Summarize Overall, what new information have you learned, and/or how has this essay changed your thinking?

Select one classmate who has not received a peer review (document attached) and read through that classmate’s draft carefully. Using the “C.A.R.E.S” table below to guide your review. Remember these general rules when you are the reviewer: • Attend to higher-order concerns first: thesis, audience, purpose, organization, and development (support). • Attend to lower-order concerns next: sentence structure, punctuation, word choice, and spelling. • Make comments in the spirit of helpfulness (and if you’re the writer, take comments in the spirit of helpfulness). The least helpful comment a peer reviewer can offer is, “It looks good to me.” Use the following table to help you review your peers’ work. Please download the peer review table in MS Word format, complete it, and attach it to your post when you reply to a student whose paper you have reviewed. Writer:                                                              Reviewer: Criterion Details C: Congratulate What does the writer do well in this assignment? (List one or more aspects.) Also, please write the writer’s main claim or focus (thesis) according to what you have read. (It might not be the last sentence of the first paragraph, which is the traditional location of the thesis.) A: Ask clarifying questions What parts of the essay were a bit confusing? Why? What specific suggestions (give three or fewer) do you have for revising the unclear parts of this writing? (See the sample suggestions below this table.) R: Request more What other information about the topic would enhance the essay and support the thesis? E: Evaluate its value Which specific details do not work in the essay (for example, those that don’t support the thesis) or could be moved? S: Summarize Overall, what new information have you learned, and/or how has this essay changed your thinking? Here are a few examples of suggestions to make as a peer reader (make sure you identify which paragraph you’re discussing): • The thesis needs to better identify the main point of the essay. • The topic sentence needs to identify the main point of this paragraph. • Each paragraph needs one overarching idea (or needs more specific evidence/needs more of the writer’s commentary). • Avoid repeating words, repeating ideas, or repeating sentence structures. • Avoid using vague language or using slang. • Clearly identify your sources (if used). Remember: This is a graded discussion.

critically explore how you would care for someone with complex needs (physical, mental, social needs).
THE BRIEF/INSTRUCTIONS

·       Using a case study as a framework, critically explore how you would care for someone with complex needs (physical, mental, social needs). This should include consideration of collaborative working with patients and carers, working with other professionals, legal and ethical decision making, pharmacology and evidence-based interventions. A critical exploration of the evidence base should be evident.

Case study

Satya is a 27 year old woman of Asian origin. She has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Satya also has type 1 diabetes but doesn’t manage this well, her blood sugars are frequently high and has in the past had the occasional hypo, usually after getting drunk. She doesn’t seem to be overly worried about this. Lives with her daughter Crystal who is 12 years old and her partner Annabelle who has lived with them for the last year. Family have distanced themselves from Satya stating this is because of her ‘lifestyle choices’ and said that they want nothing to do with her.

Satya has been low in mood of late and recently attempted suicide by insulin overdose following a failed attempt to reinstate contact with her biological family. She was found by her daughter when she returned home from school, who called the ambulance. After being treated and assessed in A&E she was admitted to a psychiatric assessment unit. She had been on the ward, which is a notable distance from her home for three weeks. Last week, she had arranged to go and spend some time off the ward seeing her daughter but at the last minute she was told that the section 17 leave paperwork had not been signed. She became verbally hostile with a member of staff and she was physically restrained and as a result the leave did not go ahead and some staff are questioning if she should be allowed leave in future as she is ‘volatile’. Satya is still very angry about this incident.

Currently, Satya is taking Lithium which she has been taking since her last admission several years ago when she was first diagnosed. Whilst she is concordant with the Lithium and adjustments based on her blood tests her Lithium levels have been erratic. She has been tried on Fluoxetine in the past for her low mood and also was previously prescribed Olanzapine when she was in a manic phase.

Guidance

LO1 800 words.          Demonstrate the application of the nursing process in caring for people with complex mental health needs, their families and carers.

