Explain the reciprocal relationship in the influence between societal and structural factors, individual behavior and the self’s development

Purpose The purpose of this assignment is to recognize sociological concepts at play in your lived experience.   Keeping a field log of your social and institutional experiences for one day, you will critically discuss how your daily life is shaped and constrained by society. This will allow you engage with many of the sociological concepts learned in class. Writing expectations The paper should be 4-6 typed pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, with 1″ margins.  Remember to use APA format to cite and reference your sources. A presentation that offers additional assistance in completing the assignment is available at https://prezi.com/view/DTakPcZ9NlkobNn93EMi/ Instructions 1) Observation  Create a field log (example).  For one day, observe and record the key interactions and institutions in your lived experience.   Starting with waking up, who is the first person you talk to?  What do you do next- take family members to school, go to the gym, go to work and interact with coworkers?  Throughout the day you will take on different roles by interacting with different people and in different situations, and be in contact with different social institutions (education, government, health, etc). Type or photograph your field log and submit it with your written Assignment. 2) Application  Try to wait one or more days before starting this step.  Revisit your field log and apply sociological analysis to your observations. Describe how our day is shaped and constrained by social norms.  Analyze how at least four sociological concepts learned in class (eg. roles, institutions, interactions, impression management, stage theory, emotional labor) apply to your field log observations.  This part of the paper should not be focused on the general social norms you described earlier, dig in with specific concepts in this from our text (refrain from using dictionaries). For at least two of the concepts, find and incorporate an appropriate source that highlights how sociologists study this concept in everyday society (for example, emotional labor in the restaurant industry).  Not sure what constitutes an appropriate source?  See our Announcement on this in the classroom- tips and a learning module are provided there.  For example, we discussed gender socialization: In an article by Crespi (2011) that studied gender socialization and gender roles within the family, results showed that a cross-gender relationship between fathers and daughters, mothers and sons has emerged as significant in determining traditional and non-traditional gender attitudes. The research suggested that the relationship with the parent of the opposite sex could be a strong factor in reducing stereotyped attitudes regarding gender roles (Crespi, 2011). *Use a different example in your paper, the purpose here is to show your research skills rather than repeat my research skills.* 3)      Reflection Reflect on your role as a larger part of society (i.e. your motives, instincts, feelings, and/or structural constraints).  Discuss ways other people affected you and the ways you affected others in the social experiences of your day. Sample Field Log Below is a brief field log to give you an idea of the social interactions and institutions you might look for in your day.  With the observations are sample course concepts that relate to the observations.  Be creative in exploring and applying concepts- we will all apply concepts differently even if the scenes we observe are very similar. 5:45am: Wake up, interact with children. Gender roles, nuclear family, folkways 6:30am: Interact with spouse and children.  Eat breakfast, run, shower. 8:00am: Arrive at airport, check in interaction with airline customer service; interaction with TSA. Social structure, bureaucracy, norms, mores, social control 9:00am: Wait with other passengers to board flight; purchase a drink at coffee shop; employees have a tip jar; a family sitting close by is watching the news and commenting on what they think is wrong with other cultures. Emotional labor, ethnocentrism, Piaget’s stages of development 9:30am: On flight with family having a difficult time with small children; flight attendant offers to help them.  Emotional labor, gender roles, family 12pm: Arrive at destination airport; drive two hours to see extended family.  Along the road there are farmers with fruit stands.  See homeless person asking for assistance in exchange for work.  Poverty, inequality 4pm: Extended family arrives for potluck dinner; look at family photos together and share family memories.  Watch evening news-  local robbery and assault. Social deviance, material culture 6pm: Stop at church to meet family friend, see a bible study group inside; lots of religious symbols; someone remarks on a new church being built to accommodate a different racial group. Religion, race, monotheism This course has “Resubmission” status enabled to help you if you realize you submitted an incorrect or blank file, or if you need to submit multiple documents as part of your Assignment.  Resubmission of an Assignment after it is graded, to attempt a better grade, is not permitted. Assignment 3 meets the following course objectives: Apply a sociological perspective to the social world. Analyze contemporary social issues using the sociological imagination and use sociological theories and concepts to analyze everyday life. Recognize and define social structure and social interaction Explain the reciprocal relationship in the influence between societal and structural factors, individual behavior and the self’s development

Create an evaluation goal and identify the viewpoint related to the goal that will guide your own evaluation plan. Provide a rationale for choosing that goal and viewpoint.

