recommend a plan for financing investments that does not expose LGI to unnecessary risk.

Project 5: Cost of Capital, Risk/Return, and Capital Budgeting

Scenario

Your team’s work with Largo Global Inc. (LGI) is nearly complete. In your consulting role, you have recommended steps for improving the company’s financial health. You have offered advice on a revenue target, recommended steps for optimizing operations, and suggested investments that will improve LGI’s competitive position. In your final project, you will continue working on capital budgeting with a focus on the best way for LGI to finance the investments you recommend.

Your Project 5 business report will focus on ensuring LGI’s capital structure is sound and that the company is on a financially sustainable path. You will recommend a plan for financing investments that does not expose LGI to unnecessary risk. By the end of this project, the company’s financial statements should demonstrate that it has returned to a competitive position.

Step 1: Prepare for the Project

For the next two weeks, you will focus on the concepts of risk and return, the cost of capital, and capital budgeting. You will ensure that the financing plan you recommend supports LGI’s long-term financial position. Log into O’Reilly by following these instructions and complete the required reading.

Required Reading

Parrino, R., Kidwell, D. S., & Bates, T. W. (2012). Fundamentals of Corporate Finance (2nd ed.) Wiley.

Chapter 7: Risk and Return

  • Section 7.1 to 7.7

Chapter 10: The Fundamentals of Capital Budgeting

  • Sections 10.1 to 10.6

Chapter 13: The Cost of Capital

  • Sections 13.1 to 13.4

Recommended Reading

Clayman, M. R., Fridson, M. S., & Troughton, G. H. (2012). Corporate Finance: A Practical Approach (2nd. ed.). Wiley.

Step 2: Review and Practice

Using the Project 5 Review and Practice Guide, review the options for financing investments available to LGI. Then, apply what you have learned by completing the exercises and problems referenced in the Project 5 Review and Practice Guide.

You must review the guide and do the practice exercises and problems so that you

  • are prepared to have informed discussions with your team about capital structure and appropriate leverage,
  • understand risk and return,
  • can make recommendations for financing LGI’s investments, and
  • can complete your mission, turning around LGI.

Complete this review and practice by the end of Week 9.

Step 3: Participate in the Required Project 5 Discussion

You have finished reviewing the material and performing the exercises, but you have some questions. Participate in the Project 5 class discussion. Respond to the two questions below by posting in the discussion; then, respond to two of your classmates’ discussion posts by the end of the week.

Step 4: Complete the Analysis Calculation for Project 5

Your team has provided you with an Excel workbook containing LGI’s financials. You will use the Project 5 Excel workbook to perform advanced capital budgeting techniques to assess the viability of the investment you made in the previous project.

Complete the analysis calculation for the project:

  • Download the Project 5 Excel Workbook, click the Instructions tab, and read the instructions.
  • Calculate cost of debt and equity as well as weighted average cost of capital (WACC).
  • Apply the capital asset pricing model (CAPM).
  • Develop a capital budget.

If you would like instructor feedback on this step, submit your Excel file to the Assignments folder as a milestone by the end of Week 9. This is optional. If you choose to submit the milestone, you will receive instructor feedback you may use to make corrections before submitting your final Project 5. To distinguish the milestone submission from the file you will submit in Step 5, label your file as follows: P5_milestone_lastname_Calculation_date

  • You should use the comments your instructor made about your optional milestone submission to revise your calculations as needed. Next, proceed to Step 5, where you will answer questions about your analysis, make recommendations for LGI, and compile and submit your final report.

Step 5: Prepare the Analysis Report for Project 5

You have developed an in-depth understanding of LGI’s operating efficiency related to costing and how that impacts the bottom line. You feel confident that your investment choices will positively boost LGI’s productivity and improve the company’s operations. Thanks to your efforts, the company will have a plan for financing its investments appropriately. LGI will finally be on a path of a sustainable future. Answer the questions in the Project 5 Questions – Report Template document. Prepare your analysis report including recommendations for how the company can improve its financial situation.

mention some benefits of physical activity on the cardiovascular system due to the effects on risk factors such as blood pressure, lipid profile, insulin resistance, cells and tissues of the heart, the circulatory system and obesity.

Lecture topics:

  • Respiratory muscle training and vasomotor response

Angela Valentina Bisconti et al (2018) ‘Respiratory muscle training positively affects vasomotor response in young healthy women’, PLoS ONE 13(9), pp 1-14

  • The introduction of the article mentioned some benefits of physical activity on the cardiovascular system due to the effects on risk factors such as blood pressure, lipid profile, insulin resistance, cells and tissues of the heart, the circulatory system and obesity. This is because regular physical exercise promotes structural and functional adaptations to the vascular wall which leads to a reduction in cardiovascular risk factors. The article went on to mention some physical activities and its specific benefit. The research was therefore aimed at using respiratory muscle training (RMT) to benefit peripheral hemodynamics in other areas which are not exercised to improve vascular health for individuals with less or no physical activities.

They concluded that after eight weeks of RMT in young female population, vasomotor response was improved but mainly through amelioration of the peripheral vascular control brought about by release of local vasoactive factors. The autonomic central neural control was not affected by RMT. They recommended future studies to be done to fully elucidate the mechanisms underpinning these RMT-induced modifications. I think the idea of the research is excellent but more work need to be done before we can achieve the intended benefits.

what is alveoli and its role in respiration?

The Respiratory System in Health and Disease

All the body systems work together for our survival. The respiration system indeed plays important roles like homeostasis, defensive mechanism, vocalization and respiratory gas exchange. This lecture reminded me of how all the roles come together every second of our lives and how in a defective state can be life threatening. The study of the functions of the respiratory system in its health state aids in an early prognosis of the specific part affected in a disease state.

