This module aims to:
- • Contribute to students’ abilities to reflect on historical and current educational theory and practice
- • Enable students to develop an understanding of, and analytical approach to the development of the current primary curriculum
- • Develop and evaluate the social, political and pedagogic factors that have influenced the development of the primary curriculum
- • Examine, with reference to research on pedagogy, how some curricula aimed at primary school children impact learning
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the module students will be able to:
- • Show knowledge and systematic understanding of the key features of the current primary curriculum
- • Be able to demonstrate an analytical understanding of the development of the primary curriculum with reference to educational theory and practice
- • Effectively communicate personal perspectives of development of the primary curriculum within the contact of societal and political values
- • Effectively analyse and communicate key features of current and historical philosophical thinking in the field of education within a democratic society
