In considering healthcare system trade-offs, politics plays a major role. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the current Medicaid system in the United States based on individual state policies is important to the political and legal platforms each state faces. As organizations seek to implement HMIS and IT program development, upgrades, and evaluations the organizations must be capable of separating the IT failures, budget overruns, and exogenous changes in enrollment that affect the healthcare system. In a minimum of 250 words, discuss the following:

Who is responsible on the state political level to propose legislature to overcome healthcare organizations concerns (trade-off) relating to patient enrollment and budget overruns?
What is your state’s responsibility in preparation for healthcare change such as the ACA?
How do healthcare leader’s best integrate pre-existing conditions and long-term illness?

Discuss two burdens the Sandwich Generation faces on a daily basis.

“Stuck in the Middle” of adulthood…
A large portion of middle aged adults (defined as ages 40-65 in the psychological sciences) find themselves “sandwiched” as some point in this phase of their lives. Read about the “Sandwich Generation” here —> Pew Research Center Links to an external site. <— and consider the following:

Discuss two burdens the Sandwich Generation faces on a daily basis.
As the Baby Boomer generation (birth years: 1944-1964) ages and fills less of the “sandwich” (as many of their own parents have already passed away and their children are now grown), what unique challenges or benefits do you predict may impact the growing numbers of Generations Xers (birth years: 1965-1979) and Millenials (birth years: 1980-1997) who occupy this space?
Take a moment to consider the mental health of this age group. Middle aged adults are diagnosed more so than any other age group with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Share a mental health resource (website, hotline, local facility, etc.) that can offer assistance to those in need.

Discuss ideas of family, identity, displacement and political issues that have shaped Takei and the United States from the 1940s to the present day

After reading the graphic novel, They Called Us Enemy, answer the following questions using the same format and guidelines as the VOF writing assignments. You do not need to use anything but your book and maybe the Give Me Liberty textbook. I would recommend writing this without your internet browser open. And, of course, make sure everything is in your own words!
Paragraph 1: We all seem to spend a lot of time discussing WWII, but often to not go into as much depth when discussing internment. Discuss the way Japanese internment was taught prior to college (or how it wasn’t). Why do you think the topic is often brushed over? What are two main facts that you learned from the Takei book the were shocking, interesting, maddening, etc.?
Paragraph 2: Discuss ideas of family, identity, displacement and political issues that have shaped Takei and the United States from the 1940s to the present day. Bring in one specific quote from the book to support your ideas.
Paragraph 3: George Takei experienced internment as a small child. How was his experience different from his parent’s experience? Do you think hearing his story, from a child’s perspective, rather than his parent’s, from an adult’s perspective, was more or less beneficial to the narrative?
Paragraph 4: Readers see Takei deal with the trauma of the camps (. He argues with his father and questions the choices his father made during that time. What do you make of the argument? Is George Takei’s argument fair? Discuss why his father might think the way he did (different generational outlook).

The high rates of malpractice suits raise the question, Should healthcare professionals not be allowed to make any mistakes?& Consider the following case. In your estimation, is failing to pursue further testing simply a mistake?

The high rates of malpractice suits raise the question, “Should healthcare professionals not be allowed to make any mistakes?” Consider the following case. In your estimation, is failing to pursue further testing simply a mistake? Consider this from the point of view of the risk manager and of the patient’s spouse.
A 38-year-old female was admitted to the emergency room of Goodcare Hospital with symptoms that suggested a gastrointestinal problem. The attending physician performed all the routine tests, and the results were normal. During the time the patient was in the ER, she had uncontrolled diarrhea and grew weaker. The medication given did not help. The patient died, and the autopsy revealed that she was suffering from giardiasis, an intestinal parasitic infection. This infection is not detected by routine parasitic testing. If detected, the infection can be effectively treated with antibiotics. In this case, if the patient had been correctly diagnosed, she would likely have recovered quickly and lived. The attending physician was sued for negligence for failing to diagnose the infection. A jury awarded the woman’s husband $725,000.
