Explain how you would avoid alert fatigue.

TO PREPARE

  • Review and download the Literature Review Matrix found in the Resources.
  • Research the Walden Library to review at least four peer-reviewed articles on evidence-based practice applied in clinical decision support (CDS). The Walden Library recommends the following:
    • Select the Nursing Research databases in the Walden Library.
    • Search “decision support” in Box 1, and add a diagnosis, condition, population, system, etc., in Box 2. It helps to keep concepts separate.
    • Limit the search results to Peer Reviewed Scholarly Journals only—in the left column of the results screen. Consider limiting results by publication date.
    • For more information about specific theories and models, search SAGE Knowledge for specialized encyclopedias.
The textbook is an excellent source of examples.
  • For each article you find, fill in the columns of the Literature Review Matrix.
  • Review the resources.
  • Consider the models and theories used in your selected articles.
  • Reflect on which of the evidence-based practices you would recommend for quality improvement in your workplace.

THE ASSIGNMENT

Part 1: Literature Review Matrix

Submit your completed Literature Review Matrix that contains the four research articles you researched and reviewed.

Part 2: Clinical Decision Support (CDS) Recommendation

Develop a 10- to 12-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you present your research and data to support your clinical decision support (CDS) recommendation for quality improvement.

Based on your research, address the following in your presentation:

  • Synthesize your findings from your four articles, focusing on applicable models and/or theories relevant to CDS, quality improvement in your workplace, and on applicable evidence-based practice in nursing.
  • Recommend CDS or information to consider in clinical decision making and explain your rationale for the recommendation. Be specific.
  • Justify your recommendation. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Recommend how you would address possible limitations or challenges, including:
    • Explain how you would avoid alert fatigue.
    • Explain under what conditions you would allow an override to an alert.
    • Explain how you would monitor compliance.
    • Identify factors that might contribute to continuous overrides.
    • Justify conditions under which an override may be necessary.
  • Provide references in APA style at the end of your presentation—the reference slide or slides do not count toward your assignment total.

For the PowerPoint presentation in this Assignment, use the APA PowerPoint template provided in the Learning Resources and follow the guidelines in the Assignment for where to provide your references and other APA required items.

Describe how public opinion has changed over time.

Paper Goal:

  • Trace the trend in public opinion on a specific issues over time and examine potential reasons for the trend. You will compare your personal opinion on the issue to that of the public opinion and examine factors influencing public opinion.

Paper Assignment:

  1. Identify a salient political or social issue of interest to you, such as abortion, capital punishment, same sex marriage, immigration, or climate change. (These are just examples. Feel free to choose another topic.)
  2. Go to the Gallup Polls homepage. Locate long term trends (20 years +) in public opinion for your selected topic. (You can search on this site for public opinion on key political and social issues by using the search feature in the upper right-hand corner of the website.)
  3. Write a paper that covers the following items:
  • Describe how public opinion has changed over time. Include a graph from Gallup that shows the trend in the body of your paper.
  • Analyze the trend, using research to assist with your analysis. Questions to consider – What factors may have contributed to the change (or no change) in public opinion?  Given your analysis of current trend, predict the future. What will opinion on this issue look like in five or ten years? Explain.
  • Explain your opinion on the selected topic. Questions to consider — Why do you hold this opinion? What factors have influenced your opinion? Has your perspective changed over time?  Why or why not?  How does your opinion compare to recent public opinion on the issue?
  • Make sure to explain in your paper how what you learned during this project relates to two course concepts or key terms.

Make sure to include a work cited page.

Describe the clinical situation concisely and descriptively.

Choose a patient-care situation in which the RN should intervene and advocate for the patient.  An example of such a situation might be when a patient has not been given complete informed consent.PLEASE SELECT THE TOPIC AND ADD IT AT THE TOP OF ASSIGNMENTInclude the following in your paper:

  • Describe the clinical situation concisely and descriptively. It can be an actual situation or a hypothetical one.
  • Apply the Bioethical Decision Making Model to the specific clinical ethical situation that you choose. Address each section of the model in your paper.
  • Conclude with a discussion of nursing advocacy in the clinical setting and the nurse’s role as a patient advocate.

Your paper should be 3 pages. You must reference and cite 1-2 scholarly sources other than your text.

How is gender development influenced by sexual differentiation?

Sexual differentiation is a complex developmental process beginning with genetic factors established at conception and continuing up to the final form of the body. Discuss situations in which the end result of sexual differentiation is inconsistent with the initial genetic pattern (i.e., transgender, intersex, and sexual identity issues). Address the following:

How is gender development influenced by sexual differentiation?

