Write a research proposal on how child abuse links to offending in the youth justice system

The Research proposal – 3000 words

You will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • The research proposal should flow naturally from the problems and unanswered questions highlighted in the conclusion to the literature review.
  • It should be clearly structured.
  • The proposal should make clear the aims and objectives of the intended research project and its potential scholarly significance. How would the research, should it be carried out, contribute to knowledge in the subject area, over and above what has been learned from the critical literature review?
  • What is the rationale/justification for the methodological approach you have chosen? What will be your primary data sources? How will you design a study that meets your research aims? What specific methods (e.g. questionnaire survey, in-depth interviews, observation) have you selected, and what is the justification for choosing these?
  • The proposal should demonstrate an awareness and a sensitivity to the practical and ethical considerations necessary when applying these methods to this particular research question (issues to be considered will include sampling, access to participants, data collection methods, and data analysis).
  • There should be a clear identification of research outputs and potential outcomes. You should consider what will be produced if the research were carried out, and what impact it would have? How might the research findings inform policy, instigate change or improve practice etc.?
  • Consideration must be given to the outcomes or impact the research would have for young people.
  • The proposal must demonstrate an awareness of the practical limitations of the research – resource issues, timescale etc. This does not have to be specific to the extent of calculating precise financial costs, but an awareness of the time required to conduct the research and resources such as staff, stationery etc.
