How was the media portraying early radical environmental movements of the 1970’s and beyond?

hello,
My research question although not very clear but you have the freedom to tweak it as you see most fitting. Below are some questions that I think will help you understand my topic. Social media has to be a main focus of my study in some way.
My research question should be based on your understanding of the following questions:
How was the media portraying early radical environmental movements of the 1970’s and beyond? Was the mainstream media helpful in spreading their intentions behind their illigal radical direct action? Were they successful in creating the change they fought for.
How did the use of social media help modern radicals environmentalists portray themselves without their need for mainstream media to share their stories, or are they still in need of mainstream news?
Has the use of social media helped with their cause or are their actions of civil disobedience (glueing themselves and throwing paint on famous art work) hurting the cause. Is social media helping in recruiting new members for these radical environmental groups.