I have come to appreciate the brain’s role in the control of respiration with the use of chemoreceptors to detect hypoxia, respiratory acidosis and hypercapnia. When the arterial blood gases are not maintained at normal values under normal physiological condition, it is termed as respiratory failure. The lecture helped me to understand that respiratory failure can be due to either low arterial oxygen which is termed as hypoxia or high arterial carbon dioxide which is termed as hypercapnia. The main respiratory diseases can be group under obstructive, restrictive, infectious, lung cancer and vascular lung disease. Lung function test together with patient history, physiological findings and laboratory tests can be used to distinguish between these respiratory diseases. As biomedical scientists, we play an important role to help with the diagnosis of a specific respiratory disease by the laboratory results we help generate.

Question: what is alveoli and its role in respiration?

think critically about how law/policy/guidance may cause tensions with social work ethics, and how any such tensions could be resolved.
  1. Values and Ethics
  • Please think critically about how law/policy/guidance may cause tensions with social work ethics, and how any such tensions could be resolved. In doing so you will be expected to draw upon specific codes of ethics and relevant research/literature.

Identify the relevant values and ethics (as defined by codes of ethics) that a social worker may draw upon when carrying out their roles and responsibilities.

In your responses you will also be expected to pay attention to:

  1. Structure, Writing, Presentation and Grammar
  • Please check your work carefully paying particular attention to spelling, punctuation and grammar. If this is an area where you know you struggle,
  • Please plan your work carefully. Make sure that your workflows in a logical order building clear arguments
  • Please think carefully how you structure your work. I would advise that you separate your work out into three sections – one for each person/people you are required to consider. However, this is only a recommendation and if you would rather structure your work in a different way this is up to you.

Please do not split your work into different sub-headings related to the grading criteria (above). This is likely to result in a disjointed response which lacks the necessary depth.

Consider how the social worker might use their role to uphold the service user’s rights
  1. The Rights of Those Involved
  • Critically consider the rights of the service user(s) as defined by law and whether these provide any tensions with the law/policy/guidance the social worker might use.
  • Consider how the social worker might use their role to uphold the service user’s rights
  • You will be expected to be able to cite specific rights as set out in legislation. This may include Human Rights Legislation as well as rights within other legislation.

You may find it useful to draw on relevant research and literature to consider how rights can be upheld, whilst the social worker also carried out their statutory responsibilities.

What is the role and responsibilities of the social worker AS DEFINED BY LAW/POLCIY/GUIDANCE AND PROFESSIONAL REGULATION in relation to this specific service user?
  1. The Role and Responsibilities of the Social Worker
  • What is the role and responsibilities of the social worker AS DEFINED BY LAW/POLCIY/GUIDANCE AND PROFESSIONAL REGULATION in relation to this specific service user?
  • This is NOT asking you to provide a care plan for the service user (e.g., “the social worker should provide a carer”) and it is NOT asking you for an in-depth exploration of the approach a social worker might take (e.g., a person-centred approach) – though if you want to briefly mention an approach which might fit with the social worker’s role/responsibilities this is fine.
  • Please consider the social worker’s role/responsibilities critically, drawing on evidence from relevant research and literature

Please remember that the professional regulator is Social Work England (SWE) not HCPC/GSCC/any other body. Many (but not all) social workers are members of BASW (British Association of Social Work) and those who are would be expected to follow BASW’s code of ethics. The NASW is not applicable as this is an American organisation.

What specific law, policy and guidance the social worker might use when working with this person.
  1. Law, Policy and Guidance
  • What specific law, policy and guidance the social worker might use when working with this person. You will need to provide evidence to justify your decision referring to the law/policy itself and referring to appropriate relevant research and literature.
  • It may not always be clear which law/policy/guidance (or section of law/policy/guidance) is most applicable – there may be different options that could be used. If this is the case you will need to explore the different options, drawing on appropriate relevant research and literature to analyse the different option.
  • When drafting your answer please remember to consider law AND policy AND guidance and consider what is appropriate. In some cases, all three may be relevant, in other cases only one.
  • Please remember that law includes both legislation and case law. In some cases, both may apply, in other cases only one of these may apply.

Discuss why Understanding the issue of pre-eclampsia is essential to reducing mortality and morbidity among pregnant women and improving care for women diagnosed with the condition.

Effects Of the Problem

If left untreated, pre-eclampsia has many complications, affecting both the mother and the newborn. One of the complications includes fetal growth restriction due to interference in blood circulation caused by pre-eclampsia as inadequate blood supply, oxygen, and nutrients to the placenta result in slow growth of the fetus (Staff, 2019). Secondly, there is also a likelihood of low birth weight as the condition may lead to early delivery before the gestation period. Premature babies have breathing difficulties, feeding challenges, and may have delayed vision or hearing. In addition, placental abruption can occur, and this causes the placenta to separate from the uterus lining before delivery. In severe cases, placental abruption leads to severe bleeding, which is life-threatening (Witcher, 2018). The development of eclampsia characterized by seizures can also occur, and organ damage to organs like kidneys, heart, eyes, liver, and the lungs. In some cases, it could lead to brain injury. These complications are life-threatening and can cause death.

Significance Of the Topic and Implication for Nursing Practice

Understanding the issue of pre-eclampsia is essential to reducing mortality and morbidity among pregnant women and improving care for women diagnosed with the condition. Nurses play a significant role during the pregnancy journey by educating and supporting the mother on pre-eclampsia (Alnuaimi et al.,2020).
