Discuss the extent to which an increase in investment is the most important factor in increasing economic growth in a country of your choice.

‘Discuss the extent to which an increase in investment is the most important factor in increasing economic growth in a country of your choice.’

Introduction (150 max)

Gilesspie (2016:426) define that the investment as ‘‘Investment occurs when firms make a decision to allocate resources into projects that will generate future returns’’. Begg and Vernesca (2020: 374) define that the economic growth as ‘’Economic growth refers to the increase in the capacity of an economy to produce goods and services over time.’’ The purpose of this report is to examine the level of invesments in the UK and determine to what extend is invesment affect the economic growth in the UK and evaluate examples of invesments to the UK government. It will start by introducing invesment and forms of it. Then actual and potantial economic growth with role of investment in aggregate demand and productivity. It will then argue the case for thhe main driver of economic growth is investment and the opposite of the case. It will finally give three country examples that affects economic growth in the UK.

Investment and economic growth (500)

(Black et all Oxford dictionary ) defines investment as ‘’the process of adding to stocks of real productive assets’’. Individuals invest with purchased goods for future expected benefits. There is three types of investment such as; gross investment , depreciation investment and net investment. Gross investment is the total investment in an economy while depreciation investment is maintain the level of equipment and machinery. Net investment is increase the capital stock in the economy (Gilesspie 2016:427). Investment can take various forms such as ICT to improve technological equipments and or Research and Development (R&D) to produce new technological knowledge or develop existing systems. If a government is succesful enough to influence the level of aggregate demand with the level of investment, economic growth also influence positively from it (Gilesspie 2016: 426). A well targeted investment in an economy plays a key factor on the level of growth. For example, efficently targeted infrastructure is shown to have economic benefits by raising economic growth and productivity (Seidu et al.). Improving infrastructure will not give directly growth but it may improve trade and the connections between sides of the trade therefore economic growth.

‘’The percentage increase in national output (real GDP) from one period to the next is known as actual economic growth.’’.(Sloman and Garratt 2016:234).

. Economic growth is caused by the increase in aggregate demand (AD). And in the economy increase in AD cause the increase in the level of real GDP.

Increased consumer demand. Investment is to provide extra capacity. This will only be necessary, therefore, if consumer demand increases. The bigger the increase in consumer demand, the more investment will be needed. (sloman and garatt page 212)

The percentage increase in national output (real GDP) from one period to the next is known as actual economic growth. When statistics on growth rates are provided, they are referring to real growth.(Sloman and Garratt 2016:234).

Examples of relationship between investment and economic growth in the UK

(Black et al Oxford dictionary) defines trade as ‘The exchange of goods between two individuals or nations. Trade is the basic component of economic activity and is undertaken for mutual advantage’. Trade is one of the key factors affecting a countries economy positively. International trade is an important part of the government’s plan for growth and prosperity (BIS 2010:8). It can be clearly seen from the figure 2 that between 2000 and 2008 there was an outsanding increase in total trade of exports in the UK.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) aimed to get benefits from long-term commintment. According to conventional economic theory, exchange rate movements have a neutral effect on the rate of return for foreign investors, because a depreciation of the host country’s currency lowers the amount of foreign currency required to purchase the asset while also lowering the nominal return received in the foreign currency (BIT 2010:90).

Create a Project Management Plan for this project.

Project Case:

Our Information Technology consulting firm, M-Tech, has been contracted to provide an online sales capability update to MEATS by JOHN which has headquarters in the Chicago metropolitan area.

MEATS by JOHN has been having minor problems with orders placed through their current system over the past several months. Their online services have not been kept up to date and a small percentage of Customer orders were incorrect in 2021. In some isolated cases, orders were completed by their service but the order information was not transmitted to the headquarters location for completion. Customers were disappointed in the order handling process.

MEATS by JOHN is a well-known family owned chain and has a reputation for high quality meat products. With the experience of disappointed Customers, the MEATS by JOHN staff felt a directional change was needed to improve the quality of the ordering process. In order to maintain the control of the food products offered to Customers and to provide an exceptional experience for Customers, this project has been approved to begin.

Annual sales were $48.24M US in 2021.

The MEATS by JOHN ERP system handles cash/credit card transactions, sales, and financial reporting. The ERP system has the Application Program Interfaces (API) for the interfaces needed to manage cash and credit card sales on the website and the ability to report sales. The M-Tech solution will need to handle the establishment of an online storefront for Internet sales. The project requires adding this capability to the company website (MEATS by JOHN already has a website). The sales application needs to have both desktop and Smartphone capabilities.