Complex needs: what is it? Needs to be collaborative, person-centred, and holistic. Then… medical diagnosis doesn’t necessarily mean that people with being complex or not, also that people might have an ongoing diagnosis such as bipolar, but their level of complexity and needs will change over time. Include the NMC code of conduct 2018)

Explain the stages of the nursing process. Critically discuss the Nursing process. Engagement (service user engagement with services, plans for treatment, etc.) What are the barriers and how can they be overcome with Satya.

Therapeutic relationship (TR) why is vital in Satya’s case how can TR be beneficial what are the barriers (restraining her, not signing her section 17, denying home leave can all impact the TR therefore to engagement and how this can be overcome, shortage of staff can be a reason for the above problems that have resulted in her section not been signed). Use of self. The power dynamic in planning. Involving family: can we? Capacity? Right to refuse. Is it moral and ethical? data protection, can we share information with family withy Satya explicit

Please talk about the NP that we will use for Satya, first define the NP (UK).. NP is a systematic approach…. 4 stages: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Mention all parts of the nursing process but concentrate on 1 or 2 in order to get this deep level or critical writing level 7, why we do it, what are the benefits, what are the barriers and how they can be overcome with Satya.

If its assessment (mental state examination (critique: subjective data, why) Formulation 5Ps or biosocial model (benefits and barriers, is dynamic needs updating) Consider risk factors from an internal and external perspective in relation to the service user: Is the risk factor stable? (e.g. history of child abuse)

Is the risk factor dynamic? ( e.g drug and alcohol use, current mental state)

Staff factors Organisational factors physical checks observation (objective data). If its physical observations what are you going to do to Satya and why (evidenced-based interventions NICE guidance UK sources)

If it is planning to identify the risks … collaborative risk management … therapeutic relationships, what are the barriers?

If its implementation: barriers safeguarding… consents,

To make the NP effective is to engage the patient and their family in the whole NP. Person-centred care (NICE guidance ref) is an integral part of the NP having the patient in the centre of the process. However, with Satya we have the barrier of her family being distanced from her because of her drinking and etc.. so engaging the family seems to be inecessaryto Satya but can be difficult if the family refuses especially in the early stages of the NP. In order to overcome this barrier, we need to build a therapeutic …relationship (TR) one sentence to define TR and why iit s Important. What are the berries to the TR (she may not share all the information, fear to put herself in a worse situation, losing her daughter or e.tc)

Nurses seem to be in a position of power when it comes to the power dynamic in planning however is crucial to involve the patient and make sure she is at the centre of any decision-making process, providing her with information and involving her family when possible and with Satya explicit consent (she has the capacity and flow nicely into ethics are legislation we have to assume capacity until assessments and formulation prove otherwise)

LO2 800 words: I put some info

Critically discuss the knowledge and skill required in order to refer people safely to other professionals within a range of health and social care organisations to deliver the best person-centred mental health outcomes.

Referrals, safeguarding (is it needed and if yes, why), collaborative working with services, why we do I,t why is important (NICE guidance recommends this way of working,) engagement and barriers to the engagement.. how can we overcome barriers (TR, communication, trust, consent, involving the patient). What is the benefits from working together: Patients will be empowered. Engage will increased. Responsibility for actions responsibility using the NMC code of conduct 2018). Motivator for change. Greater commitment to progress – positive outcomes? Working together is a part of the NHS long term plan reference the long term plan. How is this going to help Satya?

Department of Health (2008) emphasises the need for a focus on delivering person-centred mental healthcare and also repeats that crisis, contingency and risk management are an integral part of assessment and planning processes. There are 4 key points of the CPA Assessing the health and social needs of service users, Formation of a care plan which identifies the health and social care needs to be required, The role of a care coordinator, Regular review of the care plan. The nurse in charge -The role of care co-ordinator should usually be taken by the person who is best placed to oversee care planning and resource allocation. They should have a good relationship with the service user, be able to provide person-centred care, coordinate with others involved in the care process and have specific skills in relation to the service user’s needs. How is this going to benefit Satya

Therapeutic TR relationship is enhanced and, therefore recovery? TR … who are we going involve in Satya’s case and why. We need to make sure we address all care needs in the right places, and we also need to follow up and make sure we track the process. Who are we going to involve and, why, c? Concentrate 2/3 referrals that you can justify the reason for? What skills the nurse needs to have.

