Response Paper 2 on chapter 2Due: Feb 20, 2015, 11:59 PM
Chapter 2;
Since this chapter is theory- based, we try to understand how to gather information. Many techniques have been described in your text book, but as it is a practical assignment, it has been made simple to carry out.ÿThick descriptionÿis an intense method of describing everyday activity. In this experiment, you have to observe and describe verbal and non- verbal communication. In the initial ten – fifteen minutes of your fieldwork, listen to ( eavesdrop on) a conversation whose participants you can’t see. It could be any public place, like a restaurant, park, bus- stop; close enough to hear them but not see them. The next step is to observe from far a conversation you can’t hear, like on the other side of the road, or the far end of your campus parking lot.Though you can see them but cannot hear them and yet try to understand the exchange taking place.
Now, after carrying out this activity, comes the written work and the tough part. Write an essay of 300 – 600 words, giving clear details of both the interactions that you observed. Include a description of the participants and the setting in which you observed them. Put in your ideas about what you thought was happening and if you know anything about them. Support your findings with whatever you saw or heard. Further details on page 50 of your text book.

Discussion 6.1
Read the following scenario and provideÿprovide a viable resolutionÿ based on FMLA.
One of your nurses, Betty, displayed signs of depression, such as crying openly at work in front of staff and residents. One of her co-workers even reported to the nursing home’s administrator that Betty was becoming increasingly depressed and being overworked to the point of exhaustion. Betty became ill with diarrhea after her three consecutive shift days and called in sick for two days. On the second day, Betty informed her boss that she was also experiencing vomiting and chest pains, and was going to see her physician. The physician diagnosed Betty with clinical depression, prescribed Prozac, and advised her to take a medical leave of absence from work for two months.
Betty advised her boss that her doctor told her to stay home for two months. Betty did not disclose her clinical diagnosis, did not ask for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave, and did not ask for leave as a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Betty’s boss required her to produce a medical certification from her physician regarding her condition. Betty indicated that her physician was away for the holidays and would not be back for three weeks.
Two weeks later, Betty received a termination letter stating that she was being fired for failing to submit a medical certificate within 15 days of requesting leave. As a result, her leave request was being denied and her failure to come to work was being deemed a voluntary resignation.
This story was brought to your attention as the HR professional after Betty’s termination letter was sent. Now what? Remember that your resolution must be based on FMLA guidelines.

ihp 340 module three short paper guidelines and rubric overview:

The following scenario and corresponding Figure 2.58 are provided below. The website TED.com offers free short presentations called TED Talks fastessayy.com , which cover a variety of interesting subjects. One of the talks is titled The Happy Planet Index. In it, Nic Marks comments that we regularly measure and report economic data on countries, such as gross national product, when we really ought to be measuring the well-being of the people in the countries. He calls this measure ?Happiness,? and the larger the number in a country, the greater the level of happiness, health, and well-being. In addition, Marks believes we ought to be measuring the ecological footprint per capita of the country, with larger numbers indicating greater use of resources (such as gas and electricity) and more damage to the planet. Both variables are quantitative (continuous). Figure 2.58 Prompt: For this short paper assignment, complete the following:
ÿ1. For the graph, interpret what the graph is telling us about happiness and ecological footprint, as described above.ÿ
2. Estimate and provide a range (minimum to maximum value), with a width no more than 0.2, for where you think the correlation statistic falls and support your decision with an explanation of the data points you see. Note: You are being asked to estimate the correlation statistic, you do not have to calculate the exact value.
ÿ3. What could affect the size of the correlation statistic? a. In regard to the actual data points (hint: what are we assuming about the data?)ÿ
b. In regard to how the variables were measured (i.e., what information is used to define them, as well as other potential information not considered?)ÿ
Rubric Guidelines for Submission: Submit your paper as a Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. References are not required. The point of this paper is to show how well you interpret a scatterplot and correlation. However, if you do provide information from a published resource, be sure to cite and reference it. The job ad that discrimina

The job ad that Discrimina created to encourage legal immigrants to apply for jobs was successful. Three new machine operators are immigrants from Mexico , all who speak some English as a second language to their Spanish. They all have Vo-Tech training and are considered excellent employees. They are Luis, Carlo, and Benito. Luis, one of the new employees, is married to Juana, an immigrant from Guatemala , who is very good with numbers. She was hired part-time to assist Eunice with inventory control and clerical tasks. After she started, Juana complained that the other two Mexican men were calling her names. Eunice is normally the only supervisor around when the name calling takes place, and she does not speak Spanish. Juana has asked for an English only policy and Eunice thinks it might be illegal to do that. Questions How should Eunice solve this problem? How might the case of Garcia v. Spun Steak Company provide guidelines to resolve some of the issues?

When conducting forensic assessments, it is important for forensic

When conducting forensic assessments, it is important for forensic mental health professionals to have a thorough understanding of the following:

Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct Including 2010 Amendments
Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychology: Adopted by APA Council of Representatives

Ethical issues are commonly present when completing forensic assessments. Read the scenario below and discuss the ethical issues therein.
Dr. Smith was contacted by the District County Attorney’s office to evaluate Mr. Doe as part of a sexually violent predator civil commitment hearing. Dr. Smith agreed to complete the evaluation and contacted the prison facility, where Mr. Doe was being held, to schedule an appointment.
Upon arrival at the prison, Mr. Doe’s attorney indicated that he wanted to be present for the interview and psychological testing. Dr. Smith agreed, and they proceeded with the interview. During the interview, while discussing his sex offense history, Mr. Doe admitted to offending against two adult females. He also reported offending against his three-year-old daughter. He indicated that his relationship with his wife, although rocky at times, is generally supportive. Upon inquiry, he reported a history of domestic abuse, which was never reported. He explained that due to his arrest and incarceration, his wife has had to find a job to be able to continue to afford their housing. He reported that he previously worked as a general maintenance worker at a local trucking company. He explained that he cheated on his wife with a coworker, who has since stopped all communication. He indicated that this coworker used to visit and send him letters and money when he was first “locked up.” He reported that he was angry that she ceased all communication, without explanation, and spoke of her with rage and hostility. He said, “If I ever see her again, I’ll kill her.”
During the administration of the psychological tests, Mr. Doe asked to use the restroom once and was provided another five-minute break. There was a great deal of background noise throughout the interview and administration. On two occasions, Mr. Doe asked his attorney how he should answer the question. He was advised, and he answered as such. Upon the completion of testing, Dr. Smith thanked Mr. Doe and his attorney for their time and indicated that he would see them in court.
If released, Mr. Doe will return to his home with his wife and two daughters. He has reported to the prison staff that he will also return to his previous job and may enroll in vocational classes at an area community college.
Tasks:
As a forensic mental health professional, discuss the ethical issues in the scenario. Refer to the following resources:

Identify the appropriate APA ethical code(s) and the specialty guidelines that may apply to this scenario.
Examine the limits of confidentiality. How might those limits be affected by some of the information contained in the scenario?
Discuss specific circumstances in the case study in which there might be a duty to report or duty to warn.
Explain the limitations of what the evaluator can and cannot say.
Discuss the implications of the third-party observer to the overall evaluation.
