BSHS 408 Week 5 Ethical Issues Associated With the Human Service Professional
This assignment included two references, but nothing in the presentation was cited to coincide with the references. That is not APA format. I don’t understand how this paper got 5/5 points unless the instructor didn’t care about APA formatting. Also the slide about Ethical Issues does not explain much about the three ethical issues required. It gives a couple sentences about each and that’s it, but not much detail or explanation, more like rambling. Not happy.

The presentation was okay as it covered all points, but did it in a different way. The three ethical issues were supposed to be discussed in the beginning of the presentation and the rest of the bullets were supposed to pertain to those ethical issues. In this presentation they covered the two bullets in general and didn’t include the ethical issues in those bullets. Overall it was an okay quality presentation.

(2020) discuss 54 related law enforcement stressors that police can go through in their career.ÿ They break down different types of stress based on positions within the job.ÿ Examples would be that crime scene observation, excessive calls for service, and angry civilians while also home issues that law enforcement focuses on, like protecting one?s family at work and away from home.ÿ With so many possible stressors, officers must find ways to deal with these stresses before the problem becomes persistent.ÿ
Options for assisting officers with early stress management techniques include the officer seeking help before it is necessarily needed (Territo & Sewell, 2019).ÿ Seeking help can be from various sources but talking to someone about work is critical.ÿ The authors tell us that talking to someone about spiritual help or having someone outside of the law enforcement job to talk to can help individuals dealing with stress on the job.ÿ This approach can be considered pre-maintenance as seeking early stress management through talking to a friend, family member, or religious figure can place individuals in the sight of the officers helping not only to talk about work but see signs that further issues may be arising.ÿ Territo and Sewell continue by saying that resilience is essential in preparing for stressful situations.ÿ Arming themselves with the ability to deal with stress is just as crucial as handling stress when it arrives.ÿ A positive culture where officers feel free to talk about their problems while also working in an agency that promotes wellness can help protect the officers.ÿ Being physically prepared for stressors that arise is also an acceptable practice in dealing with stress.ÿ The authors say that being physically fit gives the officers more strength to deal with the bad things that happen to them on the job, which can also help them mentally.ÿ
Law enforcement has become a more understanding area of work when considering the mental health of those who work in the field, which shows that law enforcement understands the change needed in understanding mental health (Duxbury et al., 2021).ÿ Things must continue to evolve, and new studies and methods of understanding can help improve the system more.ÿ However, it takes researchers to determine possibilities working with law enforcement and mental health professionals to find possibilities.ÿ
