Post an explanation of how the difference between statistical significance and the true importance (clinical significance) of the relationship between variables or the degree of difference between groups affect your practice decision making

Research studies often compare variables, conditions, times, and/or groups of participants to evaluate relationships between variables or differences between groups or times. For example, if researchers are interested in knowing whether an intervention produces change in the desired direction, they will want to know whether the change is due to chance (statistical significance) or possibly due to the intervention. In this case, researchers could use a pre and post measurement of the same participants on the condition being treated, or they could compare a group of individuals who receive the intervention to a group that does not receive the intervention. Researchers could also compare two groups of individuals who receive different interventions. The rigor of the research design helps control for other factors that might account for the changes (e.g., time, conditions, group differences in other factors, etc.). To prepare for this Discussion, consider the concept of statistical significance.

· Post an explanation of how the difference between statistical significance and the true importance (clinical significance) of the relationship between variables or the degree of difference between groups affect your practice decision making

Be sure to include an explanation of what statistical significance means.
Include an example from a quantitative study that found statistically significant differences.
· Discuss whether the results of the study would—or should—influence your practice as a social worker.

· Include at least 2 references and citations.

Discuss the moral issues you have identified in terms of two the following: utility, duties, rights.

Complete a Written Case Analysis which will be assessed for depth and breadth. Please read Thinking Critically About Ethical Issues, Case 1, p. 60.

( The Makah tribe claim to have hunted gray whales for more than 2,000 years. They stopped in the 1920s due to the decline in the number of gray whales. Now they want to return to the hunt to provide food for their tribe and to restore the young mens sense of discipline and pride in their traditions. Proponents of the hunt claim that a majority of the tribe support the hunt, which is expected to take fewer than five whales they are permitted by law to kill. Tribal leaders claim that they will take no pregnant or nursing females. Some Makah elders disagree, however, pointing out that the tribe survived for most of the twentieth century without eating whale meat and claiming that they are better ways to instill pride and discipline. The environmental community argues that the whale hunt is immoral because it violates the whales right to exist on the planet. Is it appropriate for nonmembers of the Makah tribe-for example, students in the class-evaluate the morality of the Makah whale hunt? Explain)

Identify the moral issue(s) and the parties involved. Discuss the moral issues you have identified in terms of two the following: utility, duties, rights.

How would you conduct a needs assessment to determine what type of program or training is needed (to improve the nutrition of infants) in this situation?

Joseph is a member of team of trainers, community developers, and nutrition specialist that is currently working in rural Cambodia to develop an educational and action program related to infant and child nutrition. This group is associated with an international nongovernment organization based in Japan. What the team has learned in the three months they have been in Cambodia is that mothers do want their assistance because their children are both undernourished as well as malnourished. In addition, grandmothers and older aunties are the ones who feed the children as the mothers primarily work in the fields during the day, and sometimes into the evening hours. The feeding practices, except for the introduction of bottle feeding for infants, have remained the same over a number of generations. They have also observed, although they do not know why, that there are local food resources (e.g., fruits, potatoes, and plants) that are readily available and even though they are fed to older children, these foods are not given to infants up to two years of age.

How would you conduct a needs assessment to determine what type of program or training is needed (to improve the nutrition of infants) in this situation? What are some of the “contextual” and “cultural” issues you would need to consider in this situation? Be specific.

4. Imagine that you work in a company that is a large multi-national company. You have manufacturing sites in over 15 different countries. The company manufactures components for industrial washing machines. The washing machines clean tents, or big fabric awnings, etc. Since the company started all training has taken place at the corporate office in Cleveland Ohio. The trainings for how to operate all the machines are given to managers, in person, 2 times a year. The managers are then expected to go back to their home office and train the local employees on how to work the very large and very complicated machines. The expansion to locations outside of the United States has only been in the last 10 years. Over the last 10 years not only have there been more than the normal mechanical failures of the machines,, there have been 7 injuries to workers. You have just been hired as the HR Manager. You want to convince the CEO that on line training would be a better alternative than in person training . What would you say to convince the CEO of the benefits of an on-line format? What other types of trainings/transfer of learning/ would you recommend.

7. Juanita wants to demonstrate that she is doing a good job as the new training coordinator for a new safety training program, but she is not sure how to proceed. She works in a company that produces large trailers and other heavy equipment. Her predecessor was on the job for years and ran a rather informal shop; other than a big chart displaying the number of accident-free days for the company, he kept no systematic records on the safety training.

Juanita has access to some figures about the number and types of trainings programs offered, with the number of participants in each program, but the data are incomplete; the figures were not kept for all programs, and there is a great deal of inconsistency in how the figures were gathered and recorded.

