Explain one argument for why AI may never be able to replicate a human being completely.

Human vs. Machine?

After reading this week’s Required Learning Materials, review Barfield’s “Cyborgs and Enhancement Technology,” Rubin’s “Robotic Souls,” and Shanahan’s chapter, “Heaven or Hell,” please do the following:

1. Identify and describe three specific ways our current understanding of a human being can be called into question, complicated, or changed by technological advances. Be sure to refer to information in the Required Learning Materials for all of your answer.

2. Explain one argument for why AI may never be able to replicate a human being completely. Be sure to refer to information in the Required Learning Materials.

3. Based on what you have learned from the readings, determine and explain your answer to the question: “Can machines be human?” What do you think and why?

4. Use  two quotes from the Required Learning Materials  to support or explain your points. Make sure to provide in-text citations for both quotes in MLA format.

5. Provide references for all sources in MLA format.

Discuss one ethical issue that could arise from the widespread use of the technology you chose.

Choose one of the following options for your Post #1.

Option #1 – Transhumanism

After reading this week’s Required Learning Materials, review Bostrom’s “Transhumanist FAQs” and Torresen’s “A Review of Future and Ethical Perspectives of Robotics and AI.” please do the following:

1. Provide a brief description of transhumanism in your own words. This should be a paraphrase and/or summary of the description in Bostrom. (Please see tips on paraphrasing here. Please see tips on summarizing here.)

2. Choose one of the forms of cutting edge technology from the FAQ (nanotechnology, biological warfare, artificial intelligence, nuclear technology) and find and describe a real-life example of it. Your real-life example should be from a reliable article in a popular technology publication or an article in the UMGC library.

3. Explain why the technology you chose would appeal to transhumanists.

4. Discuss one ethical issue that could arise from the widespread use of the technology you chose. You can refer back to the Learning Materials from week 3 if needed.

5. Use  two quotes from the Required Learning Materials  to support or explain your points. Make sure to provide in-text citations for both quotes in MLA format.

6. Provide references for all sources in MLA format.

Question 1 [7 pts]

Describe how an algorithm with linear time complexity behaves.

Describe how an algorithm with exponential time complexity behaves.

Question 2 [7 pts]

Describe time and space complexity of an algorithm. Explain the relationship between them.

Question 3 [7 pts]

Describe polynomial time ( P) and nondeterministic polynomial time ( NP) algorithms. What is the difference between them? Give examples to each.

Question 4 [7 pts]

What is an NP-complete problem? Describe the factoring problem that the RSA algorithm is based on.

Question 5 [7 pts]

Which of the following statements are correct?

· Quadratic time complexity is a type of polynomial complexity

· Superpolynomial time complex algorithms are harder to solve than algorithms with exponential time complexity.

· Trying to find the 128-bit key of a cipher text encrypted with AES is a problem with exponential complexity

· Factoring problem that RSA is using is not probably an NP-complete problem.

How might these aspects be revealed in  the context of an authentic transnational family?
  • Review media segment in which three early childhood  professionals discuss their thoughts and experiences in working with  children and their families who are immigrants. Which comments and  insights from the media segment resonated with you the most?
  • Bring to mind the course text reading and the ideas shared  throughout Chapter 5. Also consider what you have learned about  transnational families from the article Supporting Transnational  Families. What aspects of cultural dissonance might a child from a  transnational family experience? How might these aspects be revealed in  the context of an authentic transnational family?
  • Finally, think about your own personal and professional dispositions.  What do you expect will be your greatest joy(s) and challenge(s) when  it comes to working with immigrant and/or transnational families?

Then address the following prompts:

  • At least one specific idea, experience, and/or challenge presented  by the practitioners in the media segment that you found to be  particularly noteworthy, insightful, or helpful as it relates to working  with families and children who are immigrants.
  • A summary of three aspects of cultural dissonance a child from a  transnational family might experience. In your summary, compose a brief  scenario that illustrates one of these aspects in the context of an  authentic transnational family.
  • One joy and one challenge that you might experience while working with immigrant and/or transnational families.

How may using these different techniques and strategies help students learn in your classroom?

answer the following questions in your discussion post:

  • What is the difference between accommodation and modification?
  • How do teachers tailor their lessons to reach all students? (give at least one example)
  • What are ways to differentiate instruction for ELL students? (fully explain and describe what that may look like)
  • How may using these different techniques and strategies help students learn in your classroom? (fully explain and support with examples of how the strategies will help students)
  • Describe how you would address the needs of your ELL and ESE students in your content area class. How could you differentiate the text you would you use? What accommodations and modifications would you provide?

RED 4325 Reading to Learn:  ELLs in Grades 4 – 6

Program description

Many students encounter difficulty as they transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn” in fourth grade, and this difficulty can be even more difficult for English language learners. Why do so many students experience what is often referred to as the “fourth grade slump”? What can teachers do to make the transition into the upper elementary grades less difficult, especially for ELLs? This webcast explores effective strategies for instruction and assessment that can help address these important questions.

After watching and reading the text,  copy and respond to the following questions in a Word Document, number each question, use Times New Roman font, and use 12 point font. Use the text and video as evidence to support your answers and cite them APA format :

  1. What do we mean when we say that good comprehension instruction takes place before, during, and after reading?
  2. What are some examples of the academic language that students need to know in the discipline /grade level you plan to teach?
  3. Describe some specific effective strategies that you can use to help ELL students learn vocabulary (at least 2 strategies).
  4. Create a graphic organizer that could be used in a class to teach a concept in your discipline and explain why it would be effective with ELL students (cite in APA format any sources you may use). Add the graphic organizer and also explain.
  5. If you were to begin a new lesson or unit of study in a class, what method(s) might you use to preview difficult vocabulary or concepts with your ELLs?
