Main critique

  • Consider what justification the author/s provides for their argument. Has the journal been peer reviewed and how well can we trust what they propose or have concluded?
  • What do their findings mean for the real world?
  • Identify any other journal articles that look at the same area of education/learning. What do these journals propose about the same topic? Do they agree or if not, what do they say differently?
  • Make judgements on the journal
  • What is the author/s trying to achieve and how well have they achieved it within their study?
  • Analyse
  • Evaluate (what is good and what is bad about the study – maybe look at how it was carried out. Was the sample of participants small or too specific? etc)
  • synthesise (bring studies/themes together and make connections)
