Description of Assessment Task and Purpose: You are required to submit a 3000-word (+ or -10%) essay reflecting on a practice placement experience. The experience (an individual case, or a scenario) must be one that you were involved with as a nursing student on this programme and should be within your given field of practice. The purpose of this essay is to assess your ability to reflect on your clinical practice and to develop your reflective writing skills in preparation for being a Registered Nurse with the NMC.

You must include the following elements to meet the associated learning outcomes:

• Identify an experience whereby you assessed and prioritised care (with links to other services and professionals) using a shared decision-making approach (LO1, LO4)
• Reflect on your role in the experience; and appraise the quality of the nursing care provided by you, others and services involved (LO3, LO5)
• Embed literature throughout the reflective piece (using the Harvard referencing system)
  to assess whether the care and any medicines management practices involved were safe, effective and of high quality (LO6). You must incorporate a discussion on pharmacology and the skills involved with delivery of care.
• Explain the requirement to monitor, evaluate and reassess care (LO1); and discuss the actions taken when quality of care is affected (including report risks, behaviours, errors, duty of candour, courage and transparency; LO2).’
