Choose a protest or event in which people are calling for change and create a photo essay or podcast about it

Now that you have some idea of how media coverage works, you have the chance to take on the role of an editor. Choose a protest or event in which people are calling for change and create a photo essay or podcast about it. You will then write an ‘artist’s statement’ about your piece.

Here are some possible topics for you to consider.

Protests over the death of George Floyd

Ontario high school students walk out for climate change

Indigenous Day of Action

G20 Summit

Idle No More

Not Another Black Life

Occupy

Hong Kong Umbrella protests

Arab Spring

Oka crisis

Part 1: Create a photo essay or podcast

Option No. 1: Photo essay

Some considerations

Since you were likely not taking photos at any of these events, you will have to research online for images. As this is a school project, not for profit, you will not have to pay royalties, but be sure to credit the photos you choose using proper MLA format.

Review the MLA Citation Guide

Press on “MLA Citation Guide(Opens in a new window)” to review the MLA citation style that you’ve been using throughout the course.

Task 1: Create a photo array of 6–9 images

Before you search for photographs, research the event.

Why did the protest take place? What was the inciting incident?

What is the background to that incident?

Who organized the protest? Who were the protesters?

Where and when did it take place?

Did it remain peaceful or were there damage or casualties?

Did any change result from the protest?

Aim to tell a story with your photo essay. Title or write a caption for each photo.

Please pick any one of these topics: Protests over the death of George Floyd

Indigenous Day of Action

G20 Summit

Idle No More

Not Another Black Life

Hong Kong Umbrella protests

The impact of the cotton gin on society is comparable to the impact of all of the following developments.

“With the [cotton gin], a single operator could clean as much cotton in a few hours as a group of workers had once needed a whole day to do . . . Finance discussions, why is it important to demonstrate ethics and professional integrity when performing financial analyses or creating financial models?

Please answer the following

1.why is it important to demonstrate ethics and professional integrity when performing financial analyses or creating financial models?

2. Most of us are more familiar with financial statements in a classroom setting than with real financials. Select a company. Each student MUST select a different company. Look up its’ most recent financial statements. Financial statements means the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and Statement of Shareholder’s Equity. Select 3 items from those statements that you understood and 3 that you found hard to understand. Find definitions to the items you are not familiar with – remembering to cite sources.

FYI the company you select will be used to support/respond to other discussion questions this term.

Guidelines: one person per company. Must be a public company traded on an exchange. Must have been public at least two years or at least three years of financial information.

You can use AT&T for your company

Sense of Self

This is a reflection paper

During this course you will be engaging in a practice of reflection. Reflection is key aspect of Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit education, therefore it is intentionally infused into your coursework. Reflection is a cyclical process that can be cultivated into a habit for ongoing personal growth.

The Oliver Sacks reading describes Mr. Thompson, a patient who has Korsakov’s, a disease that is characterized by loss of short-term memory. This reading raises question about the relationship between our bodies and identities (self). We rely on memory and sense perception to identify people and objects, including our sense of self. Your memory, for example, tells you where you were born, who your family is, etc. What happens to our sense of self if these faculties fail us? Are we the same person? Is there a sense of self that remains apart from our faculty losses? If so, what is it? If not, why not?

Craft a reflection, in which you consider Mr. Thompson’s case. Explore whether or not you think Mr. Thompson’s sense of himself can remain stable (or constant) despite the failure of memory. If so, why? If not, why not? Your journal should demonstrate engagement with this week’s readings, however this is the place you can express your engagement by focusing on the aspects of this case you find most interesting, intriguing, or downright strange.

Critically explain Mind-Body Problem

Craft a post in which you first define the mind-body problem and then explain which theory (dualism or physicalism) addresses the problem most convincingly. Explain why you think your chosen theory provides the best explanation. Please provide specific arguments to support your view.
