SUMMARY

In addition, time as a dancer has also given me an illustrious and creative mindset for the arts that bleeds into other aspects of my life as well, giving me a passionate connection to my culture and an artistically unique perspective on the challenges and projects I pursue in life.

Writing Questions

Your first task

First Steps

The first thing you will need to do for this module is to identify an area or topic to explore. This should be something relevant to your area of work, and an issue where you feel you want to use evidence to identify best practice. If you can you could make it relevant to other modules you are studying.

You will then need to do an initial review of the literature and determine the question you want to ask.

PICO

nThis is a mnemonic used to describe the four elements of a good question.

nP = Patient/population/problem

nI = Intervention/indicator

nC = Comparison/control

nO = Outcome

Patient, population, problem

nPatient or group (gender, race, age)

nDisease or condition

nStage of illness

nCare setting

Intervention

nType of treatment (drug, procedure, therapy)

nIntervention level (dosage, frequency)

nStage of intervention (prevention, early, advanced)

nDelivery (who delivers the intervention? Where?)

Comparison

nAlternative interventions (standard treatment, placebo. Another intervention)

nThere may not always be a comparison

Outcome

nThe outcome or effects you are interested in, for example

nImprovement of symptoms, healing

nSide effects

nImproved quality of life

nCost effectiveness and benefits for the service provider
Example1

What evidence is there to support maggot therapy for the treatment of pressure ulcers rather than conventional debridement therapies?

nP = pressure ulcers (problem)

nI = maggot therapy (proposed intervention)

nC = conventional debridement therapies (comparative treatment)

nO = wound healing (outcome)

Please answer ONE of the following questions:

Question 1

‘Traditionally, it has been assumed that international business communities seek to avoid the courts. However, the national courts play a prominent role in adjudicating disputes involving derivatives. The decisions by the English courts demonstrate that adjudication does not necessarily undermine widely used standard form contracts (ISDA MASTER AGREEMENT 2002), and that it may even reinforce practices that underpin them.’ J Braithwaite, ‘Standard Form Contracts as Transnational Law: Evidence from the Derivatives Markets’ (2012) 75(5) Modern Law Review 779–805 Critically evaluate the above statement as to how courts’ decisions affect the ISDA Master Agreement 2002.

Question 2

International bond issuance is very different from the operation of a syndicate of international banks in international loan markets, although in economic terms both types of financial transaction involve borrowing money from savers for financial purposes. Critically discuss parties’ roles involve in an international bond issue as well as the legal documentation involved.

Question 3

Eurodollar bonds are typically referring to the U.S dollar denominated bonds that are issued in jurisdictions outside United States. To issue U.S dollar denominated bonds or securities in the U.S, the LEICESTER LAW SCHOOL U.S Securities Act 1933 requires the issuer-entity to file the registration statement under section 5. However, the SEC has long issued a safe harbour procedure for those non-U.S s5 registered entities to issue U.S dollar denominated bond outside U.S without being prosecuted by the SEC. Critically discuss the safe harbour (including s144) procedure for the U.S dollar denominated bond issued in London.

Question 4

A credit derivative is arguably similar to an insurance contract in its economic function to transfer risk and hence it is at risk of being characterised as an insurance contract. Critically discuss the statement

Question 5

It is undoubtedly true that any receivables can be repackaged through the process of securitisation as a means to raise finance from the public. To what degree do you agree with the statement and critically discuss the process of securitization, the parties to a securitization process and the legal risks of securitization.

Question 6

With the implementation of EMIR in the U.K and Europe, the OTC derivatives are now highly regulated both in terms of the operation and the product like other exchange-traded derivatives (commodity derivatives). Critically discuss the statement

Description

Operations Strategy essay including critical analysis and evaluation regarding Mcdonalds and another fast food company whilst using operations strategy theory

Operations Strategy Assignment

You are to write an essay on the following:

McDonalds has come to epitomise the ‘fast-food’ industry. When the company started in the 1950’s it was the first to establish itself in the market. Now there are hundreds of ‘fast-food’ brands in the market competing in different ways. Examples of fast-food chains are companies such as Burger King, KFC, Dominos, Subway. These companies generally offer a counter service often supplemented by an eat-in area. Examples of other companies in the sector are Nandos, Pizza Express and Starbucks. Expensive restaurants would not be appropriate for analysis as they are not in the same market segment.

Using the Hill methodology for operations strategy formulation conduct the following analysis for a typical McDonald’s restaurant in the UK and one other company in the fast-food sector as defined in the previous paragraph. For each company deduce what you believe to be its competitive factors (order winning and qualifying). Translate these factors into performance objectives for operations. Discuss the strategic fit for each company between its performance objectives and its operations structure and infrastructure. Finally provide a comparison regarding the fit across the 2 companies.

Assessment Criteria

  • The assessment requires an evaluation of the strategic fit for 2 companies. The strategic fit is the match between market requirements and operations structure and infrastructure.
  • There should be an evaluation of the relative strategic fit of the two companies.
  • The evaluation should come from both an analysis of the company’s operations and relevant theory regarding operations strategy.
  •
No primary data collection required
  • Essential Reading: the articles/chapters listed below should be viewed as core or essential readings that may act as a start point as you prepare to tackle this assignment: Greasley, A. (2013) Operations Management, 3rd Edition, John Wiley & Sons.