Juanita asked her predecessor if there were any evaluation reports about the previous training program, and her predecessor’s response was, “You’ll know if they’re bad, because the trainees or supervisors will tell you.”

Juanita wonders how she can demonstrate that the safety training programs she will be implementing will be doing what they are designed for —lowering the rate and severity of accidents in the plant.

What would you suggest Juanita do to demonstrate that her safety training programs are really making an impact on the actions of the employees and subsequently reducing the numbers and severity of accidents at the plant? Be specific and creative.

8. Rosemarie, who was serving as a keynote speaker for a statewide conference in adult education, had asked the person who was in charge of planning the program to tell her about her audience. Based on these discussions Rosemarie put her speech together, but within the first two minutes of her speech lost the attention of the majority of her audience. What do you think happened? Give two reasons this situation may have happened? What could Rosemary do to improve the situation?

Under what conditions would a person choose the qualitative approach over the quantitative or vice versa when investigating a forensic behavioral science situation?

Quantitative vs. Qualitative Research
The qualitative approach to research involves the collection of extensive amounts of narrative and written data in order to gain insight into an event, occurrence, strategy, or phenomenon. Quantitative research involves the collection of numerical measurement data in order to explain, predict, or control the interest area of research.

Under what conditions would a person choose the qualitative approach over the quantitative or vice versa when investigating a forensic behavioral science situation? When would a mixed-methods design be the best option? Through your research provide examples and support for the points you are making.

Review the points of others and add additional examples, challenging a response or drawing conclusions from the response.

Post your responses in a minimum of 300 words.

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Is this a complementary good, a substitute good, or a non-related good? If there is a relationship, indicate whether the relationship is weak or strong.

Competency

Elasticity, consumer choice, utility, productivity, and nature of costs.

Course Scenario

Oil Company X is a large oil refinery which has been expanding and taking on new investment projects. Recently, they have considered building a pipeline that stretches across the United States, from Canada to New Orleans.

You are a member of the Cost Department. At a recent meeting of the board of directors, it was estimated that the cost of building the pipeline would be two million dollars in total for the production of a 30,000-mile stretch, $5,000 of which is a fixed cost in taxes. They also want you to determine if the currently available alternative energy source is a strong substitute good for oil, which may interfere with expected profits from this venture.

Instructions

As a cost analyst at your firm, you are asked to evaluate the marginal cost of producing the pipeline per 1,000-mile stretch as well as the average total cost of producing the pipeline per 1,000 miles. Submit a 2-page report detailing the cost. Include calculations in your Word document.

You will also include a table showing the final figures for the following costs:

Total Fixed Cost
Total Variable Cost
Average Variable Cost
Average Fixed Cost
Marginal Cost
Please use this included Excel Cost Spreadsheet to calculate your costs.

Be sure to also include a calculation of the cross-price elasticity of the alternative energy source and oil. Assume the current price of oil is $50/gallon. If the price increases to $55/gallon of crude oil, the quantity demanded of the alternative energy source increases by 20%.

Is this a complementary good, a substitute good, or a non-related good? If there is a relationship, indicate whether the relationship is weak or strong. Justify your answer with an explanation.

Examine the factors that account for why the growth in the world’s population can negatively affect global society

Threats to the Global Environment

Congratulations! The United Nations has hired you as a consultant on global issues.

Many of the UN members are not satisfied with the progress of the Millennium Development Goals. They feel that the goals focus on the wrong issues. There is a disconnect between what issues the UN developed countries believe are priorities and what many developing countries feel the prioritized issues should be. For example, the country of Burundi has asked that one of the goals be focused on food security. Austria, however, is adamant that the major current global issue is to mediate ceasefires in countries in the midst of a civil war.

You have been asked to provide an unbiased perspective and identify the four issues you feel most impact the global environment. You will present your findings at the next UN General Assembly. Your goal is to provide a history of each issue, the number of countries affected, and the effects of this threat to the world population.

Of the eight major threats listed below, choose the four that you consider the most critical.

Energy sources

Civil war

Globalization

Poor health of entire populations

Lack of educational opportunities

Cultural taboos

Inappropriate uses of technology

Climate change

For your presentation to the United Nations:

Develop a minimum of four slides per issue for a minimum total of 16 slides.
Provide at least a paragraph on each slide (in the notes section) to explain the reason this information is relevant to the UN’s assessment.
To review how to do any of the required assignment deliverables in PowerPoint, please refer to your Lynda.com account or reach out to your instructor ahead of time.
For each issue, create a graph or chart to analyze the data you have collected.
Cite at least five credible sources excluding Wikipedia, dictionaries, and encyclopedias.
This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different compared to other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review ?the SWS documentation for details. (Note: You’ll be prompted to enter your Blackboard login credentials to view these standards.)
