your field of work” if you already have a job in this area), what are the most important first steps I can take to start moving towards that goal?
This interview is part of my management class, from your experience, what are the characteristics of an ideal manager?
Following the interviews, the team is required to develop an executive summary of the information they gathered from each of the interviews. The summary should contain the following information:
What are the similarities and differences in how the people interviewed reached their current job?
What skills or areas of knowledge are needed to be successful in each job, is there a common theme across jobs?
What are the most important first steps for each job (question #3), are there any similarities or differences between jobs?
How does each person interviewed describe an ideal manager? Are there any differences or similarities?
What’s due – Each team must submit a 3 to 4 page single-spaced executive summary (not including the title page or contact information page; 5 page maximum), which summarizes each of the questions listed above based on information gathered from the interviews. Additionally, the team must include the email of the person interviewed, when the interview took place (day/month), the organization and job title of the person interviewed, and what medium (email, phone, face-to-face) was used to conduct the interview. Papers will be graded on the quality of the presentation (writing, structure, and organization) and the quality of the responses to the above questions (succinct and clear responses to the questions above).
Please note: copy/pasting text from websites directly into the paper is considered plagiarism. You can use quotes, “Like this” (Lowman, 2020), if appropriately cited. But, excessive use will result in point deductions due to a lack of original content.

Explain the challenges faced by the client(s)—for example, drug addiction, lack of basic needs, victim of abuse, new school environment, etc. Analyze how the social environment affects the client.

Assessing a client’s biological, psychological, and social history is a holistic approach that is an essential aspect of social work practice. Since one area often affects the other two, it is important to get as accurate an assessment as possible when working with a client. Social workers use the bio-psycho-social tool to communicate specific information, and possible conclusions, about a client to other professionals. It is, at once, a summary of current issues and problems; a listing of past factors that may be relevant to the current situation; and a description of potential issues that may have an effect on the client in the future. In addition to describing the client’s challenges and problems, the assessment identifies strengths and assets that are available to provide support. For this Project you create a bio-psycho-social assessment.
BY DAY 7
Submit a 6- to 9-page paper that focuses on an adolescent from one of the case studies presented in this course. For this Project, complete a bio-psycho-social assessment and provide an analysis of the assessment. This Project is divided into two parts:
Part A: Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment: The assessment should be written in professional language and include sections on each of the following:

Presenting issue (including referral source)
Demographic information
Current living situation
Birth and developmental history
School and social relationships
Family members and relationships
Health and medical issues (including psychological and psychiatric functioning, substance abuse)
Spiritual development
Social, community, and recreational activities
Client strengths, capacities, and resources

Part B: Analysis of Assessment. Address each of the following:

Explain the challenges faced by the client(s)—for example, drug addiction, lack of basic needs, victim of abuse, new school environment, etc.
Analyze how the social environment affects the client.
Identify which human behavior or social theories may guide your practice with this individual and explain how these theories inform your assessment.
Explain how you would use this assessment to develop mutually agreed-upon goals to be met in order to address the presenting issue and challenges face by the client.
Explain how you would use the identified strengths of the client(s) in a treatment plan.
Explain how you would use evidence-based practice when working with this client and recommend specific intervention strategies (skills, knowledge, etc.) to address the presenting issue.
Analyze the ethical issues present in the case. Explain how will you address them.
Describe the issues will you need to address around cultural competence

CASE STUDYDalia is a 14-year-old, biracial female African and Irish American descent that resides with her parents who are middle-class. She is the youngest of the siblings and is currently the only child who remains at home. Dalia’s parents looked into counseling services for the behavioral issues bases on the school’s recommendation. (Zastrow, C. H., & Kirst-Ashman, K. K. 2016). The issues at school included argumentative behavior with teachers, physical altercations with peers, poor concentration in her classes, irritability, verbal conflicts, truancy, and extreme sexual behavior with her male peers. At home, Dalia had become more argumentative and physically threatening. Dalia’s parents reported that she was up most of the night and slept most of the day. They also reported that her mood was very irritable and that her behaviors were extremely impulsive. (Zastrow, C. H., & Kirst-Ashman, K. K. 2016).