M-Tech needs to determine if the store website capability should be built using the company web hosting platform or if an outsourced solution should be utilized for the project (contracting for a web-based store application modified for the MEATS by JOHN brand). M-Tech is responsible for the determination of either option and will have project management responsibility for all aspects of the project.

The Internet based application will need to have sales performance and site visit reports to measure performance and effectiveness of the business approach. The inventory and financial reports will be provided by the company ERP system. Both financial systems will need reporting for system reconciliation. Due to the nature of the increasing need for an Internet presence, any additional enhancements due to market changes will be considered for future phases of development after the initial launch.

From our review of comparable project efforts at M-Tech, the estimates to support this project will take approximately 6 months of development/configuration and roughly cost $167,000 US.

What Does it mean to be A Data Driven Pricing Strategy Organization?

WORKING TITLE: What Does it mean to be A Data Driven Pricing Strategy Organization?

1. Research Area | Research Context | Challenge/Problem Statement| Objective (Note the citation rules!)

Today’s dynamic business environment demands that organizations adapt flexible, fast-changing pricing strategies. Companies must be fast enough to react to changes in the market demand and competitor activities. This requires a data driven organization that can analyze market trends and regularly monitor competitor pricing strategies.

When it comes to selling your product, the company has the opportunity to strategically set a price for its product. There is an option to determine which pricing method is best for the company but keeping in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. In fact, many businesses are continuously juggling these decisions to stay competitive. The key is figuring out which option delivers the best return on investment while aligning with the company’s business goals and strategic objectives.

The goal of my research is to outline the benefits of becoming a data driven pricing strategy organization.

I would like to explore the field by outlining what could be the future of strategic pricing.

My research has the main following objectives:

  • Outline the benefits of becoming a data driven pricing strategy organization
  • Explore the challenges and limitation
  • How to get there: The path to becoming data driven pricing strategy organization

2. RESEARCH QUESTION(S)

            – General (1 research question)

            – Specific (max. 2-3 questions)

General question: What Does it mean to be A Data Driven Pricing Strategy Organization?

  • Specific questions:
    1. Why Data-Driven Organization is the Future of Pricing?
    2. Does Data-driven organizations foster internal collaboration (E.g., product development, SCM, sales management and etc.)?

3. RESEARCH METHOD | RESEARCH DESIGN

I will use the simplified model of research. I plan to answer the question based on literature and in case of limitation I might use empirical research (Interview with experts).

I have started the collection of data which is relevant to answer the questions of my research.

I am starting by collecting material from various articles and books. From this material I want to broader my understanding regarding problems, possible solution, use cases and further potentials. On top of external research, I will apply the knowledge I have acquired during the marketing module as well as from my new position.

Afterwards, I will start collecting material with further research in the field to build up the context of limitation and propose possible solution to it.

Write one or two paragraphs evaluating the policies of the United States to remain neutral while still supporting the Allies.

Description

Write one or two paragraphs evaluating the policies of the United States to remain neutral while still supporting the Allies. Be sure to use the information from the introduction and from the Chamberlain and Roosevelt excerpts to support your thinking. Remember that in order to evaluate, you will need to summarize the information and also make a decision about the policies, using facts to justify your decision.

What is the speaker speaking about (discern the subject or theme of the film you selected)?

Description Read the poem by Sherman Alexie entitled, The Powwow at the End of the World (1996). The Powwow at the End of the World As you prepare the 1-2 page short essay remember to create a header, heading, title and to include a Works Cited page. Your essay must be properly formatted using American Standard English and correct MLA formatting rules. Your essay should be written in paragraph format and answer all seven questions of the Dramatistic Mode of Analysis (see the document in the Modules link) Dramatistic Mode of Analysis. Additionally, you must answer the three questions that follow: 1. Who, in your opinion, is the “you” of the poem’s refrain? 2. What is it that the speaker is told he “must forgive”? 3. The tone of the poem is not overtly angry or bitter. Does that make its statement more effective or less so, in your judgement? Explain. Do Not use any external sources for this assignment. I am interested in how well you are able to answer the questions organically (using the poem itself as your source for analysis). There are a total of 10 questions (the three above and the seven DMA questions to answer). You should be able to include proof/evidence for your responses with lines from the poem itself. That means you will be incorporating in-text and parenthetical documentation. Write in prose (paragraph) format. Answer all of the questions fully, but do not exceed 2 pages of text. You will include a third page as your Works Cited page only. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47895/the‑powwow‑at‑the‑end‑of‑the‑world For each of the literary works you read in this class think bout these questions before you begin reading. As you read jot down notes so that record your thoughts as they come.  The Seven DMA Questions: Who is speaking (this refers to the character or persona whose we see in the film this is not necessarily the actor or writer)? What is the speaker speaking about (discern the subject or theme of the film you selected)? When is the speaker speaking (this refers to time of day or night, tear, month, season, etc.)? Where is the speaker speaking (determine a location, physical space, general and specific setting)? How is the speaker speaking (note what kind of language is used, take note of other stylistic elements)? Why is the speaker speaking (identify the purpose of the film’s creation)? To whom is the speaker speaking (who is the intended listener, the audience, who was this written for, etc.)? Also, after answering these questions initially, please determine if your position is: Certain (you can prove your position with the information noted in the film) Probable (there is an indirect reference made in the film) Possible (there is information that might suggest that the information could be true found in the text) or a Distortion (there is no support in the film for your position what so ever and you are just making things up as you go along). You should be able to support your positions with examples found in the content of the film itself. Provide in-text citations for your evidence. Do not use external sources for this project. Identify aspects of culture that are most important to each country.

