Explain how Plato and Aristotle differ in terms of the relationship between sensibility and knowledge and how this difference can be seen today.

Explain how Plato and Aristotle differ in terms of the relationship between sensibility and knowledge and how this difference can be seen today. Be sure to include how each thinker treats sensibility and how this account impacts their view on the source of knowledge. Provide contemporary examples to emphasize this distinction. The purpose of this paper is to provide a strong analysis of Plato and Aristotle through their views on sensibility and knowledge. Since both philosophers had fairly different views on both of these issues, analyzing this point helps to see each philosopher in greater clarity. This does NOT mean simply restating their views. Rather, use their views to further clarify the difference in their philosophies and how it impacts our understanding of the relationship between sensibility, knowledge, and truth. Examples of contemporary issues that might be worth considering can be scientific (vaccines, epidemics, evolution, etc.), societal (‘fake news,’ conspiracy theories, etc.), or any thing else you might find relates to the discussion. The specific contemporary issue you select is up to you; however, I always recommend writing about an issue in which you are interested. Philosophic writing is difficult and demanding – it is an easier task to complete if you make it matter to you.

What types of sources will you seek?

Introduction: Create a proposal for a piece of original and meaningful research based upon the following research prompt. Please note that we are not writing a research paper. We are writing a research proposal. This semester, our proposal will be an extension of what we started with Essay #3. Required References: At least two works from the following list: “Allegory of the Cave” The Communist Manifesto The Matrix (1999) Prompt: Conduct a comprehensive critical analysis using your works from the Required References section of this assignment as well as at least 8 other sources, ultimately demonstrating how your sources clarify or illuminate a recent event or crisis. Requirements: The proposal project should include the following 3 sections: Introduction: This section should be a 250 word (minimum) description of your proposed research topic, including your hypothesis. Why is your research important? How does it expand/extend current research? What do you suspect the outcome of your research to be? Methodology: This section will be brief, likely one page only (250 words, perhaps even less), and will detail your approach to this topic. What types of sources will you seek? Why is your approach the most appropriate way to go about your research? Annotated works cited: This will be a list of potential sources for your proposed research. The list should be at least 10 sources long. Your selections from the required texts will be among these 10 sources. In other words, you only need to find 8 additional sources, which need not all be from our periodical databases. For each work cited entry, you should include a brief (3+ sentences) summary of the source and another brief (3+ sentences) explanation of how you expect the source to be useful to your research. Example: (Attached) Please note that this sample is much longer than your final project will likely be. I include it here merely to demonstrate the format of the finished project.

Discuss the various roles nurses can play that support the real image of nursing.

Topic of this week: The media portray many images of nursing, some favorable and some unfavorable. Does media portrayal of nursing affect how patients perceive nurses as authority figures? Why or why not? Think about nursing stereotypes and discuss the ways you can influence the public image of nursing. Discuss the various roles nurses can play that support the real image of nursing. Think about community health care and preventive services for all, but especially the underserved. Discuss the answer of two of your classmates. Classmate 1: Does media portrayal of nursing affect how patients perceive nurses as authority figures? Why or why not? Think about nursing stereotypes and discuss the ways you can influence the public image of nursing. I believe that the media does portray nurses very different than what they really are. This is whether it comes to the news or when it comes to fictional shows or movies. Many of the time they do not show all the work that nurses really have to put in within just one shift. In fictional movies and shows a lot of the skills that nurses perform were portrayed as the physician doing them. Which is unrealistic because the physicians do not do wound care, they do not start lines or administer medications, etc. The only time where nurses were really given the credit they deserved was throughout the pandemic. They were showing how they were suffering through staffing shortages, unfair assignments and lack of resources. One of the most important things now is the direct access that everyone has to social media. Nurses were able to use their platforms and speak up about what really goes on in the day of a nurse and the struggles they face on the day to day. Discuss the various roles nurses can play that support the real image of nursing. Think about community health care and preventive services for all, but especially the undeserved. One the many roles as a nurse is to be an educator. By educating on the importance of health processes and maintenance they are serving as an advocate for health. (Godsey et al., 2020) This pandemic brought about many education opportunities when it came to prevention of acquiring coronavirus, the importance of being vaccinated, and much more. By exposing the world through what a nurse goes through and witnesses amongst their patients they use it as a learning and teaching experience for the community. We are living in a world where nursing and technology is constantly evolving and we are able to show the world the reality of the healthcare system. References Godsey, J. A., Houghton, D. M., & Hayes, T. (2020). Registered nurse perceptions of factors contributing to the inconsistent brand image of the nursing profession. Nursing outlook, 68(6), 808–821. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.outlook.2020.06.005 Classmate 2: Does media portrayal of nursing affect how patients perceive nurses as authority figures? Why or why not? Think about nursing stereotypes and discuss the ways you can influence the public image of nursing. The nursing profession’s image is extremely important. It is how others, particularly the general public, view the profession. Nurses can be influenced by their image, and if people perceive them negatively, they may feel dissatisfied or less successful. In TV shows, movies, literature, and other forms of media, nurses are regularly portrayed in stereotypically inaccurate ways. These misrepresentations give a severely distorted picture of nursing’s role in patient care, leading to actual patients misunderstanding the essential role nurses play in their care. Participating in media training and completing interviews can help nurses strengthen their messaging. They can reach a broader audience by combining traditional and new media. Discuss the various roles nurses can play that support the real image of nursing. Think about community health care and preventive services for all, but especially the underserved. Nurses’ key role in promoting the profession’s genuine image is to be ambassadors for our patients’ health and well-being, particularly those from underserved communities. Patient education and illness management are two more important nursing responsibilities that can have a big impact on the profession’s reputation. Additional ways nurses may assist the nursing image include teaching conflict resolution skills, improving communication, and encouraging team building. Nurses can influence public perception of their profession by attending local events, reaching out to local media who cover health care, and presenting as experts on healthcare trends. Barnett, D. How gullible do you think the American public is and what can we do about it?