You have been recently hired as an assistant controller for XYZ Industries, a large, publically held manufacturing company. Your immediate supervisor is the controller who also reports directly to the VP of Finance. The controller has assigned you the task of preparing the year-end adjusting entries.  In the receivables area, you have prepared an aging accounts receivable and have applied historical percentages to the balances of each of the age categories.  The analysis indicates that an appropriate estimated balance for the allowance for uncollectible accounts is $180,000.  The existing balance in the allowance account prior to any adjusting entry is a $20,000 credit balance. After showing your analysis to the controller, he tells you to change the aging category of a large account from over 120 days to current status and to prepare a new invoice to the customer with a revised date that agrees with the new category.  This will change the required allowance for uncollectible accounts from $180,000 to $135,000. Tactfully, you ask the controller for an explanation for the change and he tells you “We need the extra income, the bottom line is too low.” Required: In a 2-3 page paper, discuss the following: Consider what you have learned relative to ethics and financial reporting. What is the rationale for the calculations/process used to estimate the $180,000 uncollectible allowance? How do you think the misstatement of funds will impact the income statement and balance sheet? What is the ethical dilemma you face? What are the ethical considerations? Consider your options and responsibilities as assistant controller. Identify the key internal and external stakeholders. What are the negative impacts that can happen if you do not follow the instructions of your supervisor? What are the potential consequences if you do comply with your supervisor’s instructions? Who will be negatively impacted?

Effective financial reporting depends on sound ethical behavior. Financial scandals in accounting and the businesses world have resulted in legislation to ensure adequate disclosures and honesty and integrity in financial reporting. A sound economy is contingent on truthful and reliable financial reporting.
Instructions:

Read the following scenario.
Answer the questions that follow. This will be a 2-3 page submission in a question and answer format (also in paragraph form). An introduction and conclusion is not required.
Refer back to your textbook for guidance on how to think through the scenario.

You are a single mother of an 11-year-old boy. He is a good student but has had difficulty making friends. Recently you’ve noticed he has been hanging around an older boy from the neighborhood. You have heard rumors about this older boy being “bad news.” As your son begins to hang around with this boy, his grades decline, and now you are worried for your son. You confront your son about his new friend, and he becomes angry. He storms out of the house and goes missing for two days. On the third day, you hear a knock on the door. It is the police. They have found your son. He has been shot and killed in a gang-related shooting. You discover that the older boy is part of the gang and that he is the one who shot your son because he wanted his sneakers, which you had just bought for him for his birthday, and your son did not want to give them to him. Specifically, the following rubric criteria must be addressed for your chosen scenario: Explain the purpose and effect of victim impact statements Craft a victim impact statement from the perspective of the victim .

CJ 315 Module Three Practice Activity Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

In this activity, you will explore the experience of the victim in the criminal justice system. You will choose a scenario and write a victim impact statement from the perspective of the victim in the scenario. Prompt In this module, you learned about victim impact statements (VISs). VISs commonly address “the harm or trauma, the economic loss or damage to victims as a result of the crime, and a victim’s reaction to the proposed sentence or disposition” (Takahashi & James, 2019). They can be in written format, in an oral presentation, or even a pre-recorded audio file or video. For this practice activity, the format will be written. First, read each of the scenarios below. Next, choose one of the scenarios. Then, explain the purpose and effect of VISs. Last, write a VIS from the perspective of the victim in the scenario chosen.

Scenario 1:

It’s a normal sunny Saturday afternoon. Your spouse asks you if you want to take a ride up the coast. You hesitantly agree because you need to pick the twins up at your mother’s house. Your spouse suggests that you both pick up the twins early and make it a fun family day. You and your spouse pick up your twin boys, and you begin your journey. You enjoy the warmth of the sun beating down on your face as you close your eyes to soak in the heat. Then you wake up in an emergency room. Your spouse and two children are gone. You learn that a drunk driver crossed over into your lane and hit your vehicle head-on, killing your spouse and children instantly. The drunk driver walked away without injury.

