What unique mathematical observations did you encounter during the 16-hour block?
Mathematical Observations

Paper details:

You will have two different observation periods. The first observation period will be a 16-hour block during the day, which should include the time where you are working at your current job. This observation period would entail the time when you awake to the time you go to bed. You are to observe (making both mental and physical notes) anything that you would consider to be mathematical in nature. For example, you come to a red octagon-shaped sign at an intersection. You automatically recognize that it’s a STOP sign, with having to read it. Of course, it is mathematically related to geometry. The second observation period is an 8-hour block, during the day, which is a weekend (or a day where you are not working your current job). Complete the same observations as you did during the 16-hour block from above. *****I am working – I am a math teacher for grades 6-11 from 9am till 6pm Monday -Friday***** Answer the following questions: 1. In no more than two pages, please summarize your first observation. 2. In no more than two pages, please summarize your second observation. 3. What unique mathematical observations did you encounter during the 16-hour block? 4. What unique mathematical observations did you encounter during the 8-hour block? 5. Did you encounter any mathematical observations that could be applied to algebra, geometry, statistics, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, discrete math? If so, list the math topics, and the observation you encountered. 6. During these two observations, in what way(s) have you used math without realizing that you were actually using it? 7. Describe, in detail, at least three ways you can utilize this activity to manage your mathematical skillhkzs, and keep them sharp.