Skills needed. Disempowerment of the individual may result in a failure to foster a sense of responsibility and positive agency, thereby potentially acting to enhance rather than mitigate risk—shift in the way that risk is viewed. (from paternalistic, clinician-directed care towards patient engagement, autonomy, and choice, where patients are supported to make informed decisions).

‘Done to’ (where the patient is a passive recipient of judgment and management strategies) Vs ‘Done in collaboration with’. The role of the clinicians within this model is to support the process of recovery by empowering the patient to broaden the scope of his autonomy and sharing the responsibility for decisions about care and treatment. Independent Review of the MHA recommends ‘shared decision-making between clinicians and patients and that these should be used to develop care and treatment plans and to make treatment decisions as far as is practicable. A mutually respectful and trusting relationship is an essential part of SDM; however, a psychiatric patient may only be able to reciprocate when their illness is under control. Once certain symptoms (especially suspiciousness and paranoia) develop, the patient’s ability to trust their clinician may be compromised. ‘Statutory advance choice documents should be created that enable people to make a range of choices and statements about their inpatient care and treatment’

Drinking (why is she drinking is it a coping strategy what can we do to help her.. provide information, signpost, support, and encourage, however wise or unwise Satya’s decisions may seem once she is proven with capacity the decisions lays with her? diabetic nurse specialist? social workers/safeguarding the child, contacting the school etc. therapist what dose NICE guidance recommends for ppl like Satya. Alcohol promotion health

Cultural needs and what are the barriers (Asian, cultural needs, family view)

Mention person-centred, and autonomy. What can make her not go to those referrals and how can it be overcome (TR, communication). Justify decisions for referrals.

So now we have all those services involved in the care of Satya now we need to make sure that excellent leadership are in place for the nurse ca coordinator to ensure that communication between services and back to Satya is taking place. As there are some barriers when too many services are involved in the care of a patient with complex MH needs, WHAT ARE THOSE Barriers and how we can overcome them (therapeutic relationship). Mention that they qualify for financial aid PIP that the nurse can support (non-maleficence comes in this).

LO3

Justify care decisions which take into account the safeguarding of vulnerable people. 700 words

Presenting factors and facts: capacity UK, the impact of care decisions UK (compare with the presenting situation and future. Autonomy.

Laws (MH act) principals and act applicable to her case and why… here consider ethics (was it in her best interest for her to be secluded, what does seclusion involve, what was the best thing to be done with her). Also, the least restrictive practice that we must follow, are beneficence, and non-maleficence (poor experience on the ward by patients is the case with Satya). What was the reason for Satya’s aggressive reaction, was it preventable (escalation phase). What are her rights? Is there anything in ger history to indicate risk? Mention Positive risk-taking? Four of the six safeguarding principles, The Four P’s-Partnership, Prevention, Proportionality (was it proportional, why) and Protection

Lo4 750 word

Integrate knowledge of biosciences and pharmacology when engaging in the collaborative evaluation of care and have the confidence to make changes to mental health nursing care using best available evidence.

Showcase knowledge of medication.

Start with talking about bipolar and type 1 diabetes and bi polar and her current medications, don’t forget to mention the risk of her suicide attempt by overdose with insulin and her erratic Lithium levels. Information about the medication is provided bellow.

What she is currently on medication wise, and what is the evidence saying in the Uk about other treatment options that the nurse may Consider. Identify eds work Lithium, how is taking what is involve (blood tests sct.) – evidence-based, any alternatives we use in the UU for Bipolar, side effects. Was the previous treatment successful can we add the fluoxetine again, can they be mixed, what about drinking alcohol with those meds? MDT referral meeting and discussion about meds, inclusive decision, including Satya. Also, how is diabetes type 1 treated in the UK are there any other alternatives. polypharmacy, meaning, action.

