As a result of this specific experience, what can you conclude more generally about yourself and your career planning journey?

Description
Details of the event: In the UK, 16% of all academic staff with a known ethnicity are Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME), only 10% are Professors and fewer than 1% of Professors are Black. BAME students represent just 17% of UK based postgrad research students*. If you’re considering a career as an academic, or thinking about applying for a research PG qualification come along to this session and hear from our panel of academics, across different disciplines, talk about how they’ve broken the glass ceiling and learn their top tips for success. Please note: consider the following things when you write the reflection: Tips for writing the reflective statements: The reflective statements should not simply describe what you did/heard when you attended the event/workshop/session, they should focus mainly on the outcomes of these and demonstrate your reflective critical thinking afterwards. The most effective way of doing this is by using the experiential learning cycle, which should include: • Description: very brief and concise description of the activity being reflected on (the title of the session will likely suffice) • Reflection: e.g. How well did it go? What were your thoughts and feelings at the time? What have you achieved? Did you experience any problems in relation to the activity? Did you discuss them with anyone? What was good about the experience, what was bad? What was difficult, what was easy? Why (for all of the above)? • Generalisation: e.g. What have you learnt from the activity/experience? As a result of this specific experience, what can you conclude more generally about yourself and your career planning journey? Why does it matter? • Future: If you repeat the activity/experience (or a similar one) tomorrow/next week/next year…what would you do? Is there anything you would do differently? Would you change your future behaviours as a result of this experience? Why and how (for all of the above)? n.b. it is not necessary to include the above subheadings in your text. The above are prompts only. Within the word count allowed you cannot explore all these questions so choose the most significant aspects for you to explore.
