Child as Mathematical learners

The Child Study is to be informed by a constructivist approach to learning and teaching.

The report will contain an overview of the diagnostic interview and its findings, a summary of the plans for teaching, and an indication of future learning needs.

Choices of tasks, activities, and resources should reflect a sound knowledge of place value and how it should be taught.

Resources to engage learners using Blended Learning in specialist area (as specialist area could be foreign language)

1.1 Explain the purpose of resources in teaching and learning. This should include accessibility, inclusivity, assessment and learning. This should also be used to plan, monitor and review learning

1.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of specific resources in own specialist area in meeting individual learning needs

2.1 Analyse the principles of resource design. This may include hard copy or electronic resources. This should include learning styles and needs, accessibly, inclusivity, appropriate level, equality and diversity principles

2.2 Evaluate sources that inform resource development in own specialist area. The sources should refer to own specialist area and include reference to curricula, qualification standards and course specifications

2.3 Analyse how theories, principles and models of inclusive curriculum design can be used to inform resource development in own specialist area. This should include reference to the teaching and learning cycle, process, product and praxis. Theories may refer to Gardiner, Petty, Kelly and Tyler etc.

2.4 Analyse ways in which resources can be adapted to enable an inclusive approach. This may include enlarged font, colour filters, scribes, readers, hearing loops etc.

2.5 Design resources, including those that involve new and emerging technologies, to engage and meet the individual needs of learners.

2.6 Employ resources to engage and meet the individual needs of learners in own specialist

Publication Review/Analysis

What to do.

For this project, dig deeper into authoritative publications in your field (Cybersecurity, Information and Computer Technology).

In Project 1, the focus was on comparing the form, structure, style, and other features of authoritative texts to popular and trade publications. (Project 1 is attached if needed as a reference)

For this project, the focus will be more on the content and consistency of the authoritative texts to determine more directly what the standards of authoritative publications are.

• Select two authoritative publications in your discipline (may re-use any authoritative sources from Project 1 if you choose).

• Google the most prestigious journals in the field of Cybersecurity, Information and Computer Technology, if you are having trouble deciding on journals to review.

• From there, use the library database to locate and download the most recent issue available. (East Carolina University).

o This means you’ll need to download a bunch of articles that make up an edition or issue. If available, also collect statements from the editors/introductory remarks.

• From there, skim through (don’t read word for word) each of the articles.

• Take notes about the major ideas or themes that appear to be consistent in that edition.

• The review should compare the two publications around the following questions: (Please clearly cover information addressing each question)

o – What are the major topics and research questions being addressed in the journal issues under consideration?

o – What research methodologies are employed to investigate those questions?

o – Does your discipline emphasize qualitative or quantitative research designs?

o – How are research results presented and explained?

o – Does the publication favor individual authorship or collaboration?

• Sources. Again, select two publications. Find the most recent issue or edition that the library has access to. (East Carolina University)

o If that’s issue volume 5, issue 2, download every article that appears in that issue (depending on the journal, this may range from a few to about a dozen individual articles).

o You should skim each of these articles, but cite 2-3 from each publication, for a total of 4-6 cited articles in your review.

Audience. This review will be addressed to an audience that may or may not be well-versed in this discipline (Cybersecurity, Information and Computer Technology), so be aware of excessively technical language or concepts that must be explained.
