What is the difference between a mere wrong and an evil?

What is the difference between a mere wrong and an evil? And between a merely bad person and an evil person? Critically discuss, drawing on relevant literature.
6. Do psychopaths pose an important problem for moral rationalism? Critically discuss, drawing on relevant literature.
7. Critically discuss, drawing on relevant literature, Strawson’s claim that the truth of determinism does not impact on our everyday practices of praise and blame.
8. Critically discuss, drawing on relevant literature, Schectman’s claim that we selfcreate ourselves as persons through the construction of narrative.

What, in your view, are the likely moral implications (i.e. moral benefits and/or moral costs) of abandoning our prevailing assumptions about the existence of moral character, and instead adopting a form of ethical situationism?

What, in your view, are the likely moral implications (i.e. moral benefits and/or moral costs) of abandoning our prevailing assumptions about the existence of moral character, and instead adopting a form of ethical situationism? What would it mean for our collective moral conventions and practices? Evaluate: should we abandon or retain characterological ethics? Defend your evaluation with reasons and arguments.

Explain why your chosen statistical tests are appropriate for testing the null hypothesis

Description
Probability, Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, and Measures This is a three-part assignment that will be submitted as one document. You will need a title and reference page for this assignment. You do not need to include the introduction or conclusion sections. Part I. Based on what you have learned about probability and distributions, hypothesis testing, and measures of association, answer the following: What statistical tests will you use to test your null hypothesis (H0)? Explain why your chosen statistical tests are appropriate for testing the null hypothesis (H0)? How will you determine correlations between variables? Part II. Go to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Table A-1: Employment status of the civilian population by sex and age. Table A-1 presents the employment status of the civilian population by sex and age and is updated monthly. For this assignment, select the data from the latest available month under the Seasonally Adjusted header column, men, 20 years and over employed and unemployed, and women, 20 years and over, employed and unemployed. Using any software of your choice and data from Table A-1, develop the following tables and figures, and conduct the following statistical tests. Create a contingency table and calculate the frequencies. Create an expected frequencies table. Calculate the Chi-Square statistic. Calculate the t-Statistic. Develop a standard scatter plot for the variables. Determine if your data level is nominal, ordinal, or continuous. Then calculate the Phi coefficient for nominal level data, Gamma for ordinal level data, or Pearson’s r for continuous level data. Export the tables and figure(s) into a Word document. Tables and figures are required to follow APA Style. Part III. As in previous units, revisions to the hypothesis and research questions may be necessary. If you feel revisions are needed, go ahead and make them. If no revisions are needed, justify your decision. Keep in mind you will be developing a quantitative research proposal. Your final submitted document must be at least three pages long

Select two or more paintings or posters that were inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and discuss how they chooses to present the theme(s) of the play.

Wilderness, Countryside and City

Write a paper of (minimum) 2000 – (maximum) 3000 paper on one of the following 5 topics.

  1. Select two or more paintings or posters that were inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and discuss how they chooses to present the theme(s) of the play. Your paper should contain:
  • A high quality reproduction of the paintings that will allow detailed scrutiny
  • Biographical information on the painter(s)
  • For each painting a description and analysis of the scene from the play the painter chose for his subject. Who are in it, what is its significance, etc.?
  • A full analysis and interpretation of the painting(s), which should address questions such as:
  • Why was this particular scene selected?
  • To what extent is the painting / poster faithful to the play?
  • How to explain & interpret possible changes that the painter / designer made?
  • What is the nature of the city or forest scene portrayed?
  • To what extent can each painting be related to the wider issues of the Pastoral and /or Urbanisation in the 19th or 20th century? To illustrate points one or two other paintings (not necessarily by the same artist) may be brought into the discussion, but only to highlight particular issues. However, your first choice of painting should remain the focal point of your paper.
  • A compare and contrast discussion of the paintings selected: what are the most striking similarities and differences? Can these be related to the period(s) in which the paintings / posters were created?

  1. Select three entries (one day each) from the Lewis & Clark Diaries [ http://lewisandclarkjournals.unl.edu/index.html ] that illustrate different aspects of their dealing with life in the Wilderness. For example, the extracts could relate to their treatment of the native population, their attitude towards flora and fauna, their scientific work, the hazards of life in the wilderness, etc. Provide the full text of the entry, contextualise and (if necessary) annotate the extracts (this may require further research). Then add your own detailed analysis, provide biographical and historical background where relevant and make clear which aspect of life in the wilderness each extract illustrates and what it says (or suggests) about their attitude towards the wilderness. You could also relate the extracts to the Pioneer-picture that Walt Whitman presents in his ‘Pioneers! O Pioneers’ and / or Jackson Turner’s frontier theory.

  1. Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South is one of the ‘Condition of England’-novels. Select at least two passages from the novel, at least one urban scene and one rural scene, and analyse these extracts in detail. In doing so you could:
  • Research the phenomenon ‘Condition of England’-novels and give a concise account of its characteristics. Acknowledge your sources.
  • Relate the extracts to the general characteristics of the ‘Condition of England’-novels you listed.
  • Compare and contrast the portrayal of city and countryside; what significant features are highlighted or emphasized? What is left out?
  • Relate the extracts to the wider issues of 19th century urbanisation and the Victorian ideas about the countryside.
  • Does the novel illustrate Georg Simmel’s characterization of metropolitan life (in ‘The Metropolis and Mental Life’) in any way(s)?