You will need to pick 2 or 3 structural and 2 or 3 infrastructural for each of your companies in your assignment for the analysis. These are suggested structural and infrastructural areas:(number in bracket relates to book chapter in set text – Greasley, A. (2013) Operations Management, 3rd Edition, John Wiley & Sons.)

Structural (“What needs to be in place”)

Process Type (chapter 3)

Layout Type (chapter 4)

Supply Network Design (chapter 5) Long-Term Capacity Planning (5) Facility Location (5)

Process technology (chapter 6)

Infrastructural (“What is needed to operate the system”)

Product and Service Design (chapter 7)

Process Design (chapter 8)

Job Design (chapter 9)

Operations Planning and Control (chapter 10)

Capacity Management (chapter 11)

CRIM 290 S22N01 OP-ED ASSIGNMENT 1 CRIM 290 S22N01 OP-ED ASSIGNMENT (Worth 25%)

Objective: To demonstrate knowledge and critical thinking about Canadian systems and organizations that are engaged in some capacity with conflict either by helping to resolve conflicts or by contributing to additional conflict. What do I have to do?

You will write an Op-Ed style essay related to some specific aspect of conflict in Canada. What is an Op-Ed? An op-ed is a newspaper article that is brief and expresses the opinions of a named writer who is unaffiliated with the newspaper. Such articles are typically written by an expert, often in response to a specific article or broadly circulated news item. The objectives of op-eds are to persuade readers toward a solution or action; to stimulate community discussion and public debate; and to educate the public about an issue the author views as important. This Assignment For this assignment, your op-ed should be between 750-1000 words. In your op-ed, you will argue for a course of action or a better understanding of the topic you have chosen that relates to systems or organizations that either contribute to less conflict or exacerbate / escalate existing conflicts. You should propose a solution or charge of action for your reader so that they understand what you are proposing. The basic layout is like this: Introduction: Tell the reader what the topic is that you are going to address and include a clear and compelling claim. Body: Demonstrate that you understand the issue by explaining it thoroughly along with any underlying causes or dimensions. Make a case for a course of action or potential path that offers to improve the situation. Be sure to balance facts with opinion. You may wish to reference concepts from your textbook or course readings here along with other sources. However, do NOT use in-text citations for the op-ed. Instead, you can refer to them in your writing (as is done in a newspaper) and use a separate Reference section at the end of your op-ed for your sources. Conclusion: Make the conclusion powerful or provocative with a compelling charge to the reader. Tips for Good Op-Eds: To nail this assignment, the following tips are offered: • Try to offer a fresh perspective (do not mimic or copy actual existing op-eds) • Write clearly and succinctly as words are limited so you do not have the luxury of including a lot of background information. • Strive to be persuasive. CRIM 290 S22N01 OP-ED ASSIGNMENT 2 • Use a lively writing style and insert provocative words to make your point. o Take responsibility for your statements about what should be done: “I believe that…” (because for this assignment, you are the “expert”) • Identify what you believe the underlying cause of the problem is, if possible. • Try to find a hook to draw readers in early. Ideally, the title or first section will grab the reader’s attention. • Chose words carefully to ensure you are not alienating people who might disagree with you. Ask yourself “would someone who disagrees with me keep reading this?” • Read other op-ed articles to see how they vary. • Edit your piece carefully to ensure that it is free of mistakes. Read it out loud to yourself before submitting, and, if possible, have a friend review it for readability and understanding. • Use statistics and relevant research to buoy your claims and give yourself credibility (remember you are an “expert”!) • Count your words – this essay has a maximum limit of 1000 words. • Finish strongly by summarizing your argument(s) and including a memorable closing statement. • Do not be afraid to reiterate what you believe could/should be done next. • Use language that is accessible to the public (for this assignment). • Do not use in-text citation. Instead, use a separate reference page if you rely on sources for information. • Once you know the specific about your topic, you can monitor news related to it by setting up a Google alert.

What should Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi do to address the company’s poor reputation? How can he instill an ethical culture in this hard-charging startup

Description

Read MiniCase 12: Uber: Ethically Most Challenged Tech Company? (pp. 511-515) and answer the following question in an APA style paper, using calculations where necessary to provide support. Your answers for the case should be double-spaced, using Times New Roman (12) font. Citations or references are required. You need to answer the following questions: Would you like to work for Uber? Why or why not? Do you agree with Peter Thiel’s assessment that Uber is the “most ethically challenged company in Silicon Valley”? Why or why not? Explain. Some observers had argued that Uber’s greatest problem was not any of its scandals, but CEO Travis Kalanick. Now that Kalanick no longer serves that role, how much better off is Uber? Do you think Kalanick’s reduced profile will turn the tide for Uber? Or are Kalanick’s drive and competitiveness necessary to Uber’s continued success, regardless of the title he holds? If you were on the board of  directors, what would you recommend? And why? Note: Due to his shareholdings in the company and how ownership is structured, Kalanick is an Uber board member.