Talk about alcohol Misuse & Dual Diagnosis in relation to her.

The medication we recommend must fit with the individual’s lifestyle, health history and personal situation. The newer forms of anti-depressants appear to have the increased focus in terms of research and efficacy, one would encourage a transparent conversation focused on the needs of the individual prior to making any such suggestions.

How do we asses and manage side effects of medications? Example Prescribed medication needs to be person-centred and a collaborative process. Education should be an ongoing

process – patients may not be in a good place to take on board everything that

is said to them at the start of treatment

Advice can change – keep up to date -to update your patient!

Make a list with your patient on previous medication and side effects they have had – including dates taken, dosages, benefits and side effects. Make a list of the symptoms they wish

their treatment to target. Obtain a base line of current physical, psychological, neurological and mental

complaints- it is important to ascertain if these symptoms were absent or

present prior to commencing treatment. However; Much of the literature you see written about the nursing process refers to ‘diagnosis’. This comes particularly from US sources and refers to ‘NURSING DIAGNOSIS’. A nursing diagnosis differs from a medical diagnosis as it focuses less on the individual’s symptoms and much more on their needs. These needs may indeed be viewed entirely from a holistic point of view. It is much more accurate for nurses within the mental health field to use the term ‘FORMULATION’. So that may include: What are the person’s holistic needs, how can we support them & who else can offer this help?

Fluoxetine 20 – 60 mg Prozac, Olena (dispersible) Also used for Bulimia, OCD, Menopausal symptoms

Gastro-intestinal effects

Serotonin Syndrome
Glaucoma
Insomnia
Mania
Anxiety
Suicidal behaviour
Urinary incontinence
Abnormal dreams
Rashes – can be a sign of hypersensitivity

NICE guidance recoomends Mild Depression

Low intensity CBT / Computerised CBT / Group CBT, structured group physical activity programme, Sleep hygiene

Moderate Depression

CBT

Interpersonal psychotherapy

Behavioural activation

Couple’s therapy

Medication – SSRI recommended

Bipolar Lithium is a mood stabiliser prescribed Long term management

Psychological therapy, Lithium first choice, Valproate 2nd choice

Lithium citrate and Lithium carbonate – not the same and do not have the same dosages.

Regular blood tests are needed to ensure that blood lithium levels are high enough to have a therapeutic effect and low enough to avoid toxicity. 0.4 – 1 mmol/ l – therapeutic

1.5+ potentially fatal. Dosage guided by lithium levels

Due to risks of toxicity – kidney function, thyroid function, weight, and BMI testing/recording should be completed PRIOR to commencing lithium. NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen) should be avoided.

Diabetes

This is due to the body not producing any/ enough insulin, or the body’s cells don’t react to insulin.

Type 1

Insulin injections

Insulin pump

There are many different types of insulin, each with their own

things we must consider. However, some types insulins are extracted from pigs or cows which make

them unsuitable for Satya depending on her religious beliefs. People with

type 1 diabetes have to think about this for everything they eat or drink so in her case Alcohol is affect her conditions.

Design and critically evaluate an appropriate dissemination strategy for the research project discussed in Sutton (2021).

Assignment Guide

The word length of TMA 04 is 1900 words (excluding your title and list of references). Before starting work for this TMA, you should:

This assignment is based on EK313 Block 4.

During your study of Block 4 you have considered various approaches to disseminating research findings and the approaches taken by different researchers. In Unit 22 you worked through a number of activities relating to designing a dissemination strategy. In this assignment you will build on the work you did in Block 4 in order to design and critically evaluate an appropriate dissemination strategy for a specific research project.

Design and critically evaluate an appropriate dissemination strategy for the research project discussed in Sutton (2021).

