Assignment requirements and suggestions provided by the teacher

Dear all,

For Assignment 3, I want you to focus your research proposal TOPIC on building a new teaching MODULE and test the EFFECTS of the module using QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL pre and post test design.

So the words EFFECTS and MODULE are COMPULSORY in the proposed topic.

Assignment 3 for my class has nothing to do with your REAL research for Master or PhD program. It is just an exercise for this class.

I give you a simple example to propose topic that uses quasi experimental design and its units.

For example,

I am teaching you GRU 60104 class.

If I make the class GRU 60104 Research Methods and Statistics as a Module, so my research topic:

The EFFECTS of the Critical Research Methods and Statistics MODULE (IV) on the Post-Graduate Students’ Achievement in Research Methods and Statistics (DV) in A Public University in Malaysia.

The units for the MODULE:

Unit 1: Sources of Knowledge

Unit 2: What Is Research?

Unit 3: Smart way to design a research

Unit 4: Research Instruments and Pilot Study

Unit 5: Types of Statistics and Statistical Analyses

Unit 6: Parametric Statistis

Unit 7: Non Parametric Statistics

Unit 8: Reporting your statistical results

Essay writing MUST follow the following format

Chapter One: Introduction (minimum 15 pages)

1.1 Introduction

1.2 Background of the Study

1.3 Statement of the Problem

1.4 Theoretical Framework

(What are the relevant theories used in the study?)

1.5 Conceptual Framework

(Relationship among IV, DV, and moderator variables)

1.6 Purpose and Objectives of the Study

1.7 Research Questions

1.8 Null Hypotheses (based on the relevant Research Questions)

Example:

Ho1: There is no significant difference between the mean scores of the pre test between the experimental and control group.

Ho2: There is no significant difference between the mean scores of the post test between the experimental and control group.

1.9 Significance of the Study

1.10 Limitations of the Study

1.11 Operational Definition

1.12 Summary

Chapter Two: Literature Review (minimum 20 pages)

2.1 Introdution

2.2 Concept of (main construct of your module) eg,     Language learning, music learning, mathematics learning, etc

2.3 Theories related to …

2.4 Models related to …

2.5 The Existing Module related to …

2.5.1 …

2.5.2 …

2.5.3 …

2.6 Past Empirical Related to …

2.7 Summary

Chapter Three: Methodology (Minimum 15 pages)

3.1 Introduction

3.2. Research Design

(Quasi-experimental pre and post-test design)

Experimental group

Control group

3.3 Population and Sample

How many population (N)

How many Respondents (sample) n

How you get the sample size

Sampling frame / Sampling technique

Random sample

Random Assignment to experimental and control groups

3.4 Instrumentation

3.4.1 Pre and post-test (to determine the effect of the module)

3.4.2. Questionnaire (to measure the attitude of the experimental group students regarding the module)

3.4.3 Interview Protocol (to interview the teacher who teach the module (in experimental group) – how she/he thinks about the module)

3.5 Pilot Study

Select pilot sample

To validate the instruments by using experts (odd number) and the target respondents

How To determine the index of reliability of the instruments (eg KR20 / Cronbach Alpha)

3.6 Module Development

3.6.1 You can use one of the development models such as ADDIE model

If you use ADDIE model, there are 5 phases:

A – Needs Analysis

D – Design of the module

D – Development of the module

I – Implementation of the module

E – Evaluation of the module

3.6.2 validation of the module

3.7 Data Analysis

Determine the normality of your data by using Kalmogorov-Smirnoff and Shapiro-Wilk tests

Using descriptive statistics (frequency percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (mainly t-test) to analyse you data. And to test the Null hypotheses.