Because of the great differences between HIT systems and different goals of an evaluation, there is no one-size-fits-all evaluation plan. Different technologies require different evaluation methods. Consequently, in this part of the Evaluation Plan Project, there is a need to conduct research on how system implementations prevent errors, enhance the quality, and efficiency of health systems. Select one research goal and viewpoint to use in the evaluation. In a 4-page documentation: · Identify which of the cases from the text, will be evaluated in this project, summarize the case, and explain why the selected system featured in the case. · Next, summarize your three research findings on similar HIT implementations. Include the models, evaluation methods, findings, and plans for reevaluation in each article. · Critique the HIT implementations: Identify successful and unsuccessful elements of the implementations. Explain the reasons for the successful elements. Identify areas for improvement and explain why (or how) they could be improved. · Create an evaluation goal and identify the viewpoint related to the goal that will guide your own evaluation plan. Provide a rationale for choosing that goal and viewpoint. Reference Abbasi-moghaddam, M. A., Zarei, E., Bagherzadeh, R., Dargahi, H., & Farrokhi, P. (2019). Compare and contrast the major characteristics of the U. S. healthcare delivery system with the systems of other developed countries.

Competency

Compare and contrast the major characteristics of the U. S. healthcare delivery system with the systems of other developed countries. Student Success Criteria View the grading rubric for this deliverable by selecting the “This item is graded with a rubric” link, which is located in the Details & Information pane. Scenario You are the new Director of the International Relations Division of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and have been tasked with researching and creating a draft healthcare delivery model for the U.S. As you work with your team, you discover that other developed nations have very interesting components that make up their healthcare systems. Before you complete a proposed U.S. healthcare delivery model that can be viewed as sustainable and crafted strictly for the U.S. given the healthcare climate and rules and government, you thought you should first compose an ideal healthcare delivery system composed of the best components from the world’s developed nations, including the United States. The United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Global Affairs is the diplomatic voice of the Department of Health and Human Services that fosters critical global relationships, coordinate international engagement across HHS and the U.S. government, and provide leadership and expertise in global health diplomacy and policy to contribute to a safer, healthier world (https://www.hhs.gov/about/agencies/oga/index.html) Instructions Create a proposed healthcare delivery model based on a combination of developed nations’ health systems (including the U.S.) using the best parts of each: Outcomes, costs, and processes. The proposed model should include a full report that has the following elements: A detailed definition of healthcare in the U.S. under this proposed model. A SWOT analysis per country (minimum of 5 countries) from around the world. One country from each quadrant of the world is required (north, south, east, and west) and one country must be the U.S. Each country should have a minimum of two strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats regarding their national healthcare systems’ outcomes, costs, and processes. For example, Country 1: two strengths on the outcomes, two weaknesses on the outcomes, two opportunities on the outcomes, two threats on the outcomes. Two strengths on the costs, two weaknesses on the costs, two opportunities on the costs, two threats on the costs. Two strengths on the processes, two weaknesses on the processes, two opportunities on the processes, two threats on the processes. A comparison chart of the costs of healthcare in the U.S. with the costs of healthcare in other developed nations. A comparison chart of the U.S. health outcomes to the health outcomes of the other developed nations. Recommend strategies you believe would be best to use in a healthcare delivery model for the U.S. only using the best parts of models from other developed nations. The report should include two pages for each country, as well as a cover page and reference page.

research and write an essay defining and explaining what each of the 10 PPACA Titles are designed for.

Midterm Essay Assignment: Titles of the Affordable Care Act

Obamacare, officially called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) but more often called the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is designed to reform the health insurance industry and the American health care system as a whole. The law contains over a thousand pages of provisions that give Americans more rights and protections and expanded access to affordable quality health care to tens of millions of under and uninsured.  The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law March 23rd, 2010 and upheld by a Supreme Court ruling on June 28, 2012. During the ruling the law was changed to allow states to opt-out of expanding access to Medicaid. This change in effect has left millions without health insurance. The law, however, requires all Americans have health insurance by 2014, or pay a penalty, for each month without at least the minimum essential coverage. Although this shared responsibility provision is unofficially called an individual mandate, it was ruled to be in fact a tax and not a mandate by the June 28, 2012 Supreme court ruling. The PPACA does not change the way insurance is obtained, you can still buy private insurance, get employer based insurance, or get insurance through a government program like Medicaid or Medicare and TriCare. The PPACA does add a new way to purchase insurance however. Insurance can now be purchased through state Health Insurance Marketplaces where shoppers (if qualified) can receive cost assistance and get comparisons of plans. The ACA was signed into law to address the national health care crisis and to make insurance more affordable and available for the (previously identified) 44 million under and uninsured.  Retrieved from https://obamacarefacts.com/affordablecareact-summary/ With this statement as a backdrop, and as a precursor to your final research project, please research and write an essay defining and explaining what each of the 10 PPACA Titles are designed for. How do the brands compare in terms of pricing, promotion, assortment?

