Description of Assessment

The student will be required to:

  • Build on skills, knowledge and understanding gained in the previous courses, and demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and evaluate an aspect of literature relevant to paramedic practice
  • Demonstrate a thorough and systematic understanding of research processes and critiquing skills throughout the review,
  • Develop and utilise information and communication technology in order to maintain an understanding of recent innovations and development in care
  • based on evidence outlined, propose and justify a set of recommendations for practice at local level

The wordcount for this project is 7,500 (plus or minus 10%)

The overall pass mark for this module is 40%

In addition, students are required to address all of the module intended learning outcomes in the project in order to pass this module.

 

 

The Learning Outcomes for this module are:

  1. Demonstrate critical understanding of subject-specific knowledge through the generation of a research-based project.
  2. Critically analyse the interface between theory and practice.
  3. Critically evaluate key primary and secondary sources.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to organise and structure critical discussion and supporting evidence into a coherent research project that promotes new ideas and thinking.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and critically reflect on the individual journey through a small research-based project.

 

 

 

Project Presentation Requirements

Page Numbering

Pages should be numbered, 1 onwards from first page of text, in the centre and at the foot of each page and should continue to the end, including appendices.

Paper size, spacing and margins

  • A4 paper size to be used, the font face should be Arial (or similar sans-serif font) at 11 points, double line spaced.
  • The reference list should begin on a new page, using single line spacing; appendices should begin on a new page and be single line spaced where possible.
  • Left Margin (binding edge)        40mm
  • Other Margins                             20mm

There should be:

  • A title page, which contains the title of the review, the student’s name and ID number, and the word count.
  • An abstract of no more than 500 words (not included in the word limit) which includes an outline of the topic reviewed, the scope of the review in terms of breadth of the literature search, a summary of the main issues addressed and arising, conclusions drawn and recommendations for further investigation, and practice development.
  • Acknowledgements to organisations, supervisors, advisors and others who have contributed to the review.
  • A table of contents with chapter headings and sub-headings, references, and appendices.
  • The main review, divided into appropriate chapters, references, and appendices (see below).
