Critically evaluate strategy statements in terms of their ability to incorporate internationalization, ethics, sustainability, or inclusivity

Strategy as Practice Perspective Essay
1. Critically evaluate strategy statements in terms of their ability to incorporate
internationalization, ethics, sustainability, or inclusivity
Tasks
You are required to provide a 1,000-word individual essay critically evaluating the strategy
statement you developed in the first report assessment. The evaluation itself involves
critiquing it from either the perspective of internationalization, ethics, sustainability, and
inclusivity.
In order to decide which aspect to focus on having a look at your strategy statement and see
what is missing:
● If internationalization, ethics, sustainability and inclusivity are missing then you can
choose to focus on any ONE of those four topics
● If your strategy statement already covers one topic (e.g. internationalization) then you
can choose from any ONE of the other three (e.g. ethics, sustainability or inclusivity)
● If your strategy statement already covers two (e.g. internationalization and ethics)
then you and choose ONE from the remaining two topics (e.g. sustainability or
inclusivity)
● If your strategy statement already covers three topics (e.g. ethics, internationalization
and sustainability) then you must focus on the ONE remaining area (e.g. inclusivity)
● In the unlikely event that your strategy statement covers all four areas then you
simply pick the topic that has the least emphasis on it.
Once the topic has been chosen, you then critically evaluate the limits of your own strategy
statement in that area using the literature to help you.
When writing the essay you may structure it in the following way:
Introduction A clear and concise section that reintroduces the original strategy
statement introduces the topic that is the focus of the essay and outlines
the structure of the essay.
Main Body A section that critically examines the strategy statement in terms of the
topic being explored. This section will highlight the limits of the
strategy statement in addressing the chosen topic. For example, if
looking at inclusivity this section will highlight the implications for the
organization’s strategy resulting from not having inclusivity in the
strategy statement and what might the benefits be of including it.
Throughout the literature will be used to develop depth in the critical
evaluation.
Revised Strategy In this section the student will revise the strategy statement in light of
Statement the evaluation made in the main body demonstrating the links to the
main body and showing the differences from the original strategy
statement.

Fully describe the overall concepts of homeland security and homeland defense. Construct a response that provides the following related to both homeland security and homeland defense

Instructions

Drawing upon resource material provided and that discovered while conducting your own research, answer the following:

Fully describe the overall concepts of homeland security and homeland defense. Construct a response that provides the following related to both homeland security and homeland defense:

  • Primary missions, tasks, responsibilities, operations, etc. for:
    • Homeland Security and
    • Homeland Defense.
  • Highlight those areas that are shared between the two (what overlaps between HLS and HLD?)
  • Lastly, recommend a definition for homeland security.

Using the overarching themes of the National Security Strategy from 2017, provide your own recommendation for new National Strategy for Counterterrorism (it must be nested under the NSS according to the principle of strategic hierarchy). What key elements and focus areas would you suggest for the part of a new CT strategy that is domestic focused (homeland security, not overseas), and make sure to use the Ends, Ways, and Means strategy framework.

Note: You should be aware of the fact that “homeland security” is made up of much more than just DHS. That agency is only one part of a larger Homeland Security Enterprise that includes [DHS] Departmental leaders and components [the 7 field agencies including USCG, CBP, ICE, USSS, etc], state, local, tribal, territorial and private sector partners and others. Also remember there are many other essential federal agencies that play a role in HLS, such as the very important DOJ where the FBI is the lead agency for countering terrorism in the US (not DHS).

Technical Requirements
  • Your paper must be at a minimum of 5-7 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit).

As you become more familiar with the content of this course, you will be asked to consider how disability is conceptualized in your academic discipline and/or professional field. You will focus on how, within your discipline, disability is
defined as a problem, and what ‘solutions’ are offered to this problem. For instance, students in nutrition may look at the issue of ‘obesity.’ Early Childhood Education (ECE) students may want to explore how children with behavioral issues are presented in their courses and classroom experience.