Main sources

You will need to refer to:

Sutton, C. (2021) ‘What counts as happiness for young people: a qualitative study’, Children and Society, 35(1), pp. 18–33.

And a minimum of two sources from the module material.

Below is a list of module material that you may find useful in completing this TMA; you are not required to use all the material in this list. You must refer to the research article by Sutton (2021).

  • Block 4 Units 18–22
  • Module Reader Chapter 15 by Robb – cite as (Robb, 2014) in your assignment
  • Module Reader Chapter 16 by Ruxton – cite as (Ruxton, 2014) in your assignment
  • Module Reader Chapter 17 by Pascal and Bertram – cite as (Pascal and Bertram, 2014) in your assignment
  • Module Reader Chapter 18 by Mann, Liley and Kellett – cite as (Mann, Liley and Kellett, 2014) in your assignment.

You may also refer to material studied earlier in the module, either other chapters in the Module Reader or online sources. All sources must be referenced using the Cite Them Right referencing system (as specified in Section 5.6 of the Assessment Guide).

Suggested approach

In this assignment you will focus on both designing and critically evaluating a dissemination strategy for a study into what constitutes happiness from young people’s perspectives. The study explored aspects of young people’s feelings about happiness using a mixed methods approach to identify and address a range of issues.

You are provided with a reference to an external source reporting this research: Sutton (2021) and you need to use this article which you can locate and access using the search skills you developed in TMA 03. Use the OU Library search facility to first find the journal title, then use the information in the reference to navigate to the correct volume and issue in order to locate the article. Once you have located the article, download a copy to your own computer and read it.

The TMA task asks you to design and critically evaluate an appropriate dissemination strategy for the research project by Sutton (2021). As you read the article, make a note of aspects of the research and research findings you consider should be disseminated to the research community and also to others who might be interested in this research study. You should pay particular attention to dissemination strategies for the young people who took part in the research and how you might present the data to them in an informative, useful and ethical way. As you read, note other factors that you think may be of interest or relevance, for example, you may wish to read the research findings and recommendations in some detail and consider whether these are specific to the location, or the age group, where and with whom the research was undertaken or whether they might have relevance elsewhere. Ask yourself:

  • Why does research matter? (Be clear about how and why a particular piece of research is significant.)
  • Who are the audiences for the research? (Be clear the research can be important and relevant in all kinds of different ways to a range of different audiences.)
  • Who would be interested in the research findings and how they might they be made aware of them? Here it is important to consider the role of the young people who took part in the research and how (or if) the findings should be disseminated to them.
  • You should also keep in mind the ethics of dissemination. If you are disseminating widely, how will you ensure anonymity? If you are disseminating to a small part (such as those who took part in the research), how would you ensure confidentiality?

Before starting your TMA, you are advised to review your notes from Section 2 of Unit 22. Take time to consider who the potential audiences are for this study, which findings are relevant to which audience(s) and how might each audience be reached.

Although it is not necessary to find out about the researcher who carried out the project, you might be interested to know that this article was based on the work done for a recent PhD in Childhood Studies at The Open University. The article does not cover the actual ways the project was disseminated or any impacts it had. However that is not relevant to this assigment: you are being asked to think about how the results of this study could potentially be disseminated clearly, efficiently and ethically to all the the relevant audiences. Your assignment will be marked according to:

  • how well you are able to identify suitableaudiences for the research – who should hear about the findings of this research?
  • how realisticyour plans for reaching those audiences are – how might different audiences be engaged?
  • how well you think through the practicaland ethical problems involved in disseminating the research.

The assignment not only asks you to design an appropriate dissemination strategy but also to critically evaluate it. In order to do this, you will need to refer to at least two sources from the module material in reflecting on your strategy. What are the strengths and limitations of your strategy? How does each part of the dissemination strategy contribute to the whole? Is your strategy appropriate for the different audiences you identify?