Scenario 2:

You are a single mother of an 11-year-old boy. He is a good student but has had difficulty making friends. Recently you’ve noticed he has been hanging around an older boy from the neighborhood. You have heard rumors about this older boy being “bad news.” As your son begins to hang around with this boy, his grades decline, and now you are worried for your son. They have found your son. He has been shot and killed in a gang-related shooting. You discover that the older boy is part of the gang and that he is the one who shot your son because he wanted his sneakers, which you had just bought for him for his birthday, and your son did not want to give them to him. Specifically, the following rubric criteria must be addressed for your chosen scenario: Explain the purpose and effect of victim impact statements (50–100 words) Craft a victim impact statement from the perspective of the victim (150–200 words)

The tension between the north and south played a defining role in shaping early American society.  For this question, discuss how the north and south diverged from from one another from the 1790s to the end of Reconstruction in 1877.  Discuss three events happened that caused this tension?  Who were the major figures in both the north and south, and what specifically did they argue?

First, answer one (1) of the two questions from Part I with a 700 word, Use the textbook as your prime source of evidence and remember that YOU MUST CITE PAGE NUMBERS FROM THE MAIN COURSEBOOK
 ONLY USE COURSE MATERIALS.
       PART I –
1.)        The tension between the north and south played a defining role in shaping early American society.  For this question, discuss how the north and south diverged from from one another from the 1790s to the end of Reconstruction in 1877.  Discuss three events happened that caused this tension?  Who were the major figures in both the north and south, and what specifically did they argue?  I recommend that you discuss two of the following: the 1) political, 2) social, and 3) philosophical differences that emerged between the north and south, and explain why these societies ultimately proved so incompatible.
Next, answer Part II with a 750 word. Use A SHORT, OFFHAND KILLING AFFAIR as your prime source of evidence and YOU MUST CITE SPECIFIC PASSAGES WITH PAGE NUMBERS FROM THIS BOOK to earn a passing grade on this question. ONLY USE COURSE MATERIALS.
1.)       In A Short, Offhand, Killing Affair, author Paul Foos contends that the American military army and volunteer forces that invaded Mexico represent an accurate cross section of American society and American views on race and ethnicity during the 1840s.  Utilizing Foos, explain the state of race relations and racial attitudes in America during the U.S. Mexican War; what specific actions did the U.S. military forces take in Mexico that prove many among the American forces were racist?  Provide specific examples from the book that might be indicative of how Americans viewed the Mexican people, as well as other peoples they perceived as racially different.
Next, utilize your course book to detail a few instances of how the racial attitudes described by Foos during the 1840s set the tone for the way Americans continued to deal with people they perceived as different (African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and Native Americans) from the end of the U.S. Mexican War to the end of Reconstruction in 1877.  You may also discuss, if you like, immigration’s impact on how America struggled over the issue of who should be included in American society and who should be excluded based on race and ethnicity.

Why did the Senators feel that they had to rid Rome of Caesar? Do you agree? Why or why not? Why do you think the senators believed he had to be put to death? Do you agree? Why?

Discussion Topic Instructions: Simply writing a reply to the questions does not guarantee points. You are expected to make thoughtful, informed posts to the questions. A sentence or two is NOT sufficient. You need a well-thought out . Think of these as essays where you must develop complete answers with details, examples, and analysis. Proofread before submitting—do NOT have grammatical, punctuation, or other errors in your post. The instructor also wishes to see students responding to the posts of others—as in a class discussion. Submissions will NOT be graded or given credit if they are more than a week late. Late submissions will be subject to a one letter grade penalty. These should be based on our course materials (as well as your own analysis). While you may use things you know, do NOT use outside sources for this assignment. Any evidence of cheating (using outside sources, AI like ChatGPT, borrowing from another student’s post, etc.) will result in a zero for this assignment. See rubric. Discussion Board Prompt: Why did the Senators feel that they had to rid Rome of Caesar? Do you agree? Why or why not? Why do you think the senators believed he had to be put to death? Do you agree? Why? Why do you think that Augustus was allowed to live and rule? Should the senators have rid the state of him as well? Should he have suffered the same fate as Caesar? Was Rome strengthened or weakened by these two men and in what ways? Explain fully and use specific details details in answering the questions. Fully develop your ideas. I am looking for both mastery of the class material and thoughtful