If you blink, you’ll miss this supposed sighting of the New Jersey Devil in the video below. There’s no sound with it, just a flash of something and a claim that it may be the Jersey Devil or a prank. Or it may be something else. Critical thinking can certainly be of some help with this and should definitely weigh in on the claim. Because if good thinkers don’t, you can imagine what would come next with a video like this on social media. “Jersey Devil confirmed!” “Actual citing of the Jersey Devil caught on video!” We can all imagine the headlines. But would those headlines be true? That is what you need to determine in your assignment this week. The first thing to do is view the video. You might even pause it at times to get a good look. Find at least two credible sources (this may be hard) about what the Jersey Devil is supposed to be, and then read the section in the chapter entitled “Making Weird Mistakes”. Use those mistaken ideas to see if the claims you have found about the Jersey Devil are actually misleading and fall into the trap of sloppy thinking. Then provide your considered point of view about the Jersey Devil. This exercise has broader implications than the New Jersey Devil. What do you think of social media sites that routinely use this sort of material to entice viewers with questionable and sensationalist material? Yes, they are out to sell these materials to make money for themselves and advertisers, but what do they do to the average viewers who may not critically assess what they are shown? How gullible do you think the American public is and what can we do about it? Create a Word document for your paper which should be double-spaced, 1 1/2 to 2 pages. Provide MLA citations for your sources, and then submit the paper above. Watch video to answer questions.

What steps have been taken to improve the lack of transparency in the US healthcare system?

