Strategic Plan Proposal School Safety Officer
My primary concern as a school safety officer is to ensure the general well-being and safety of the students and other members of staff. It is a fundamental consideration to ensure their security regardless of the challenges. One significant challenge is the rising prevalence of mental health issues among school safety officers (Hadden et al., 2022). I hope that I will never experience the stress and depression that affects my mental health and renders me ineffective in carrying out my duties as a safety officer. However, the barriers to achieving general mental well-being include the fact that work can be mentally draining, and the growing number of students and staff who require security makes my job demanding and, at times, stressful. There are instances of the financial crisis that cause salary delays, which prevents me from meeting my day-to-day needs, creating instances of stress and bringing issues to my mental wellness. As a result, I must devise a strategy to achieve mental well-being.
The strategies include:
- Connecting with others is one of the strategies. Connecting with others helps form good relationships, and good relationships form the foundation of good mental health. Good relationships also foster openness, so people feel free to talk to others about their problems and may find solutions to the problems they face, reducing overthinking and, as a result, stress.
- Exercises that are part of being physically active help with fitness and improve an individual’s health; hence, physical exercises help keep the body in shape and thus reduce stress, boosting mental health.
- Learning a new skill is a good strategy because it keeps me focused on an activity rather than worrying about something else. As a result, the mind focuses on the new skill rather than things that may stress me out, promoting overall good mental health.