For this week’s discussion read over this week’s resources carefully.

Consider that the president of your company has just told you that a multinational company is interested in purchasing a large amount of the products that you and your group are responsible for. You have been charged with meeting with the team from Brazil, India, Finland, and Nigeria hosting their visit, and negotiating the agreement, including pricing. A fellow worker is going to help you with the research, you will each research two of the country’s cultures.

  • What can you do to plan ahead and educate others about the international groups? Consider How do you communicate during the meeting with your colleagues?
  • What are some aspects of the social and business interactions that you will want you and your staff to avoid?
  • Identify aspects of culture that are most important to each country.

This should be from reliable sources (other than the textbook), and you need to reference the sources using proper APA Version 7 formatting.

How ready and extensive are the Australian regulations for smart cities technologies?

ASSIGNMENT 4: ETHICAL DESIGN REPORT SMART CITIES CASE STUDY The smart city concept has been around for more than a decade. While there have been various definitions, many adopt a common understanding that a smart city “is one whose economy and governance are driven by innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship” (Kitchin 2014). Thus smart cities developments are “typically grounded on a drive towards technological innovation to improve the lives of city-dwellers” (Ryan and Gregory, 2019). Smart cities technologies can provide many benefits such as sustainable environment, better healthcare, increased traffic efficiency and capacity amongst others. However, with the use of big data and complex technology i.e. networks of Internet of Things (IoT) orchestrated by artificial intelligence (AI), ethical concerns are often unavoidable and may be overlooked as cities strive to realise opportunities. With COVID 19 accelerating digital transformations in many aspects of public services, cities are faced with increasing challenges to ensure sustainability and safeguard citizens from unintended consequences of smart cities technologies. There have been efforts in ensuring the responsible and ethical use of smart city technologies. The G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance advocates for a concerted efforts in the adoption of better policies and governance in cities to improve their resilience in crisis, tackling the challenge in relation to “how data is secured, how people’s privacy is protected, how inclusion is ensured, and how different agencies and organizations can share data quickly.” (WEF, 2021). In this assignment, you will explore the design considerations of smart cities technologies from the perspectives of economy, technology, ethics, design, and regulation. You also need to consider how the next generation smart cities be regulated in Australia and/or elsewhere to enable a safer environment for everyone, especially the vulnerable groups (e.g., children, minority communities) rather than amplifying existing issues of its current system. These are the main questions to address in producing your report: ● What are the promises and potential of smart city technologies? What problems do they aim to address? What opportunities do they create? Who are the key stakeholders involved in their design, development and implementation? ● What ethical and human rights issues are associated with smart cities technologies? What is the responsible and ethical way in which smart cities technologies should be designed, developed, implemented and monitored? ● What existing and emerging regulatory and governance frameworks in the world and in Australia are applicable? How ready and extensive are the Australian regulations for smart cities technologies? What new governance initiatives might be required? ● Pick ONE of the five topics from lectures 7 to 12 and discuss the potential benefits, risks and challenges of smart cities deployments on your chosen topic. o Lecture 7, 10: Topic 1 (Surveillance and security) o Lecture 8: Topic 2 (Digital Humanitarian) 4 o Lecture 9: Topic 3 (Digital Health) o Lecture 11: Topic 4 (Coded bias) o Lecture 12: Topic 5 (Indigenous Data Sovereignty) LINKS These are the potential initial links for you to start your research with, along with the two standard references of the unit: ● Beard, M., & Longstaff, S.
