Strategic Plan Proposal School Safety Officer

My primary concern as a school safety officer is to ensure the general well-being and safety of the students and other members of staff. It is a fundamental consideration to ensure their security regardless of the challenges. One significant challenge is the rising prevalence of mental health issues among school safety officers (Hadden et al., 2022). I hope that I will never experience the stress and depression that affects my mental health and renders me ineffective in carrying out my duties as a safety officer. However, the barriers to achieving general mental well-being include the fact that work can be mentally draining, and the growing number of students and staff who require security makes my job demanding and, at times, stressful. There are instances of the financial crisis that cause salary delays, which prevents me from meeting my day-to-day needs, creating instances of stress and bringing issues to my mental wellness. As a result, I must devise a strategy to achieve mental well-being.

The strategies include:

  1. Connecting with others is one of the strategies. Connecting with others helps form good relationships, and good relationships form the foundation of good mental health. Good relationships also foster openness, so people feel free to talk to others about their problems and may find solutions to the problems they face, reducing overthinking and, as a result, stress.
  2. Exercises that are part of being physically active help with fitness and improve an individual’s health; hence, physical exercises help keep the body in shape and thus reduce stress, boosting mental health.
  • Learning a new skill is a good strategy because it keeps me focused on an activity rather than worrying about something else. As a result, the mind focuses on the new skill rather than things that may stress me out, promoting overall good mental health.

Assignment Brief and Guidance:
The Dental Surgery building design concept was developed in the Unit 5 assignment, as follows:

As part of your role as Project Manager in a small Architectural Office, you are working with a client, to build a new dental surgery which will include the following accommodation contained within a single storey 3m high unit (includes internal room dimensions in metres):

●      Reception area (2.8m x 2.2m)

●      Dental surgery Room 1 (4.4m x 3.2m)

●      Dental surgery Room 2 (6.4m x 3.2m)

●      Staff facility tea room/break out area. (3.2m x 2.8m)

●      Staff WC (2m x 1.2m)

●      Plant room (3.2m x 1.8m)

The procurement and design will be “traditional tender” , with detailed design using a full design team, Architects, Structural Engineer, Mechanical and Electrical building services Engineers. The building will be a modular build, constructed using off site fabrication and delivered to site by lorry and crane. It is to be located within the car park area adjacent to an ASDA supermarket.

Following the stakeholder meeting (Assignment for Unit 5), the Client has asked to have a meeting and has asked you to provide some draft elevations and plans so that he can explore various options and also to give him an explanation as to the construction information that each member of the team will be producing.

Task 1

  1. Make a list of the construction information (plans, drawings, specifications and templates) indicating which member of a design team would produce them with a brief explanation of how the information will be used in the project.
  2. Produce either a 2D plan with elevations, or a 3D model of the new grooming parlour using one of the free downloadable CAD or sketching tools, (see links to free on-line CAD tools in the reference section at the end of this assignment brief). Using the drawings, produce door and window schedules and an outline bill of quantities with approximate costs.
  3. Compose a “Schedule of Works” document for the building, think about the different designers

involved and the works and activities involved to meet the project requirements. Explain the application and importance of the different designer’s specifications.

Task 1 covers the following Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria LO1; P1, P2, M1, D1 & LO2; P3, P4, M2

Task 2

  1. Using 2 separate copies of the plans or model that you produced in Task 1,

a) mark one of the base building layouts with all the furniture items you think are required , to scale

b) on the second set of base building layout,   indicate the following building services, lighting, positions, small power outlets and radiators on the walls. Where applicable draw these to scale on the drawings.

c) Once you have completed these two sets of mark ups, review the COMBINED furniture and building services layouts by cross referencing and identify any clashes between the furniture, and the building services.

d) Prepare a “Red pen mark up” of the drawings to highlight any errors or clashes and briefly write up a report of the findings of this red pen exercise.

  1. If the project was to be changed to a “Design and Build” (D&B) type of construction, how would personnel change – who would be appointed? Provide an explanation of how the construction information would be different for D&B, and how might this benefit the client and the project, or not ?
  2. As a conclusion, provide a critical evaluation of the different types of information produced by different participants on construction projects highlighting the relationship between different bodies of information and how they work in conjunction. How could the different parties producing this information collaborate better to improve this process and outcomes. How could the use of BIM as opposed to only CAD improve this process?

Task 2 covers the following Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria LO3; P5, P6, M3, D2 & LO4; P7, P8, M4

What kind of leaders will be best suited in managing this transition in implementing innovative and effective learning and training solutions?

Not since the end of the Cold War has the IC and its workforce faced as many changes in the threat environment and adapting to illusive national security situations such as a global pandemic and constantly shifting transnational threats. While the pandemic an immediate challenge, the infusion of new technologies will be evolutionary.

The IC needs to be creative as it deals with future challenges with a changing workforce demographic and the infusion of emerging technologies. Senior IC leaders see new tools such as artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics and machine learning as part of the solution by enabling the workforce to spend less time in processing raw data.

Training on these new tools will be critical as they are highly technical and intensive.  What kind of leaders will be best suited in managing this transition in implementing innovative and effective learning and training solutions? What are some best practices and lessons learned from the public and private sectors?
