CA Understanding and Addressing Disruptive Behavior Case Study
Please complete the following statement to help you formulate a hypothesis statement. 1. When this occurs….(describe circumstances) 2. …the person does….(describe behavior)3. …to get/to avoid…(describe consequences)(The above was taken from Florida Department of Education. (1999). Facilitator’s guide: Positive behavior support)Your Answer:According to the hypothesis, the student engages in disruptive outbursts to escape complex arithmetic tasks when given in the afternoon and in the presence of a specific peer. They can get attention from others and escape the demands by acting out. Teaching the student to ask for a break or ask the teacher for assistance as a substitute behavior may help curb their disruptive outbursts. The outbursts and replacement conduct should be reinforced with practical consequences to encourage behavior change. The success of the intervention can also be increased by taking into account the student’s lifestyle aspects, such as sleep patterns and social interactions, and by addressing any setting-related events like peer relationships.Teacher’s comment:Are you talking about Rick, you focus person, or about an example from the guide? Please: Give information about your focus person… When this is happening, Rick does what (describe behavior) for what reason (attention, escape, etc)
