Create a 825 word brochure that describes the various sources of retirement income for older people, including government and personal sources of income.

According to Novak (2018), federal funding for older adults has more than doubled since the 1960s. Increases in the number of older people and the number and types of services or programs for older people account for these costs. These programs and services form a social safety net that ensures a minimum standard of health care and income for older people.

Do you think it is important for people to believe in legends like  King Arthur even if there is little evidence to support them? Why or  why not?

Legends Essay

When you make a claim in an essay, you express an idea or opinion  about information in a text. But an effective essay does more than state  ideas and opinions. To persuade your readers to accept your point of  view, you’ll need to support your claim with evidence, including facts,  details, examples, or logical reasons. Complete the attached worksheet  from lesson 4 to practice using textual evidence.  You may use the ideas  from the worksheet for your essay.  Submitting the worksheet is optional and will not count against your grade; but will help you with understanding how to use textual evidence.

Please read the question to be answered carefully–this assignment is not asking you to write about The Legend of King Arthur. The prompt for the essay is below:

The legend of King Arthur is well-known in literature. Based on Unsolved Mysteries of History, there is little to suggest it is true. Do you think it is important for people to believe in legends like  King Arthur even if there is little evidence to support them? Why or  why not? Write a short (3 paragraphs) explanatory essay stating your  opinion. Justify your opinion and conclusions with relevant textual  evidence (quotes or paraphrased ideas from sources) and background knowledge. Remember to use relevant vocabulary from the text in your essay.

Is the “Church of Our Lady” that now stands in Dresden the same Church that stood there in 1750? Why or why not?

Instructions

IMPORTANT: You do NOT need to restate the prompt. Dive straight into the problem (I suggest you start by identifying the key issues in the situation). Seriously, don’t waste space with a lengthy introduction. I know what the prompt says since I wrote it – only repeat the details of it if they’re necessary, but avoid summaries.

Instructions: You are to respond to the topic below using the ideas and concepts we have been discussing in this course. Your response should be between 200 and 300 words. You MUST cite something from within the course (textbook, course pages, discussions, etc.) AND another source you find from outside the course (the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Links to an external site.), the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Links to an external site.), another book, a journal – check out our library’s online resources (Links to an external site.), Wikipedia, YouTube, a TV show, etc.) when crafting your response. You might want to write this in another application (Google Docs, Word, Notepad, etc.) and copy and paste it.

Paragraph #2 Topic:

Near the end of World War II, the city of Dresden, Germany was severely damaged when allied forces dropped nearly 4,000 tons of explosives on a 15 square mile area around the city center. The “Church of Our Lady,” built in the first part of the 18th century, had been a symbol of the city and was reduced to rubble. It lay in ruins as a war memorial until 1995 when a number of people decided it was time to rebuild it. They sorted the rubble, salvaged all the useful stones and parts, and used a sophisticated computer program to determine the exact location of the stones when the church last stood in 1945. Using as much of the original parts as they could (and filling in the gaps with new parts) as well as the original plans, they slowly rebuilt the entire church over a 5 year period in the exact same spot that it once stood. Is the “Church of Our Lady” that now stands in Dresden the same Church that stood there in 1750? Why or why not? What makes it the same? Or what makes it not the same? If you say they’re the same, then what are the essential parts of the Church that make it the same? If you say they’re different, then how do the two Churches relate to each other?

Now, let’s apply a little twist: Assume you visit Dresden and you are standing in front of the church looking at it. You close your eyes for five seconds and then open them and see the church again. How do you know you’re looking at the same church that you saw before and after you opened your eyes? Or could it actually be a different church? Why or why not?

(Be sure to make use of the course materials when crafting your response.)

In 2-3 pages articulate your understanding of race, race relations, and racism as it relates to these incidents and critically analyze Owen’s response to them.

On May 25, 2020 George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer. Captured on cell phone video and disseminated widely, Floyd’s killing has sparked national and global protests as people reckon with what many proclaim are racially motivated acts of violence against Black people. Shortly after Floyd’s death conservative analyst Candace Owens shared her thoughts on George Floyd, the protests, and the Back Lives Matter movement. In 2-3 pages articulate your understanding of race, race relations, and racism as it relates to these incidents and critically analyze Owen’s response to them. In your response, which should be a broad discussion of the issues involved, be sure to discuss the origins of anti-black racisms, biological, and cultural racisms, and the relationship between implicit bias, individual racisms, internalized, and institutionalized racisms. Use the clip Candace Owens Telling Things as they are about who George Floyd was  on YouTube as the basis for your critical analysis.
