There are very different views of what types of evidence are most credible in evaluating the effectiveness of psychological treatment research. In this discussion you will analyze basic applied psychological research as well as evaluate how researchers applied a research process in the development of specific components. To begin, read the following articles (which can be accessed through the ProQuest database in the Ashford University Library):  “Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology: Implications for Research and Research Training” “Practice-Based Evidence: Back to the Future” “Psychological Treatments: Putting Evidence into Practice and Practice into Evidence” After reading the articles listed above, select two of them.  Analyze the basic applied research within each of your two selected articles by answering the following questions: What is the main point-of-view in each article?  What are the primary assumptions each author makes?

What is the main point-of-view in each article?
What are the primary assumptions each author makes?
Which author are you inclined to agree with?  Support your choice with scholarly reasoning and cite your evidence.

You are required to include one peer-reviewed source that was published within the last five years to support your perspective.  You may not use any of the sources that were assigned for this course.  For assistance finding articles view the “Searching for Articles” and the “Peer-Reviewed Articles” tutorials which are available under Tutorials on the Getting Research Help tab at the top of the Ashford University Library homepage.

Present a picture of an object (TV, Ipad Screen, Book Cover) that contains a right angle (it could be something in nature or that is man-made). Use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the two sides that make the right angle and measure the distance from the end of one side to the end of the other side (hypotenuse). Draw a diagram of the object including the measurements. Use your leg measurements on your diagram to calculate a theoretical hypotenuse. (Show all steps). Answer the following questions: Does the hypotenuse that measured with a ruler/measuring tape equal the hypotenuse you calculated? Why do you think they are or are not exactly the same? What did you learn from developing this presentation?

Imagine you are a Compensation Manager at a large service organization. Roughly 700 of your employees are paid the MWR (Minimum Wage Rate), which is presently $7.25 per hour. The CEO recently came to the CFO (your boss) in a highly excited state. He was upset because he had learned that local legislators were preparing to propose an increase to the local MWR to $7.75. His frustration was obvious as he declared, “This will put us out of business!” The CFO wants you to prepare a brief that will make the CEO feel better. What could I discuss and write to help in this brief?

A design engineer in a major automobile-company received 2 reports concerning engine fires and  explosions which occurred in hot weather in the company’s popular economy car. At the time the  engine of this model was approved and released for production, the engineer advised the plant that  he felt the carburetor and gas lines were constructed in such a way that under excessive heat  conditions there could be a gas leak. At that time, the engineer argued for a modification which  would have added about US $ 5000 to the cost of producing each engine, but this proposal was  turned down. He continued to argue for the modification and for special testing, but the standard  tests performed on the car did not indicate any danger, and the engineer was told to drop the issue.  However, upon receiving the two reports, the engineer again pressed for special testing under  excessive heat conditions, and urged the company to warn the public and immediately recall all  the cars of this model. By this time however, such a recall would probably cost the company  between US $ 0.5M and US $ 1M, and the engineer was again told to mind his own business or he  would be fired. In the meantime, four more reports of engine fires came in from a desert area in  the North-Eastern region. The engineer was now convinced he was right. To what extent does he owe loyalty to the company, where he has worked for 15 years and has  been promoted several times?