To what extent is the statement that “gender is socially constructed” true?

In your opinion, do definitions of race, ethnicity, sexual identification, socio-economic status, culture, nationality, and religion influence the way individuals feel about themselves, impact their self-identify, or influence their behavior?

What is your definition of diversity? State the definition in your own words.

In your opinion, do definitions of race, ethnicity, sexual identification, socio-economic status, culture, nationality, and religion influence the way individuals feel about themselves, impact their self-identify, or influence their behavior? Why or why not?

Base your response on the course materials for this week, online research, and your own experience. Be sure to write your responses using appropriate language, establishing professionalism, and demonstrating sensitivity to all groups. Provide both personal examples and research citations to support your answer.

Explain how this global societal issue impacts a specific population.

TOPIC: INTERNATIONAL DRUG TRAFFICKING

Prepare: In preparation for this discussion forum, make a list of what you learned most throughout the process of researching your final topic, as well as difficulties you may have encountered along the way.

Reflect: Think about what you have learned in the development of your research findings on the global societal issue you chose in the Week 1 discussion forum, your proposed solution, and its ethical outcomes, and share with your classmates why this specific issue requires further research.

Write: For this discussion, you will address the following prompts:

  • Identify the global societal issue you have chosen to research for your Final TOPIC, an argumentative, and explain why further research on this topic is important.
  • Provide a clear and concise thesis statement that includes a solution to the global societal issue (see Writing a Thesis Statement Links to an external site. for assistance).
  • Explain how this global societal issue impacts a specific population.
  • Locate a peer-reviewed scholarly source and provide statistical data that you found surprising on the topic.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length, which should include a thorough response to each prompt. You are required to provide in-text citations of applicable required reading materials and/or any other outside sources you use to support your claims. Provide full reference entries of all sources cited at the end of your response. Please use correct APA format when writing in-text citations (see In-Text Citation Helper Links to an external site.) and references (see Formatting Your References List Links to an external site.).

identify important similarities and differences, including an explanation of the strengths and limitations of each theory in explaining developmental processes

THE CONTRIBUTION OF CLASSICAL THEORISTS TO CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTAL THEORISTS

While all major developmental theories attempt to explain the growth of individuals, each theory has a slightly different perspective. Some theories emphasize environmental (nurture) more than biological (nature) influences. Some theories focus on a particular construct (e.g., cognition), while others emphasize the impact of age range in shaping development. Piaget’s cognitive developmental theory emphasizes fixed stages during which the mind’s capacities allow an individual to learn about the world. Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, on the other hand, is not stage-based and describes growth as an interaction between the individual and his or her environment.

Contemporary theories (e.g., Langer’s theory of mindfulness) typically build upon the foundation generated by earlier theories. Langer’s theory of mindfulness contains similarities to classical theories, such as Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, in that they both agree that development is contextual and the organism is an active “mindful” participant. Langer took Vygotsky’s theory to a new level, focusing specifically on education and the learner. Other contemporary theories include neo-Piagetian cognitive developmental theories, which attempt to address the limitations found within Piaget’s classical theory. Robbie Case, Andreas Demetriou, and Kurt Fischer proposed theories that were extensions of Piaget’s theory. These theorists added concepts that expanded on cognitive functioning within the stages of development. Most developmental psychologists today do not believe that a single perspective or theory can sufficiently explain lifespan development; rather, an eclectic approach accounts for development better.

For this Discussion, you will examine classical and contemporary developmental theories as they relate to current applications in developmental psychology.

WEEKLY RESOURCES

Walden University, LLC. (2010a). Cognitive development theories [Video]. Walden University Canvas. https://waldenu.instructure.com

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the course text and other Learning Resources related to mid-20th-century theories and recent theoretical perspectives
  • Select two theories from the following list, one from each column (classical, contemporary), that examine the same developmental processes (i.e., cognitive, physical, and/or social-emotional).

Classical Theories Contemporary Theories

  • Psychoanalytic/Psychosexual
  • Psychosocial
  • Behaviorism/Learning
  • Social Learning
  • Cognitive-Developmental
  • Information Processing
  • Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience
  • Ethology/Evolutionary Developmental
  • Sociocultural
  • Systems Theory

Post a brief description of the two theories you selected (one classical and one contemporary). Contrast the theories you selected. Specifically, identify important similarities and differences, including an explanation of the strengths and limitations of each theory in explaining developmental processes (i.e., cognitive, physical, and social-emotional). Note: Your descriptions should be in paragraph form, not bullet points. Use your Learning Resources and/or other scholarly sources to support your post. Use proper APA format and citations.