The TMA builds on key material discussed in Block 4. These brief notes may be useful as you consider which module sources to use in your TMA. In Chapter 15 of the Module Reader, Robb focuses on the different types of discourse within childhood and youth research that reflect the different approaches researchers employ to share their work with a range of audiences across academic, policy and practice arenas. Robb highlights how research dissemination is an important consideration for researchers during the planning stages of their research. Getting research into policy and practice, however, is not a straightforward task. In Chapter 16 of the Module Reader, Ruxton, and in Chapter 17, Pascal and Bertram, provide detailed examples of the complex process of linking research with policy and practice and the different strategies that can be used for engagement and dissemination.

Although this study may appear somewhat removed from the small-scale study you will design in your EMA project, similar principles apply and you will be able to use understanding developed here in Part 3 of your EMA.

Suggested structure

There are many ways of structuring this assignment, including choosing whether to write an essay or a planning document, utilising sub-headings, tables, bullet points and other formatting devices. These suggestions do not have to be followed, but may be helpful if you are unsure how to approach writing this assignment.

Remember – An essay begins with careful and efficient planning. An essay plan helps you organise your ideas and design a strategy that communicates appropriate information to the relevant audiences.

  • In your introduction you could briefly describe the study described by Sutton (2021) and explain the main aims of your suggested dissemination strategy.
  • You could then explain the significance of the research and identify the audiences to whom the research findings are relevant. How and why is the research significant to different groups of research users? Who else may be interested in these research findings? What are the potential barriers to reaching particular audiences? Are there other potential difficulties to overcome?
  • You could then set out your suggested dissemination strategy. What will you be communicating to each of the audiences you have identified? How will you reach those audiences? Do not simply list and describe each element within the broader strategy, but provide details of howand why the different elements of the strategy will enable the results of the research to be communicated effectively and usefully to the different audiences. Consider the use of varied channels to engage with an audience and to facilitate communication and impact.
  • You also need to critically evaluateeach of the elements in your strategy. You might do this either when discussing the different elements of the strategy or in a separate section of your TMA. Think about the practical and ethical problems involved in implementing the strategy, and show that you are aware of the limits of what researchers can achieve.
  • Finally, in a short conclusion, summarise the aims of your dissemination strategy and reflect on how effective you think it would be in meeting those aims.
  • Note that this TMA asks you to critically evaluate your dissemination strategy. If you are unsure what ‘critically’ means in this context, you may find it useful to refer to the Open University Study Skills booklet ‘Thinking critically’ (available from the OU study skills website).
  • Add a list of references, drawing on the Cite Them Right referencing system (as specified in the Section 5.6 of the Assessment Guide). The reference list must contain a correct reference to the specified journal article.
  • The assignment title and list of references are not counted in the 1900 wordlength of this assignment.
  • Give your word count at the end of your essay, before your reference list.

ESSAY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS & GRADING RUBRIC

3. Essay Instructions, Rubric.docx Page 1 of 2 rev. 12/29/2021

Format: Write a 5-page paper (dbl-spaced, Times New Roman 12-pt font, 1-in. margins) with

5 headings as described below. Cover 3 themes using 6 different readings for this class to

illustrate the 3 themes in the following way: an “Introduction” that defines the two types of

literature Ryken defines in Realms of Gold from Week 1, followed by 3 headings, each with a

different theme and illustrated by at least one reading from each type of literature: Imaginative

(i.e., fiction) and Historical (i.e., non-fiction). Your RR Themes, Connections, and Quotations

should provide the basic content for these three headings of the Essay between the Introduction

and Conclusion, but be sure to use descriptive headings, as in the “Putting It Together” section

below. Your “Conclusion” then summarizes your findings. Again, your basic format is this:

1. Introduction (refer to Ryken’s discussion about truth in imaginative vs. historical works)

2. Theme 1 with 2 illustrations (reword this heading to indicate your 1st theme)

3. Theme 2 with 2 illustrations (reword this heading to indicate your 2nd theme)

4. Theme 3 with 2 illustrations (reword this heading to indicate your 3rd theme)

5. Conclusion (summarize the value in reading classical texts with a biblical perspective for it)

Choosing Themes for Headings 2–4: Use themes from your RRs, or choose others, just be sure

each theme can be illustrated using readings from each type of literature, imaginative and

historical. If you can’t decide, use p. 9 of the HOI-2 Reader for examples, and here more:

• The good or bad qualities in a

human or divine characters

• Divine actions in the world

• Fate/Destiny/Determinism

• Age/Gender/Race

• Friendship/Sex/Love/Family

• Virtues a culture esteems

• Vices a culture condemns

• Leadership/Heroism

• Political structures/Govts

• Religious acts/structures

Animals/Foods/War tactics

Two Types of Literature: Imaginative & Historical: Each theme must be illustrated by

examples and quotes from the readings, one from each type of literature, imaginative & historical.

Use different readings each time—for example, do not refer to The Iliad twice, only once.

Imaginative/Fictional

The Epic of Gilgamesh

Homer, The Iliad or The Odyssey

Aeschylus, Agamemnon

———, Libation Bearers

———, The Eumenides

The Bhagavad Gita

Virgil, The Aeneid

Historical/Non-fiction

Herodotus, Histories

Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Plutarch, Lycurgus

———, Solon

———, Julius Caesar

———, Cato the Younger

Thucydides’ Peloponnesian War

A total of 7 assigned readings must be referenced in the Essay: Ryken + 3 Imaginative + 3 Historical

Putting It Together: In your Introduction, use Ryken’s way to explain how truth is found in both

imaginative and historical works. In your headings for 3 different themes, explain how each type

of literature reveals truth about it. For example, your first heading could be something like this:

Pride in Agamemnon and Histories and you describe how King Agamemnon in Aeschylus’s play

compares to King Croesus in Herodotus’s Histories, using quotes to support your comments. This

is not a research paper, so no footnotes are required, but simply place text locations in parentheses

like this (Homer, Iliad 1:23). A second heading might be Weather in Homer’s Odyssey and Sun

Tzu’s Art of War, or another might address leadership, friendship, family, etc., using texts like

Gilgamesh compared to one of Plutarch’s Lives.

What’s the difference between a correlation and a regression?

Research Methods: Regression

  1. What’s the difference between a correlation and a regression? (3)
  2. How would you describe the differences between a simple and multiple regression? (3)
  3. In your dataset, run a simple regression analysis on whether age can predict nicotine dependence. a. What is the IV? (1)
  4. What is the DV? (1)
  5. Write up your results here. (7)
  6. Run a multiple regression looking at whether alcohol at baseline and weight at baseline can predict blood pressure and report the results. (10)
  7. List the assumptions you’re checking and how you’re checking them. (25)

What is the importance of an Eigenvalue in questionnaire development?

Please refer to the scenario below:

You have been hired to develop a new measure for Vaccine Adherence. You are rushing to complete the measure and more than 2000 participants have taken part. Your research team are confident that it will provide an exciting future for those working in vaccination uptake.

Information from the participants that have completed the measure is included in the Scenario 4 Dataset.

  1. Prior to assessing the data, explain what the difference between Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis is. You should do this in no more than 3 sentences. (5)
  2. You have the responsibility for the measure development, and there are some important things for you to note during this process. Report how you would go about assessing whether you have a strong measure, in relation to the dataset. Consider all of the options available to you, and why you are selecting those in particular. Show your understanding of the different options. (20)
  3. What is the importance of an Eigenvalue in questionnaire development? (3)
  4. Now consider the Cronbach’s Alpha on the items.
  5. What is a Cronbach’s Alpha? (3)
  6. Would you be better off removing any items? How do you know this? (4)
  7. What are your next steps? Please justify (5)
  8. Going back to your research team, in a very brief few sentences, how would you summarise what you have just done and how many items do you think there should be in this measure in order for it to be the most robust? (10)