Assignment Brief As a brand manager of Pepsi-Cola, you are asked to build an understanding of the sales return of its marketing mix decisions. To that end, information on weekly brand sales of Pepsi and Coca-Cola are collected over a period of 116 weeks. The data cover real-world sales and marketing mix information on Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola aggregated across a selection of grocery stores at 1 European grocery retailer. The Excel file “cola.xls” contains the data on both brands. Brand 1 in the data refers to Coca-Cola, and brand 2 refers to Pepsi-Cola. For example, “sales.brand1” (column B) refers to the sales of CocaCola, whereas “sales.brand2” refers to the sales of Pepsi-Cola (column K). The objective of the analysis is to build an understanding of Pepsi’s sales drivers (not Coca Cola’s drivers). In other words, your response variable will be “sales.brand2” (not “sales.brand1”). Note that the data are proprietary. No part of the data may be used for other purposes than for completing this assignment, and please do not further distribute any part of the data. Brand 1 Brand 2 Coca-Cola Pepsi-Cola The following variables are available for each brand: Variable name Variable description Week Ranges from 1 to 116. “1” indicates the first week of the data, “116” the last week of the data. “1” corresponds to the first week of January (in 2015). Sales Total weekly brand sales (expressed in litres) Feature Percentage of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) on feature Display Percentage of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) on display Price Average paid price (i.e., after discounts) per litre Assortment Average number of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) by the brand stocked by the retailer TV Total weekly spending (in euro) on TV advertising Digital Total weekly spending (in euro) on Digital advertising OOH Total weekly spending (in euro) on Out Of Home (OOH) advertising Magazine Total weekly spending (in euro) on Magazine advertising Questions 1) Calculate descriptive statistics about the sales and marketing mix variables for both brands. Report the statistics and summarize learnings and insights. For instance, who is the market leader? How do the brands compare in terms of pricing, promotion, assortment? How do the brands compare in terms of allocation of spending between the four advertising instruments? 2) Estimate a regression model with a log-log specification that explains Pepsi’s sales (“sales.brand1”) as a function of Pepsi’s own marketing mix variables. Only include the following 8 predictors in the model: Pepsi’s feature, display, assortment, price, tv, digital, ooh, and magazine (i.e., exclude Coca-Cola’s marketing mix variables from your model). Only add a value of 1 to predictors that contain zero values before estimation. Report the results of the model. Based on this model, what do you conclude about the relation between Pepsi’s marketing mix variables and its sales? 3) The brand would like to understand whether its TV, OOH, magazine, and digital advertising have a longer-term effect on its sales. Estimate the same model as estimated in question 2, but now use an adstock specification for all four advertising instruments, setting lambda to 0.6 for all four advertising instruments. Report the results of the model, interpret the estimates about the impact of advertising on sales and about the impact of the other marketing mix elements, and discuss your findings. 4) Reflect critically on the validity of the estimated coefficients in question 3. For instance, to what extent can the model accurately predict future outcomes? To what extent are predictor variables correlated with one another? Are there any potentially important excluded variables? What are the implications for the validity of your findings? How can the model be improved? Evaluation The overall objective is to illustrate that you can use the available data and modelling techniques to build an understanding of sales drivers, interpret results to generate insights, reflect critically on the validity of the model, and provide solutions to overcome limitations of a model. Marks are assigned per question: • Question 1: 20% • Question 2: 10% • Question 3: 20% • Question 4: 40% • 10% is based on the overall quality of presentation of the answers (e.g., use of tables/figures to present results, clarity and quality of presented answers) Format • PDF document: Times New Roman 12, single spaced. Maximum 6 pages (excl. cover page). There is no word count. o Structure your report along the questions and indicate this clearly using headings in the report (“Question 1”, “Question 2”, “Question 3”, “Question 4”). o Integrate tables/figures in the main part of your report • Submit the R code along with your PDF report.
