Construct a Rogerian Argument

3.1: Construct a Rogerian Argument

ASSIGNMENT: As you learned in this unit, a Rogerian argument is one that presents two sides of a debate and argues for a solution that will satisfy both sides. Given two articles presenting opposing sides of an issue (mandatory uniforms in schools), construct your own 2-3 page Rogerian argument essay in which you attempt to arrive at a workable solution or “middle ground.”

In order to foster learning and growth, all essays you submit must be newly written specifically for this course. Any recycled work will be sent back with a 0, and you will be given one attempt to redo.

A general overview on the rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence in the workplace.

Future of the Workplace

As we have learned, the nature of the workplace is changing rapidly. The rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence has decimated the employment prospects for many employees in many industries. It has also changed the nature of the role of human resource professionals. With that as a background, compose a paper that addresses the following:

  • Provide a general overview on the rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence in the workplace. Present evidence that the use of robots and artificial intelligence is increasingly taking the employment opportunities to which humans have traditionally performed, including the level and scope of this trend.
  • Assess how this trend has affected the promise and security of continued employment for some/many in the United States economy, including an assessment on how the nature and type of employment is changing for the typical US worker (e.g., more part-time employment or static wages).
  • Present the criteria a human resource professional should review before determining whether a position should be filled by a robot or through artificial intelligence.
  • Discuss how these trends will affect the role of human resources, including the typical human resource functions such as recruitment, compensation, labor relations, risk and liability management, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Finally, discuss the role and duty a human resource professional has to ensure full employment for employees and, most importantly, the responsibility human resources should assume for those workers displaced by a world where robots and artificial intelligence are increasingly performing.

how the amendments of IDEA addressed the progressive improvements of special education

Key Historical Events

In the United States, special education is guided by four federal statutes, the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act of 2004  (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1975 (Section 504), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).

Public Law 94-142, Education of All Handicapped Children Act (EHA), passed in 1975, was a foundational congressional act, which required all schools that receive federal funding to provide a free appropriate public education for all students with disabilities. For the first time, this law guaranteed and enforced the rights of children with disabilities to receive unique educational opportunities delivered in the “least restrictive environment.” Prior to this legislation, more than half of all students with disabilities were turned away from schools or were provided a substandard education (U.S. Department of Education, 2015). The law, through multiple reauthorizations, is now known as the IDEA.

Since this landmark legislation was passed, key events have continued to impact the development of the field of special education. For example, in 1990, PL-94-142 was amended with a name change and updated requirements to meet the changing needs of students with disabilities and public education. This bill was amended again in 1997, and a final time in 2004 (ProjectIDEAL, 2013).

The legislative cornerstone of the IDEA set the foundation to “(a) improve how children with disabilities were identified and educated, (b) evaluate the success of these efforts, and (c) provide due process protections for children and families.” (U.S. Department of Education, 2015, Public Law 94-142, para. 2). Current and future special educators have an ethical responsibility to uphold these guiding principles as advocates for children with disabilities.

Please be sure to take about an hour to review this week’s Instructor Guidance; there you will find a wealth of useful information that will guide you as you progress through the week’s discussions and assignments and that can also be used as a scholarly reference in this week’s assignments. In addition, be sure to review the grading rubric as support for performance.

Initial Post: In three paragraphs, summarize how the amendments of IDEA addressed the progressive improvements of special education in meeting the needs of children with disabilities. Then, explain how special education law provides for an appropriate and equal public education as intended by the original iteration of the IDEA, Public Law 94-142, as well as the current governing law. Complete your initial post by reflecting on the impact that the development of these laws have had in protecting the rights of children with disabilities.

criteria that need to be met in order for contact between hostile groups to decrease prejudices.
Instructions

In Chapter 9, you read about four criteria that need to be met in order for contact between hostile groups to decrease prejudices. In this assignment, you will reflect on these criteria and develop a program to reduce prejudice. Compose an essay that includes the following components:

  • an explanation of how one’s tendency to perceive others using either the halo effect or the fundamental attribution error could contribute to developing prejudices,
  • a description of the four criteria used to reduce prejudice, and
  • a discussion of the two criteria that you think are most important and why.

You must also access the CSU Online Library to find a peer-reviewed empirical article that provides supporting evidence for at least one of the two criteria you selected as most important above. In the library database PsycARTICLES, put your search criteria in the Advanced Search, and then limit to the Research Methodology of Empirical Study. These specific kinds of studies are also located in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. After providing a brief overview of the article’s main findings, address the following points.

  • Describe a prejudice reduction program you could implement based on the two criteria that you previously selected as most important.
  • Explain why you believe this program will be effective by drawing on research concerning prejudice and discrimination.
  • Discuss how the program would be implemented. Be specific in who would be targeted, where this program would take place, and how you see the program being executed.

Your response should be at least two pages in length. You must use at least two sources as references for your paper, and at least one source must come from the CSU Online Library. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced, and paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. Please format your paper and all citations in accordance with APA guidelines.