  1. Deborah Moggach’s Tulip Fever is a historical novel mainly set in 17th century Amsterdam. Present an analysis of the novel. Some suggested topics:
  • Research the status and reputation of Amsterdam in the 17th century and give a concise account of your findings, including sources.
  • Explore the portrait of the Dutch 17th century city she presents in the novel: what significant features or themes are highlighted or emphasized and how? What significant elements are left out (and, if relevant, why)? Give illustrations from the text wherever possible.
  • Discuss to what extent do modern ideas about the city inform the portrayal of Amsterdam in the novel? Give illustration(s) from the text.
  • Discuss the function of the colour-reproductions that have been added to the book. How do they relate to the story?
  • Explore to what extent the novel illustrates Georg Simmel’s characterization of metropolitan life (in ‘The Metropolis and Mental Life’).

  1. Find one English or American poem that deals with urban life in the 19th century and another that deals with urban life in the 20th Write an essay in which you compare and contrast these poems. What do they say about urban life, are they positive / negative, which aspects of urban life do they focus on? Does either of the poems (or both) illustrate Georg Simmel’s characterization of metropolitan life (in ‘The Metropolis and Mental Life’) in any way(s)? Provide biographical and historical background information if relevant. Include the full text of both poems in an appendix (these should NOT be included in the word count). If you google a combination of: city / urban / poetry or poems you’ll find plenty of texts. You can add Victorian / American / 19th or 20th century to narrow down your search].
The history of media and technology is the history of war. Discuss with reference to Paul Virilio’s thesis in War and Cinema

Major Research Essay

Information about this task

Academic work involves the creation and development of new knowledge. In humanities and social sciences work, this is usually generated through research essays which are disseminated in peer-reviewed academic journals and books published by academic presses. These essays are based upon the careful collection, evaluation and discussion of evidence in service of a broader argument making a claim about the world in the context of a particular disciplinary field.

With this in mind, there are two components in this assessment, both written in response to one of the questions below.

  1. (a)  The first focuses on the critical researching and reading of the field that underpins academic work, and involves the creation of an annotated bibliography in preparation for your final essay. You will need to locate and read six (6) relevant academic sources, providing detailed bibliographic information for each source along with a 150-200 word summary of the main themes, approach and argument of the source. This should be arranged alphabetically using the Chicago Style. These sources can include readings from the list provided with the essay questions under the Assessment Material tab on Blackboard.

Question: The history of media and technology is the history of war. Discuss with reference to Paul Virilio’s thesis in War and Cinema (1989)

Identify 3 critical incidents within your placement experience in year 3 and complete an analysis related to these events.

Detailed assessment brief Learning portfolio

This module includes a summatively assessed portfolio which contributes to your overall grade for this module. Your Student Portfolio should demonstrate your personal and professional development and be cross referenced to the four NMC Domains: • Professional values • Communication and interpersonal skills • Nursing practice and decision making • Leadership, management and team working 2 How to structure your Learning Profile: • Please use a different patient in sections 1 & 2 • Please include the word count for the relevant sections as indicated below • Please ensure you profile clearly identifies how each section maps to the NMC domains and includes a confidentiality statement. You may decide to do this as a covering statement and cross-referenced check list at the start of your assignment. • We strongly advise you to reference each section this enables you to keep track of your references and makes for easier reading, however, this is not compulsory and 1 overall reference list is acceptable Your learning portfolio will be structured in to five sections and contain the following evidence: Section One A timeline of a patient’s journey (not included in word count and can be presented as chosen by the student) and a 1000-word reflection using a model related to the care journey. Within your reflection you are expected to identify any areas where care delivery could have been improved/enhanced and to identify interprofessional working opportunities. Need to demonstrate level 6 reflective writing Section Two Identify a case study of an individual experiencing complex healthcare needs and complete a mapping of the pathophysiology related to their diagnosis. This should be supported by referenced sources and may include diagrams where they are fully explained. Maximum word count 500. Should return to the patient here, no limits to number of diagrams used should demonstrate some complexity in the written element. Section Three Identify a case example and complete a full care plan giving a rationale for your care decisions. (Should reference nursing model used, references needed here re 3 rationales) Nursing interventions should be clear and clearly identify patients need/ problem

Section Four
Identify 3 critical incidents within your placement experience in year 3 and complete an analysis related to these events. These events must be related to clinical practice and may include: a deteriorating patient; care of a dying person; unexpected death; medicines management; clinical risk assessment/management etc. There should be a brief description of the incident (maximum 100 words) followed by analysis (maximum 750 words) per incident. Should demonstrate level 6 analysis, can use a reflective model if you want to it can help with structure Section Five This section should include evidence of your engagement in clinical supervision by the inclusion of your supervision record sheet and a completed learning diary sheet related to each of your organised clinical supervision sessions. It is important to maintain anonymity and confidentiality throughout this documentary evidence. A maximum of 2 peer supervisions can be included and 3 clinical (5 total). References needed in this section as students are asked to write their reflections in more detail and use SMART goals using literature to support. Section in the reflective writing on what they are taking forward should be detailed to clearly demonstrate what you have learnt and are taking forward.