Topic of this week: Consider a patient centered issue you have observed recently. Formulate a research question related to that issue. Identify the independent and dependent variable, hypothesis and type of hypothesis. What type of research study design would you use to address that issue, what type of sampling or sampling strategy would you use? Defend your choices with support from your textbook or other peer-reviewed journal source. Discuss the answer of two of your classmates: Classmate 1: Patient-related issues include avoidable medical errors, a lack of transparency, trouble finding skilled physicians, nurse or physician shortages, and so on. My research would focus on the impact of lack of transparency on healthcare. Recognizing that this has been a long-standing problem in our healthcare system, the first question that comes to mind is: “What steps have been taken to improve the lack of transparency in the US healthcare system? The hypothesis, in contrast to the current scenario, would be: “The general public can only expect improved health outcomes if the healthcare system is honest about its processes and operations. Simultaneously, if the lack of transparency persists, the public may face even more negative effects. An experimental strategy could be employed in a process of research and analysis of the subject at hand, employing a simple random sampling of patients from a public hospital. For instance, divide participants into two groups. The independent variable would be one of the groups. This group would receive education and training on all aspects of the issue, including sharing information with the public about billing, deductibles, price, access, and so on. The 2nd group, or the controlled group, would get no education or training. After that, an evaluation can be done to analyze the data and gather the results, which represent the dependent variable, by evaluating how the education provided improved or changed the way the patients understand and manage their health, as well as any improvements obtained in comparison to the control group. Suggestions for how to tackle the problem can be offered in the conclusion as examples and guidance. “It is vital that we help people find the best medicine for them at a price they can afford. Transparency can also be cultivated by developing trustworthy relationships, cultivating a learning culture, and encouraging open communication.” (McLeod,2018). Bauer, K. (2020). (2015). Healthcare Fraud, 93–96 Classmate 2: One patient-centered issue I have been observing lately is the emotional support and alleviation of fear patients need. It is very important to provide the best health care possible. Medical experts need to have great communication with the patients so they can feel protected and that they are under the supervision of the correct people. My research question is, How important is providing emotional support and anxiety alleviation to patients? The independent variable is the connection the nurses have with the patients and the dependent variable is the happiness and comfort of the patient. The better the communication and understanding between the health care provider and the patient the less anxiety and emotional support the patient will need. The hypothesis to my research question is if health care workers provide the best emotional support to the patients, they will feel an alleviation of anxiety. The type of hypothesis is a simple hypothesis because it shows the relationship between one dependent variable and a single independent variable. The type of study and research design would be a systematic review. Systematic identifies the focus of a study and a specific topic (Kapoor, 2016). I belive stratified sampling would be best for this research study because I am able to have a more persice answer on how important emotional support is for the patients and how it can change their lives. Stratified sampling involves dividing the popution into subpopulation for example a group of patients who receive lack of communication and emotional support and the other group does receive these supports. This will allow the researcher to identify better how much can it impact a patient. References Hein, E. C., & Leavitt, M. B. (1982). Providing Emotional Support to Patients. How do all of these various topics connect to create a unified world?

At this point, we should have all read one of the versions of Romeo and Juliet shared in this module. After having read and familiarizing yourself with the story, characters, and themes, follow the guidelines below to share your vision were you to direct this play. The Basics: This paper should be written as a formal essay in MLA format. It should be typed, double spaced, with proper grammar and spelling. It should be 1000 words total (~4 pages). Guidelines: Please discuss the following topics throughout your paper. Each topic should be covered in 1-2 paragraphs. Some paragraphs may be longer/shorter than others just depending on how it strikes you. There is not a “right or wrong” answer as it may be different for each individual. Just be sure that you discuss your thoughts/opinions on each topic fully and with as much specificity as possible. Here are the topics to be covered: 1. Logistics. What are the logistical elements that you would need to consider if directing this piece? How many characters are present in the play? How many locations are present in the play (i.e. outside, Juliet’s house, etc)? What are the “major events” that occur during the play and what are their needs (i.e. weddings, funerals, fights)? 2. Themes. What themes stand out to you in this story? Why? Are any of these themes relatable to a modern-day audience? Do any of these themes present challenges for a modern-day audience? Why or why not? 3. Significance. Why could this be an important story to be told? (Whether or not you personally love a scriipt, if you’ve been hired to direct it, you must ask yourself “why this story” and find something in it that the audience can gleam.) What might the audience be able to take away from this story if it’s done well? How might it help an audience member to grow, learn, or empathize? 4. Vision. How might you see this story being told in the most effective and/or interesting way? What time period would you set it in? Why? What color palette do you see the world of the play in (bright, dark, neutral, etc)? Why? What region would it work best in (be specific: “Paris”, “Atlanta, GA” or “Central Park” are very different places) and why? 5. Technical. What would you ask your design team to consider with your concept in mind? Would you like a “fully realized” set with all of the bells and whistles? Or would you ask your Set Designer to see what they can do creatively with “representational” set pieces? Do you think the characters in the play need multiple costume changes throughout? Or would you ask your costume designer to create one “look” for each character, and perhaps they just add pieces from there? What kind of sound do you think would best serve the play? Do you want the Sound Designer to consider modern day music for transitions? Or music from different time periods? Lyrics or purely instrumental? Consider what guidance and/or direction you would offer your production team on the first meeting with technical elements in mind. Remember, you want to give them the freedom to create as well as an idea of what will help unify the world. 6. Overall. What are your overall thoughts about the play? What do you expect to be some challenges while directing it? Why? What do you think will be some of the exciting parts about working on this piece? Why? 7. Marketing. When describing your production of Romeo and Juliet (or what you hope it will be), how would you sell it to a friend? How would you describe it to a stranger? How might you help the Marketing Team at the theatre help understand how they can best pitch it to potential audience members? What about your production will be special? 8. Closing. What is most exciting to you about getting to “direct” this production? How do all of these various topics connect to create a unified world? What are the final thoughts you’d like to share in the summary of your vision or concept?
