3000-5000 word paper on an intelligence case study (foreign or American) or an aspect of intelligence you find compelling, to be chosen in consultation with the instructor. The subject will complement/illuminate the subjects covered in the course. This paper will be a readable and interesting short academic research paper, with footnotes/endnotes and a bibliography. My topic of choice is: How China Steals/Counter-steals US intelligence. You can freely choose whether to focus on stealing intelligence or counter-stealing, you can only choose one. Also, I would suggest however that you try to focus it a bit since the paper is not very long. So maybe focus on a specific type of activity, or some specific cases. Professors will be looking for more specific topics rather than broad texts. It is therefore important to be able to find specific cases as research objects.
